Now that I've slept on it, I think there are some good take-aways from last night. Hernandez, Heilman & Loopy continued to look good, and Wright finally got moved up in the order.
Miraculously, the daily rags seem to have learned their lesson about our pen. All the papers say something to the effect of "Bell's been great this year but a few bloop singles and he gets another loss" and I haven't seen any calls for "we need to upgrade the pen NOW!" but some of that might have to do with the pending Graves acquisition.
Our offense needs to get healthy. Cam, Floyd & Beltran all playing beat up with Piazza & Mientkiewicz not available off the bench is brutal. Where was Diaz last night, anyway?
In one of the papers, Willie was quoted as saying that a bad outing by Ishii wouldn't get him moved to the pen, which I personally think is unfortunate, although with Glavine & Zambano doing as well as they have, our SP isn't as much of a problem as our offense right now.
One of the other rags dissed on Matsu--again--basically saying that he must suck, since he keeps getting booed. WTF?
| ]The rest of the shine on the six-hit Met offense last night was on Kaz Matsui's shoes, which left some polish on a ball that hit him in the foot to start a tying rally in the eighth. That clue, found by umpire Gerry Davis, seems to the only one Matsui has as he continues to get booed mercilessly, not that he is the only problem. |
