Jacobs again, huh? He's getting good mileage from that three-run homer. If he had hit an infield popup, that might have been the last we'd see of him for 2005.

I think you should keep starting 'em till we lose one.

Funny how managers tend to prefer homers to infield popups.

His glove at first has been quite impressive, soft hands as Fran would say.

I think they moved back the start time to accomadate Wednesday Night Baseball on ESPN. Though on my DISH network it's on ESPN2A. At least it better be, now they're saying Houston/San Diego is next.

HAIL, we have had a few this week, very cool.

HAIL!!!!

Hey, no worries... I left the Seaver Post up for perhaps 2 days because maybe one person hailed it...

Willets Point Aug 24 2005 10:17 PM |
I just have to say that like the Mets, our crop of rookies - Beenso, Valadius, Doc Tee, & Zvon - have been making great contributions to the Crane Pool team, helping out especially in the absence of grizzled veterans like Edgy DC.
|
Valadius Aug 24 2005 10:18 PM |
Thanks... I appreciate it immensely. I enjoy being here and contributing.

Holy shit. I love this kid.

martin Aug 24 2005 10:39 PM |
it really is a powerful looking swing that kid has. smooth and big. before the season i figured it would be ok to not have a big power guy at 1b. but i think i may have been wrong. now i think 1b is a position where you really shouldnt waste time with a guy who isnt gonna bash the ball.

How enjoyable is Mike Jacobs?
|
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2005 10:46 PM |

Zvon Aug 24 2005 10:46 PM |
Jacobs again!

OMG! Two runs score on a double play ball because KazMat kept the rundown going long enough to let them cross the plate before the end of the inning! 5-0 Mets!

2 throws on rundowns D-Backs!

That after the DBaggs had a 90-minute players-only, closed-door meeting. What do you suppose they discussed? "All right fellas, let's go out there and take these guys lightly!"
|
Zvon Aug 24 2005 10:58 PM |
|
That would have been a good pickup 4 ya. I managed to get Pudge Rod and Piazza on my team in both leagues, and I was able to use Piazza at 1st. But I really very rarely have, or used him as catcher as well. Its so hard to fill in for your catcher when he has his off day. Even though PudgeRod was gettin Sundays primarily the 1st half. trying to back up your catchers off day every week will drive you absolutely crazy tho. Im living proof. Ive been trying all season. *Zvon runs across the room and jumps out the window*~~~~~~~~~ (I am thinking of dropping Piazza(DL) now. Probly wont tho. Already brought up that Cubs catcher for the spot.My Met loyalty factor costs me sometimes. But I dont mind. Sometimes Id just rather have players I tend to be watching anyway..Between the two teams I have Reyes,Wright,Piazza, Benson. had Galvine, dropped him be4 the break) Padres take the lead over Houston 2-1 in the 3rd, and have a man on 3rd and 1 out

ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2005 11:00 PM |
Mr. Wright just misses a home run and has to settle for a double. He was overheard muttering to himself, "I'm just as good and as lovable as Mike Jacobs, dammit!"

ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2005 11:04 PM |

It's the Edgy factor, I swear the Mets are hot since Edgy has gone, where is he anyway?, OK I hope.
|
GYC Aug 24 2005 11:07 PM |
Interesting note: 4 of the last 6 outs Ortiz has recorded have come on either a runner being thrown out/caught in a rundown or a sac bunt.

Have a clam chowder for me. Or a Krispy Kreme donut. Best food in the majors! (Oh, and root on the Mets to victory!)

Zvon Aug 24 2005 11:11 PM |

Might be mine too. He looks like he really enjoys himself and he loves the game. All the money they will eventually throw him will be incidental. Hes like a throwback real baseball guy, who is proud to be a student of the game. Very enthuiastic, and he learns. When i saw that play in Philly (and afew others that made me think he was possibly a dunce) with the grounder down the 3rd base line and Bell caught it and Wright didnt even notice and rounded the bag....... well. I think when he does learn his lesson he remembers it. And in that case i dont mind those kind of mistakes. Cuz later I can laugh. Like when Im lookin at the stats around this time a year.

TRIPLE JOSE REYES!!!!
|
GYC Aug 24 2005 11:16 PM |
Another triple for Reyes. Jeez. Mets can't be stopped. We should play our home games here.
|
Elster88 Aug 24 2005 11:16 PM |
Seriously, we're up by seven runs. Let's not slide head first into third and hurt ourselves.
|
ScarletKnight41 Aug 24 2005 11:16 PM |
|
Those are good too. How come they're only on the Left Coast?
|
Rotblatt Aug 24 2005 11:17 PM |
Oh, and I still think Matsui has the talent to be a solid second baseman, but I'm not sure he'll be able to do it here. I don't think he does well with the booing and the pressure.
|
DocTee Aug 24 2005 11:17 PM |

