1-0 Pedro. :D

Oh sheesh! Piazza struck out looking on a close pitch (the replay shows that it hit the corner of the plate), and he kept jawing about it from the dugout, so he gets tossed from the game. Castro is in the game.

Mr. Wright gets rung up on strikes to end the inning. 1-0 Mets after one.

One of these days we gotta start turning innings like these into more than one freakin' run. -- doubles off the wall, singles, wild-pitches, walks ... and only a one-spot to show for it.
We did this against Houston last week too and never recovered.

That pitch was likely a strike - but the ump went out of his way to find himself a fight there.

Not like Piazza to get hmself tossed like that on a judgment call.

Hopefully it lights a fire under him. Anyhow, Pedro gets his personal catcher.

Despite some confusion over whether Reyes or Cairo should catch the infield popup for the final out of the inning, the ball gets caught and the inning ends.

He used his transporation logistics degree to tell Piazza to hit the road.

"Despite some confusion over whether Reyes or Cairo should catch the infield popup for the final out of the inning, the ball gets caught and the inning ends."

And - just to point out how pre-judgements enter into things sometimes - can you imagine the raking-over-the-coals Matsui would get from fans for daring to bump into Reyes while taking his pop-up?

The mind does boggle over that one Frayed.

Mr. Wright makes a nice throw to Minty for the first out of the inning.

Pedro was getting jobbed on some calls earlier, probably adding to Piazza's disgust.

Good call by Cooper on Wright.

It's Pedro's world, the rest of us are just living in it.

The Scoscia/Molina contingent are making a habit this weekend of arguing home plate calls they have no hope of winning.
Nice slide by Wright.

There is cause for celebration - this is the second game in a row with the pinstripes - I can't remember the last time that happened.

Pedro works his way out after the Angels score twice to tie things.

Did Cairo have a chance to grab that single?

Soething to ponder while we break out the whuppin sticks and get him a W.

Dammit Jose.

This will be Pedro's last frame. He needs to sack up and finish these guys.

Motherfucker.

Wright with an error and the go-ahead run scores.

Gonna take another miracle to win this one.

sigh.

Fuck Matsui.

FUUUCK, Reyes. ARGH.

This is a disappointing homestand.

I can't decide if our true colors are coming out or if we're just banged up.

Speaking of injuries, Willie should absolutely have subbed Diaz in for Cameron right after Cameron got injured. Why the hell is Diaz on our team if we're not going to play him? Subbing for a guy who can't swing the bat would seem to make some sense, wouldn't it?

Piazza getting thrown out in the first inning hurts too. Not only did it take a much-needed bat out of our lineup, I swear to god it also predisposed the umps to squeeze us. There's no way Wright went around in his at bat right after Piazza's, and despite what seemed to be a huge strike zone for the Angels, Petey kept not gettng calls.

If we can't get on track against Oakland and Seattle, we're going to be in serious serious trouble . . .

Piazza was cursing up a storm on the post-game talking about Cooper, hey Mike swing the fucking bat , tough pitch to take...6/6 on this homestand, not good.

West Coast trips scare me; especially with this team not hitting. Ugly last couple of games.

KB and I went today. GCT was all abuzz with teenagers in their red white
and blue going to I'm guessing the Puerto Rican Day parade. (I don't fol-
low city current events much). A couple of them were less fun on the re-
turn trip but St. Patrick's Day payback from when I was that age is a bitch.

I dunno, looking at my scorecard I'm thinking I almost knew this game was
going to suck in the first inning with a bunch of K's mixed in with wild pitches
and that bad throw to Lackey on a pick off move and only a run to show for
it. Three backward K's in the seventh just blew.

How do you score when Molina hits the ball fair on a scorecard and is out
running into the ball? We had a five guy discussion on this and nothing. I
put 1-3 even though that ain't what happened and a note to ask the CPF.

Haven't seen Piazza so whack since that spring training episode with I
forget who. Also written on scorecard notes, guy seven rows ahead of us
in the middle of the eighth has his buddy fill a size twelve boat shoe full of
beer and guns it for applause. Then throws the shoe a couple of seats
over to someone who just slipped it back on like this is a common thing.
Might have been the highlight of the game.

"How do you score when Molina hits the ball fair on a scorecard and is out running into the ball?"

Unassisted putout to the closest fielder - in this case the catcher.
A similar grounder hitting the runner going from 1st would result in a PO to either #3 or #4; those are more common.

Mota, of course.

2U would then be the syntax I use. Kinda still needs a footnote if you want
to know what happened a week from now. Thanks, I know where to ask.

WYSIWYG

A few weeks ago we were 3rd in runs scored in the NL.

We're now 9th.

Tuesday: 3 runs
Wednesday 1 run
Thursday 1 run
Friday 2 runs
Saturday 5 runs (2 in 9IP)
Sunday 3 runs

Not good.

I was at the game with the littlest sharpie and 6 of his teammates and about 500 other kids and youth baseball coaches from Brooklyn. We stood around for about an hour in the player's parking lot ("don't lean against the players cars") and it was hot. Saw Kaz Ishii arrive about 45 minutes before game time. Kids sat on the base of the home run apple. Finally they let us on the field to stand there while someone sang the Star Spangled Banner. We were in the area in front of the Mets bullpen. Several of us went right up to the plexiglass to watch Pedro warm up. Kids yelled out to him. They chased us back to the front of the warning track. Finally the door opened and Pedro walked out into the midst of the kids with Rick Peterson. It was a long time of standing around for not much fun but the Pedro part was worth it.
