What Do You Like About the New Board?
Elster88 Jun 08 2005 05:34 PM |
I figured this would be a refreshing change from ezboard/new board complaints.

I like how all of someone's posts are marked with their current posting level and how many posts they've posted.
|
ScarletKnight41 Jun 08 2005 06:01 PM |
I like that I don't have to physically hit a button to mark a thread as read - it does so automatically. Therefore, on the days that I'm busy, skimming the threads is much, much easier.

I find the contrasts easier on the eyes. I don't mean from a taste point of

Although I occasionally use emoticons, I wouldn't object if they were disabled. I could live with that if it would make the place more palatable to other people.

I'll put it to the voters to decide the fate of the little critters. I particularly

This board loads a lot faster for me, is easier to read (my eyes are bad too) and peruse.
|
metirish Jun 08 2005 10:51 PM |
Well I'm starting to like it a lot more now that things are starting to look more like the old place, kudos to all that worked hard on this, to that end I would also like to thank Yancy for working hard to get the PoTG threads going again.

Y'see now that's the part I don't like. I prefer that your first post remains your first post, and the avatar, sig line, player posting level and whatnot remains as they were at the time. Much better sense of history and growth that way.
|
Willets Point Jun 08 2005 11:19 PM |
Agreed. As I posted in a thread now deleted, the fact that you're always the same image and posting level feels Orwellian to me.
|
SwitchHitter Jun 09 2005 12:02 AM |
Well, it's like this, to my mind, anyway. We lose the sacred posts (and there were some fine ones; heck people with many-digit posting levels were calling mine the Best.Seaver.Post.Ever and I'd thought about going around and trying to find just sacred posts but hadn'd figured out a good strategy...but I digresss) like I said, we lose the sacred posts and other historic posts of note.

There is also a place at the bottom of the page that says "mark all forums read" that is either new or I overlooked before. I like that, because I don't always read every topic, so it was staying beige

I like that you can click the little box and be taken to the first new post in a thread.
|
Willets Point Jun 09 2005 09:46 AM |
I like that so far I have no archiving duties and that I don't have to spend all that time on polls. It makes my lazy ass happy.
|
Willets Point Jun 09 2005 12:07 PM |
One good thing about any changes to your image and signature being made universally to all the posts you've ever made is that it eliminates the need to test such things since any goofs one might make will be overwritten anyhow.
|
MFS62 Jun 09 2005 12:49 PM |
Much easier on these tired old eyes.
|
Edgy DC Jun 09 2005 01:07 PM |
Really? I find that the font crushes together too much.
|
MFS62 Jun 09 2005 01:38 PM |
I wear slightly tinted glasses, and the old color scheme was very rough on my eyes.
|
KC Jun 09 2005 02:11 PM |
We can change the font.
|
Yancy Street Gang Jun 09 2005 02:34 PM |
It may be kinda dull, but a Courier font would be easy to read. The letters wouldn't jam together.
|
KC Jun 09 2005 02:37 PM |
The font tag is on the hot list, I don't think courier is on the hot font list.
|
Edgy DC Jun 09 2005 03:18 PM |
It'll probably turn out to be (1) something stupidly easy like 11-point verdana and (2) the same thing as here.
|
MFS62 Jun 09 2005 03:42 PM |
Oh, and one negative.
|
Willets Point Jun 09 2005 03:53 PM |
That's a negative? What, you don't like toast?
|
MFS62 Jun 09 2005 04:22 PM |
ARGHHHHH!
|
Rockin' Doc Jun 09 2005 07:40 PM |
I like this isn't EZBoard. This new board seems to run faster and more reliably than the old CPF at EzBoard.
|
cooby Jun 11 2005 03:58 PM |
Things look really nice!
|
ScarletKnight41 Jun 11 2005 04:09 PM |
I like that this board doesn't log you out on an annoyingly irregular basis the way that ezBoard does.
|
metirish Jun 11 2005 04:23 PM |
Great to see the banners back up, good job.

Thanks. The top layout assumes that in this day and age everyone is using
|
Frayed Knot Jun 11 2005 06:47 PM |
It's not the resolution that's the problem but the width of the banners collectively which stretches out everything beyond the limits of smaller monitors.
|
KC Jun 11 2005 07:51 PM |
1024 pixels is 1024 pixels regardless of monitor size. It looks ok in AOL,

Well, I just changed my configuration to 800x600, and it just kicked the Shea photo to the next line - I'm not getting any scrolling back and forth.
|
KC Jun 11 2005 07:58 PM |
Me too, gmta.
|
Frayed Knot Jun 11 2005 11:47 PM |
OK, so how does one "change the configuration"?
|
KC Jun 12 2005 09:18 AM |
I got rid of the images for today. For some reason, the forum description got

I have my monitor set to 1024x768, and I use Mozilla Firefox as my main browser. There is a special add on to firefox called the web developers tool, that lets me change the browser window from full screen to 800x600 with one click. This is especially useful when designing web pages. You can change your screen area in Windows like this: On the desktop, right click, and click on "properties" in the menu. In the Display properties window, click on the "settings" tab There is a section called "screen area" with a slider that allows you to change how much area you can see on your screen. Most smaller monitors (15" and smaller) are set to 800x600 - the new systems that come packaged with larger (17"+) monitors are usually set to 1024x768

What do I like about the board?

ScarletKnight41 Jun 13 2005 04:16 PM |
When I'm in a hurry, scanning this board is MUCH faster!