Edgy said he was steppin out 4 afew days. Triple! Now, one of my FFleagues has that stat and one doesnt, but triples are tuff to get. Sometimes you can win that catagory with one 3 bagger! And i think Reyes has me 2 this week already. Ill have to go see.
|
Valadius Aug 24 2005 11:21 PM |
Mets 8, D-Backs 0.
|
Elster88 Aug 24 2005 11:27 PM |
Matsui has played second very smoothly tonight. Double play ends the inning. With the offensive barrage I didn't even notice a very nice outing by Seo.
|
Elster88 Aug 24 2005 11:29 PM |
Easy AFLAC question today: most RBI in a season by a Met leftfielder.
|
Rotblatt Aug 24 2005 11:29 PM |
42 pitches through four innings for Seo.
|
Zvon Aug 24 2005 11:29 PM |
|
Ill tell ya one thing. hes gettin a jam course in adjustment. And to his credit, he doesnt seem phased or effected by the down side of all the negative attention surrounding him. He will be a better player for it, and you may be right, not here. But I was all sour on him off the getgo cuz they messed with reyes trying to make Kaz fit. I didnt like that. i meant to say in the other thread that bret has a point about how some moves are made just because the research and analizing people dictate that it will draw more gate. But Kaz will have a decent MLB career. when his adjustment is complete. The kid does have some pop. Didnt he homer in his 1st met at bat?
|
GYC Aug 24 2005 11:30 PM |
7 straight plate appearances, 7 times on base for Wright.
|
Valadius Aug 24 2005 11:31 PM |
And the good times keep on rolling.
|
metirish Aug 24 2005 11:32 PM |

Johnny Dickshot Aug 24 2005 11:32 PM |
|
metirish Aug 24 2005 11:35 PM |
Johnny that is bloody classic, love it...damn that is great.
|
Valadius Aug 24 2005 11:36 PM |
Actually, he's one of four to hit a home run in his first major league at-bat while a Met. If you wanted it simply first at-bat as a Met, you have the guys who did it a day apart, Mike Bordick and Bubba Trammell.
|
GYC Aug 24 2005 11:36 PM |
|
Yeah, that was great. Man, this board is awesome.
|
Elster88 Aug 24 2005 11:37 PM |
LOL Johnny, but you shouldn't have buried this away in an IGT. Post it somewhere else too in a thread that will stick around a while.

I have to disagree. I just don't think he is a regular player. KazMat with a base hit. Let's leave Cairo on the bench.

Interesting catch by the cameras after Reyes' home run. Willie was asking the other coaches if he hit it on a curve. Willie's got his eye on the ball with this kid, teaching him to hit the breaking stuff and telling him not to try to hit home runs.

Not quite "dead last". Unless the Diamondbacks do a lot of scoring, at the end tonight the Mets are in a three-way tie for third place in the NL East.
|
Valadius Aug 24 2005 11:48 PM |
Up in baseball heaven, Casey Stengel is receiving a resounding "yes" in response to his most famous question as Mets manager.
|
Elster88 Aug 24 2005 11:49 PM |
Before we all have a collective heart attack, let's remember that we're playing the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the starting pitchers the past two games were Claudio Vargas and Russ Ortiz.

GYC Aug 24 2005 11:50 PM |

Woops. Didn't realize we caught up. On a different note, anyone else find it odd that we scored 13 runs without a hit from our 3 or 4 hitters?

Rotblatt Aug 24 2005 11:52 PM |

How do you figure? He's got a good pedigree--first round draft pick with some nice minor league numbers who was never really given a starting job. And this year, his .757 OPS going into tonight's game is enough for 18th in the majors among catchers with over 100 AB. Plus, he's got a cannon for an arm and handles the pitchers well. We could do a lot worse than Castro, IMO . . .
|
Zvon Aug 24 2005 11:52 PM |
|
nite Doc. Rock yo self to sleep dreaming of more Met feet crossing the plate like a rumba line. (like that Bugs Bunny cartoon, lmao)
|
Elster88 Aug 24 2005 11:54 PM |

Well, you said it right there. 18th in the majors is not the pedigree of a Met catcher. You are right though, we could do a lot worse. I just hope we can do better.
|
Elster88 Aug 24 2005 11:55 PM |
BTW, this is a hell of an IGT. It's going to make a good re-read tomorrow. Keep it up, I gotta get some sleep too. I've been dragging it during the day with the West Coast games.

Gary and Howie have been wondering for several innings why no mets player has not been thrown at yet, now they are not condoning it but they are questioning the balls of the D-Back pitchers and the coaches...
|
Centerfield Aug 25 2005 12:27 AM |
Wow. I think Willie just told Seo to take a knee the rest of the way.
|
Rotblatt Aug 25 2005 12:30 AM |
Thanks, Warren. This has been a great thread Hot damn but I'm giddy tonight. I have a sinking sense that something horrible is about to happen, though . . .

GYC Aug 25 2005 12:36 AM |

We were upstairs, it was 8-0, and D-Dad really wanted to go to sleep. And I whined to him, "But the Mets haven't scored double digits yet!" As if on cue there was the 2-RBI double, and I caught up on the rest of the action via this thread.
|
ScarletKnight41 Aug 25 2005 11:18 AM |
It's the morning after two high scoring games, and I'm walking around in a foggy state. I swear - it's like I have a hangover after getting drunk on the scoring jags.....
|
Rotblatt Aug 25 2005 02:47 PM |
Casto is now 9th in the majors in OPS among catchers with more than 100 AB with .793--good for 5th in the NL.
|
Valadius Aug 25 2005 03:42 PM |
Castro is at the very least going to stick around.
