Yancy and Schaeffer PotG

Yancy, now that you have admin' powers do you still need the Squid move PotG threads that you've closed? Squid will be happy to accomodate whether you prefer to move them yourself or let the Squid do it.

As I re-open the threads to save them at the old CPF, It's striking me that closing isn't really necessary. If you record the votes as of a certain post, and announce the results, why is it necessary to end the conversation? It's not like anybody's ever contested a vote.

You have to close the voting at some point, though, or else people could go back and add votes, which means someone would have to go back to the monthly totals, and that would just change everything. Not worth it, methinks. Might as well just close 'em and make it official.

If the final tally is annouced in the thread by Yancy (or whoever) any changes would be irrelevant. If somebody insists that the final total doesn't refect their vote, gently point out that there is a stamp noting that their post was changed at an hour subsequent to the official closing of the vote.

Do you mean that locking the threads is unnecessary? That, I agree with, for the reasons you stated. I think I confused "closing" and "not allowing anyone else to post at all."

You're right; it's probably not necessary to lock the threads.
