You mean Graves, don't you?

That DeJean reference had me confused for about 15 seconds.

Me too (I don't feel like such a dork now for thinking, "Wha...?").

They're showing Three Stooges on WB11 but with silly color graphics and
set ups and explanations before rolling them. Do The Stooges really need
to be set up for people with bells and whistles? I don't think so.

Rain delay ovah!

Benson tries to keep the losing streak to three and gets Erstad with a grounder to Matsui on his second pitch.

Angels take a 1-0 lead on a nice double-play 6-6-6.

There're too many 6's on this team.

Edgy DC
Jun 11 2005 10:04 PM

InJails up 2-1 in the top of the sixth.

Rotblatt
Jun 11 2005 10:15 PM

Piazza stranded at second after a leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth.

Floyd K's, trying to hit a home run with 2 strikes, Wright pops out to left on a very hittable pitch and Woody grounds out to short.

We gotta get to Washburn in the seventh, since coming back against this pen is gonna be tough.

Jun 11 2005 10:21 PM

Woo-Hoo! Beltran makes an incredible catch that prevents a 2-run homer and keeps the Mets in the game!

Rotblatt
Jun 11 2005 10:24 PM

Beltran with a phenomanal leaping catch in dead center field to rob Molina of a home run and end the inning!

He basically had to run back all the way to the wall and without pause, lept to bring the ball back from over the fence. Nice, nice play.

Our defense and pitching have been good, but we need a run or two, boys . . .

Edgy DC
Jun 11 2005 10:26 PM

Pulls it back on a sno-cone. Nice.

The home plate umpire had some equipment problems and had to switch to an Angel helmet. Call UniWatch.

Edgy DC
Jun 11 2005 10:41 PM

Still 2-1 in the eight. Heilman on and looks good in retiring the side in the eighth.

Mets in pinnies and blue caps. Good day for the UMDB.

Speaking of caps, get your rally caps on. We go to the bottom of the eighth. Or, as the Angel announcer calls it, the ninth. Huh?

Edgy DC
Jun 11 2005 10:54 PM

Shields gets the Mets in order in the eighth, to go with two in the seventh. Good job by him.

Rotblatt
Jun 11 2005 10:55 PM

Our offense is terrible right now.

Ugh.

Rotblatt
Jun 11 2005 10:58 PM

Heilman looks pretty good, though.

Okay, boys, let's tie it up. Wright, pinch hitter for Woody (wouldn't Daubach instead of Mientkiewicz be nice right there?), then Matsui coming up.

Edgy DC
Jun 11 2005 11:01 PM

Wright Ks.

Jun 11 2005 11:04 PM

Jun 11 2005 11:04 PM

Holy crap!

Pinch-hit INSIDE THE PARK HOMERUN BY MARLON ANDERSON!

BLOWING A BUBBLE AROUND SECOND!

That was unfuckingbelievable!!!!

Lets Go Mets!!

abogdan
Jun 11 2005 11:06 PM

Do you get Kapows for inside the parkers? That was incredible.

Flyball to right center. Vlad and Finley both go for it, it hits off Finley's leg to go into right field. Anderson just beats out the throw to the plate.

Molina v.2 is banged up at catcher. Don't know who LAAA's emergency catcher would be if he has to come out.

OK - I have to say this. I hate that fucking nickname. It's like he's being turned into a eunich every time that name is said...

Rotblatt
Jun 11 2005 11:11 PM

There's no way in the world that Dougie went around on that pitch.

Terrible call. Should've at least asked the third base ump.

ScarletKnight41
Jun 11 2005 11:17 PM

Chill man - it's just one nickname among many.

Damn - Kennedy steals second with one out :(

Rotblatt
Jun 11 2005 11:25 PM

God damn it.

Dougie boots a dribbler then loopy gives up a hard single past Wright.

We suck.

Frayed Knot
Jun 11 2005 11:41 PM

And now that Cammy got on base by not bunting ... I don't want Beltran to FARGIN' BUNT EITHER!!!

