Jacobs again, huh? He's getting good mileage from that three-run homer. If he had hit an infield popup, that might have been the last we'd see of him for 2005.

KC
Aug 24 2005 08:47 PM

2 homers in three games and some nice leather out of position and the
manager saying he likes some injection of youth can go a long way.

At least so far.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 24 2005 08:59 PM

I think you should keep starting 'em till we lose one.

Funny how managers tend to prefer homers to infield popups.

it really is a powerful looking swing that kid has. smooth and big. before the season i figured it would be ok to not have a big power guy at 1b. but i think i may have been wrong. now i think 1b is a position where you really shouldnt waste time with a guy who isnt gonna bash the ball.

That would have been a good pickup 4 ya.
I managed to get Pudge Rod and Piazza on my team in both leagues, and I was able to use Piazza at 1st. But I really very rarely have, or used him as catcher as well. Its so hard to fill in for your catcher when he has his off day. Even though PudgeRod was gettin Sundays primarily the 1st half. trying to back up your catchers off day every week will drive you absolutely crazy tho. Im living proof. Ive been trying all season.

*Zvon runs across the room and jumps out the window*~~~~~~~~~

(I am thinking of dropping Piazza(DL) now. Probly wont tho. Already brought up that Cubs catcher for the spot.My Met loyalty factor costs me sometimes. But I dont mind. Sometimes Id just rather have players I tend to be watching anyway..Between the two teams I have Reyes,Wright,Piazza, Benson. had Galvine, dropped him be4 the break)

Padres take the lead over Houston 2-1 in the 3rd, and have a man on 3rd and 1 out

Aug 24 2005 11:08 PM

You know, I'm warming up to this Jacobs kid.
The Arizona announcers were talking about how the fielders botched the Kaz rundown, but I felt like it was at least partially due to real heads-up baserunning by Mr. Matsui. Also, they keep pronouncing Seo like 'sow', which results in my imagining a pig trying to pitch and then giggling like a little girl. Also, the Arizona announcers kinda suck.

All the money they will eventually throw him will be incidental.
Hes like a throwback real baseball guy, who is proud to be a student of the game.
Very enthuiastic, and he learns.
When i saw that play in Philly (and afew others that made me think he was possibly a dunce) with the grounder down the 3rd base line and Bell caught it and Wright didnt even notice and rounded the bag.......
well.
I think when he does learn his lesson he remembers it.
And in that case i dont mind those kind of mistakes. Cuz later I can laugh.

Do you think Arizona will let us move in here?

Jesus, but this is a good series so far.

We're patient at the plate, we've had (mostly) heads-up baserunning, timely hitting, and so far good pitching.

And Mike Jacobs is my fucking hero. How happy is this kid? How smart does Willie (and Petey) look for keeping him up and putting him in the lineup?

So many pleasant questions to consider . . .

Speaking of Seo, he sets em down in order in the third.

Ill tell ya one thing. hes gettin a jam course in adjustment. And to his credit, he doesnt seem phased or effected by the down side of all the negative attention surrounding him. He will be a better player for it, and you may be right, not here. But I was all sour on him off the getgo cuz they messed with reyes trying to make Kaz fit. I didnt like that.
i meant to say in the other thread that bret has a point about how some moves are made just because the research and analizing people dictate that it will draw more gate.

Interesting catch by the cameras after Reyes' home run. Willie was asking the other coaches if he hit it on a curve. Willie's got his eye on the ball with this kid, teaching him to hit the breaking stuff and telling him not to try to hit home runs.

Now if he could just do what Bobby V and Uncle Artie couldn't do, teach them to stop diving into first.

Before we all have a collective heart attack, let's remember that we're playing the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the starting pitchers the past two games were Claudio Vargas and Russ Ortiz.

Not quite "dead last". Unless the Diamondbacks do a lot of scoring, at the end tonight the Mets are in a three-way tie for third place in the NL East.

Woops. Didn't realize we caught up.

On a different note, anyone else find it odd that we scored 13 runs without a hit from our 3 or 4 hitters?

]I have to disagree. I just don't think he is a regular player. KazMat with a base hit. Let's leave Cairo on the bench.

How do you figure? He's got a good pedigree--first round draft pick with some nice minor league numbers who was never really given a starting job. And this year, his .757 OPS going into tonight's game is enough for 18th in the majors among catchers with over 100 AB.

Plus, he's got a cannon for an arm and handles the pitchers well.

We could do a lot worse than Castro, IMO . . .

Well, you said it right there. 18th in the majors is not the pedigree of a Met catcher.
