That's incredible.

Many kudos to you Edgy.

How you have the time to deal with us and Crane Pool and put out an award-winning publication is amazing.

Great accomplishment, congrats.

Exactly what I was thinking!

Congrats, Edgy!

In a just world, I should be accepting an outstanding publication award on behalf of the old Crane Pool at the EeeZees.

Yes, you should, buddy, you gave it your all.

Do you think this would be a good magazine for an aspiring elementary school teacher?

Email me an address (If you dare!) and I'll send some comp copies.

For heavens sakes, you HAVE my address and you haven't hatcheted me yet. But I'll send it again.

Thanks! :)

Woo-hoo!

Pool party at cooby's house to celebrate Edgy's Major Award.

Does it look like this, Edge?

Hey! Fragile! Must be Italian!

(Note: I would think that the "Peoriodical" of the year would be given to the best resident of Peoria. But I could be wrong.)

Pool party at cooby's house to celebrate Edgy's Major Award

That is very do-able. I still have the dais leftover from my reception when the Mets left Al Leiter go, so Edgy could do his speech for us.

I figure I could come up with some sort of display area for copies of his publication.

Food, of course...

Bring your suits!

Congratulations, I didn't open this forum today. Did you have to wear a tux?

Those are some pretty big pot plants on that first cover.

it was black tie optional. I went business casual. It's scorching here in DC and I was coming from work

Nonetheless, I was embarassed that I was underdressed. It's funny. When I got there, the attractive young woman at the desk said, "Wait here, Stacey needs to talk to you."

And I think, "Oh, OK. 'Stacey' needs to chat. I'll just chill."

She motions to another attractive young woman across the room, and I think, that must be "Stacey.' "Hello, Edgy," she says, "I'm really glad you're here. I'm Margo, Stacey wanted me to tell you to wait because she wants to talk to you."

And that's how it went.

"I'm Bridget, Stacey wants to talk to you."

"I'm Becky. Wait for Stacey."

"Me llama Luz. Espera un momento, por favor. Anastasia se necessita."

So I'm feeling like the BMoC, all these young women fussing over my very presence, but also feeling rather dorky in my brown jacket. (My tie was nice*.) It turns out that, because our magazine had won (without me in attendance) the bestest award last year -- the coveted Golden Lamp award -- the organization wanted me to present the award to this year's winner, and it was Stacey's** job to walk me through my presentaton. Nobody had told me of this. The Association president and board chair did all the presentations, except the last four, the Golden Lamps.

My presentation was to be the last one.

So the very nice Stacey is showing me the ropes -- you'll be sitting here, expect your name to be called at such and such a time, here's the text you're going to read, blah blah blah. Well, naturally, it's hard to enjoy your dinner waiting for this unexpected moment, but, after I won, I was feeling cool, and, you know, nobody there knew me, and they were all unlikely to see me again, so I thought I'd freak Stacey out and go off script with a few cracks. I opened with Widey's Gilbert Gottfried joke.

Nah, I kicked ass.

The best part was that the winner of the Golden Lamp award for periodicals this year was the big budget National Geographic Explorer!, who had been nominated the previous year against us. As I congratualted the woman, I also reminded her that, you know, we beat them head-to-head last year, and their win this year was largely due to the stupid rules preventing us from entering the year after we had already won.

I'm all class.

Did you start with "Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking...?"

Very nice. Congratulations.

By the way, your version of 'business casual' includes a jacket and tie? That's formal in my office. Business casual is khakis and a golf shirt. Casual is jeans and a t-shirt. Dress-down is best left to the imagination.

Congratulations, Edgy! Great accomplishment to be recognised for a job well done by your peers.

While your showing pictures of the ladies, do you have one of Stacy's mom? I hear she's got it goin' on.
