Jacobs at 1B? No kidding? Wow, and usually Willie takes a while to warm up to new guys no matter what they do.

I really, really like this!!! Jacobs getting the nod is beautiful. Kind of shows that we're willing to give the young guys a shot, even if they were forced into it via two injuries.

The Internet believes Willie doesn't like Jacobs.

Clifford with a 2-run double. Mets lead 2-0. Early.

Be sure to cast your vote for Cliff Floyd as NL Comeback player.

click/click

he's got my vote.

I like Jacobs bein in there too.
Like that Francoeur guy Atlanta brought up, and he's been hitting up a storm.
Jacobs is new, young and hungry.
We need some kind of spark.
Maybe he can provide it.

After a lead off walk to Counsell, Glavine retires Clayton, Gonzalez, and Clark in order.

2-0 Mets after one.

Jacobs grounds out. Get rid of this clown.

Mets go 1-2 and 3 in the second.

LMAO

Glavine gets through the second allowing only a single. Gets Snyder for the third out, so the pitcher Webb will lead off the third for the Diamondbacks.

Zvon
Aug 22 2005 10:18 PM

Braves are up 4-2 in the 9th.
No score yet in the Asstros or Phils games, both in the 1st.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 22 2005 10:26 PM

Beltran draws a 2 out walk, then steals second.

Cliff y draws a walk to put men at first and second with Wright comming to the plate.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 22 2005 10:29 PM

Wild pitch moves Beltran to third. Wright grounds out with men at the corners ann the Mets fail to score.

Mets 2 Snakes 0 going to the bottom of the third.

Aug 22 2005 10:32 PM

Atlanta wins.
2 two run homers by Chipper (Loves Shea/Kills Mets) Jones
Hudson pitches a complete game,allowing 7 hits.

Good game so far, before the game FSNY had Fran's "Halls of Fame" with Jennie Finch, I never tire of watching it, Healy at his best.

this post was brought to yoy by LEVITRA.

Glavine has thrown 61 pitches thru 4.
Allowed 1 hit with 3Ks.

yea, another quality start. He seems to have found a groove, like he did last year mid season.

Houston is down 2 runs to the Pods after 3.
Phils down 4 runs to the Giants in the 3rd.

Yep , Glavine seems to be a different pitcher than before, some different looks and pitches.

Gwreck

End of the 6th and it's now 14 in a row set down by Glavine.

A good pitcher, as he gets on in yrs, adjusts to what his bag of tricks has left. Glavine is a smart pitcher. When hes goin well, hes a joy to watch.

When hes not (which has been alot since we aquired him) I scream for his head.

He used to be a Brave.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 22 2005 11:26 PM

Odd, but Glavine's improved in the second half this year, after 3 years straight with worse 2nd halves than first halves.

seawolf17
Aug 22 2005 11:28 PM

Tom Glavine, your 2005 NL Cy Young winner.

Zvon
Aug 22 2005 11:29 PM

Ruff inning. Could have been worse. 3 hits, 1 run.
Glavines up to 98 pitches thrown.

He did get a fastball (to green) up to 88 mph this last inning.

Time for the bullpen to do their job.

Zvon
Aug 22 2005 11:36 PM

looks like Willies gonna stick with him, huh?
No one even gettin warm?

I still don't like Diaz, but I like insurance runs.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 22 2005 11:46 PM

You know it's a good night when Diaz homers -- and doesn't get a single fly ball hit to him. Big xtra run there.

Zvon
Aug 22 2005 11:47 PM

kool. Diaz with daShmack. Thats big.

So does Glavine start the 9th??

metirish
Aug 22 2005 11:48 PM

And he ran the bases as Fran noted at a nice clip, Willie had a chat with him before the game, no more trotting was the message. Jacobs hit a screamer to 2nd, Glavine hitting, I like it.

Zvon

okay. Time to hold my breath. Loopers in.

Thats that wacky catch Cameron made earlier this season, when he was floppin around in right like a fish out of water and the ball fell in his glove. that & wrights barehander are the two top fielding plays of the yr, IMO.

Very nice game by old guy Glavine. Big HRs by young guys Reyes & Diaz.

Great game from Glavine, sometimes the stats don't lie, he pitches great at the Bob, I'm hoping Jacob stays up, chances are he won't though.

I am surprised randolf started him.
And I will be surprised if he stays up.

They did run Trachsel thru waivers to see if they could get a bite.
And the next move should be to make room for him.
How Zambrano pitches next is key as to what happens.
Even tho i think he's the weakest link, i hope he does well, and I hope he makes it a difficult decision as to what the Mets do next.

Aug 23 2005 12:17 AM

yep, it must be true though, players talk all the time about cahnfidence.

I read in this morning's Daily News early edition that Jacobs is from the West Coast and many of his friends and family went to the game. It was nice of Willie to give him a start. I'm hoping this wasn't another Mike Glavine kiss-and-good bye start, though.

I didn't see the game. How did Jacobs look at the plate/ in the field? I know he didn't get a hit, but did it look like he was taking good cuts?
Was the gold glove comment above funny(because he made a good play), or sarcastic(because he butchered something)?

Later

seawolf17
Aug 23 2005 12:24 PM

He made a couple of nice plays; one on a great dive down the line by Wright early, then a nice grab on the big DP later.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 23 2005 12:25 PM

Webb kept Jacobs on the ground in his ABs (as he did with almost all the Met hitters), but in his last turn (against Worrell?) he hit it hard. More impressive was his play at first base where his scooping of a couple low tricky throws had to have made a favorable impression.

Well, now we know why Glavine likes the BOB so much.
(From the ESPN game recap)

]Glavine said the dirt path between the mound and home plate [at Bank One Ballpark] helps him focus.

"[It] kind of locks me in, makes me feel good about my target and where I'm trying to go and where I'm trying to step with my pitches," Glavine said. "It just kind of gives you a little sense of tunnel vision."

I hope our grounds crew is listening.
