I JUST saw ND about a week ago. . .so I wasn't in on the discussion. I wasn't particularly bowled over by it, but I imagine it would be one of those movies I would appreciate more if I saw it again. But I definitely see the appeal of it. . .

I got the sense that the training was more for him to become aware of his surroundings and watch for surprises. And to overcome his inner demons, of course...

I'm really glad somebody wants to honor the the real spirit of the Batman story, and it seems to have a lot of elements of the graphic novel Batman: Year One. That lack of respect undid Burton's movies (and Schumacher's, of course) in a big way for me. All style and none of the substance. Where's Batman the code hero?

yes, but a little of that goes a long way. The first few times he appears to apprehend henchman, it was fine. But when the big extended fight scenes occur later on, it should have been taken up a notch and delivered in a bigger way.

The more I see Lost in Translation, the more I appreciate it. I have come to really enjoy the depiction of the close yet platonic relationship between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. It was beautifully directed and subtly acted, portraying intense emotion within the boundaries of a nontraditional friendship.

Commotion on 33rd street at lunch today. Police barricades, tons of people with cameras, a pathetic fat guy wearing an NBA jersey and holding a copy of Rolling Stone and a pen pushed away from the crowd calling his pusher a "faggot," then shoving past a bystander (me) on the sidewalk to get a better angle:

D-Dad accompanied our 15-year-old daughter and her friends to the IMAX on Sunday to see Batman - they loved the experience of seeing it in that format.