Hit one into the gap and let's go home.

Edgy DC
Jun 11 2005 11:42 PM

First and second guys reach.

Third guy tries to bunt.

Eventually fans on a splitter.

But he's a Mets fan - I'm sure he's happy to be wrong in this case!

that. was. awesome.

Rotblatt
Jun 11 2005 11:54 PM

Did I mention that we suck?

Piazza watched Beltran K on change ups and saw three of his own before swinging and missing yet again.

They just needed to fucking make contact in those situations

And now Floyd tries to hit a home run on the first pitch.

We need a single, guys.

The first sentence was cued up as the inning began. I wrote the next 4 paragraphs after Piazza & Beltran K'ed.

I never posted, hoping against hope that I'd be able to write what I'm writing now: METS WIN

Cliff with a walk-off line drive home run to right center

Jun 11 2005 11:54 PM

WOW....that was one hell of a game...go Cliff go

Edgy DC
Jun 11 2005 11:54 PM

Not for nothing, but this was a great game no matter where Cliff's ball landed.

The Angels used three catchers. I can't recall the last time I saw a manager do that.

"That was sweet."

Epic ballgame.

Jun 12 2005 12:08 AM

Where does this game rank in the "game of the year" poll?, it had everything, great pitching, an inside the park homer, great catch by Beltran and the great Cliff Floyd, for me that is the game of the year so far.

Rotblatt
Jun 12 2005 12:14 AM

Some thoughts: I'm really glad we didn't see Graves in the game at all. That makes me hope even more that Willie will make him prove himself before using him in high-leverage situations.

Heilman & Loopy are pretty darn good.

Floyd is my hero.

Piazza should not be benched against lefties.

Beltran is officially having a dissapointing season. His OPS is, I believe, now below .800. His SLG is way down and he's walking about half as much as he did last year.

Something's not right with Beltran. Whatever it is, he needs to get straightened out.

Matsui could hit for the cycle and make 3 consecutive run-saving plays at second and still be booed upon K'ing in his final at bat.

Edgy DC
Jun 12 2005 12:16 AM

Beltran got a homer tonight.

He got it from the other side of the fence and pulled it back.

Well his legs are kinda fucked, he's at about 80% health...not an excuse but it's the onethe Mets are pushing.

Jun 12 2005 12:22 AM

best regular season game ever, makes me very mad that i chose to work today over going to the game, but hey at least i saw it.

metirish
Jun 12 2005 12:28 AM

Did you hear gary Cohen's call on the inside the park homer?, it was freaking unreal, one of the great calls, and Howie Rose's call on Floyd's homer was a delight...

Rotblatt
Jun 12 2005 12:35 AM

True enough, Irish & Edgy, but this is nowhere near the level of offense we expected from him. His stats all year--even when healthy--have been below average for him. OPS's the last three years: .847, .911, .915. The .800 or so he's at now isn't cutting it.

Don't get me wrong, he's been very consistent for us and I still like the signing and think he's a great player, but if he keeps this up, he'll have been a disspointment for us this season.

Shea's not helping him at all--he's got some serious H/A splits--but he didn't hit well away from home last year either and still managed to put up some nice overall numbers.

metirish
Jun 12 2005 12:39 AM

I get what you are saying Rotblatt, he has been not what I expected, but I think his health is a major factor, not sure but I think his numbers with RISP are some of the best on the team...

Marlon Anderson is on the FAN, Tony Paige just played him Gary Cohen's call on his inside the park home run, Anderson was so happy he asked ofr a copy...Cohen is the best without a doubt.

Damn, I wish I had turned on the radio. My girlfriend was watching the game with me in the early going and doesn't like listening to one while watching the other, something which I do when I'm watching by myself.

Maybe they'll replay it before today's game . . .

TheOldMole

I turned on the game in the car, driving home, just in time to hear Gary Cohen's call. And got home in time to watch Cliffie's HR.
