"Fonie"'s pretty good. I used to spell it "Phonzie"but I like your way better.

You maybe want to retitle this with an IGT somewhere in there to help out the archivist?

Mets go 1-2-3 in the first, including another ugly Kaz whiff

OlerudOwned
Aug 27 2005 04:22 PM

After a stirring photo montage (eh), Niekro strikes out to end a 1-2-3 first.

Jake DP to HR ratio 1:1

I was thinking using "IGT" was so 1998.

lol.

Did he hit it hard?
The TV guide says Met game on Fox but looks like Fox has other plans.
Im pissed.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 27 2005 04:42 PM

Yeah, hit it right at him. Replay showed Floyd was prolly safe.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 04:44 PM

2 doubles off Glavey?
Thats not good.

Gives up 2. I hope he settles in.
And the Met bats continue to make some noise.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 05:01 PM

Yea Reyes. These are like gold in fantasy baseball.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 05:08 PM

the Mets answer back with one.

Now Glavine has to settle, get his worki in, and we have to get those bats crackin.
I really wish Beltran would step up and do something today.
We need to hear from his bat.
If he dont contribute during this road trip, he will never hear the end of it.

OlerudOwned
Aug 27 2005 05:34 PM

Top of the order due up to start the 6th, and we need some hits. Only 2 for the game, but we're still in it. 2-1 Gigantics.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 05:36 PM

We're actually getting some dececnt swings off of Schmidt--they're just not falling in--Diaz, Jacobs, DeFelice & Beltran have all hit it pretty well.

Hopefully we'll keep it up and not get overanxious. They're bound to start falling in . . .

Glavine looks pretty good so far. Good location and he's getting those outside pitches called strikes.

I dont get that analysis from MLB Gameday online, so the old "looks the same in the box score" cliche is in place. Either way, heres hoping the hits start coming.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 05:38 PM

Add Matsui to the column of guys who hit the ball well but right at people.

Argh, this is frustrating. It doesn't seem like Schmidt's all that and a bag of chips today but he's totally shutting us down.

And Beltran with a single to right.

OlerudOwned
Aug 27 2005 05:43 PM

Grr...Floyd cant set up Wright, instead grounding out to end the top of the 6th

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 05:47 PM

Schmidt with 89 pitches through 6. We get one, maybe two more cracks at him before we get into their pen, which is pretty solid.

Again, I think he looks pretty hittable today, so let's make these at bats count, boys!

But first, keep it close, Glavine . . .

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 05:49 PM

Thanks for listening, Tommy--way to set em down 1-2-3! Only one more out, and Glavine gets 2006 guaranteed.

Now it's up to the heart of our order--Wright, Jacobs, Diaz.

Aug 27 2005 05:50 PM

And he's been doing his best lately for that sentence to not make us cringe

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 05:51 PM

No, seriously, David, make your at bats count. (he fouls out to first)

yea....a.side from that one inning with the 2 doubles Glavines been fine.
No walks. Economically thrown 76 pitches.
And Shmidt is not pitching as overpoweringly good as he can. But good nuff so far.
Mets should get to him b4 we see the SF pen. At least tie it.

Aug 27 2005 05:57 PM

That strike 3 to Diaz was about 8 inches off the plate!!

No shit! I yelled at the sreen for long enough that my girlfriend had to leave the room.

Motherfucking umps.

I wanted to leave Glavine in for the bottom 7th but ya gotta PH here.

Yo Steve Lyons ... STFU about Glavine and the contract deal.
It wasn't funny the first time and it doesn't get better when you repeat it 8 more!!

Edgy DC
Aug 27 2005 06:02 PM

Don't do that to your girlfriend.

Mike DiFelice is a walking fool, and he will taste his first Schaefer today.

Marlon Anderson on and looking to tie it as a pinch-hitter.

It's 2-0 at the time of this posting.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:04 PM

3-0 to Anderson and no one's up in the SF pen. Runners at 1st & 2nd.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:04 PM

tieing run 180 feet away.
Glavines done for the day.
Comeon Marlon

lil bingle would do it.

Edgy DC
Aug 27 2005 06:04 PM

He walks. Bags jammed for Reyes.

Rotblatt

Edgy DC wrote:

She was laughing at me as she left, so it wasn't quite so bad.

Anderson walks on 4 pitches, and Reyes takes the first pitch--sinker for a strike.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:06 PM

2-1 now. Keep up the patience, Jose.

GYC
Aug 27 2005 06:07 PM

What was Reyes doing?!

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:08 PM

Motherfucker.

This game now officially sucks.

Jose pops up to the second baseman. He got a pitch to hit on 2-1--fastball about belt high--but couldn't catch up to it after 3 breaking balls.

Damnit damnit damnit. Now we have to get through their pen.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:10 PM

damn.
We needed to plate one that inning.
Well, it aint over yet.
Padilla will pitch.

We need a hold here.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:13 PM

a 7 pitch walk to start.
OUCH.

GYC
Aug 27 2005 06:15 PM

Another walk for Padilla. Was ahead 0-2 for both.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:15 PM

eech.

And now he walks Fonzie after getting ahead 0-2.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:18 PM

alls we need is the ol triple play here.

I mean, we ARE due for one a those, arent we?

GYC
Aug 27 2005 06:18 PM

Nice play by Jacobs.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:20 PM

Cruz grounds out hard to Wright, who got the runner at second but there wasn't time for the DP.

Then a squib to Jacobs, who charged and made a strong throw to make Alou a dead duck at the plate.

Nice play by Jacobs.

Frayed Knot
Aug 27 2005 06:21 PM

Alou's still a great hitter but fortunately for us he can't do much of anything else. He got a terrible jump there.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:21 PM

wow....thats twice the Mets cut down a runner at home in 2 days.
was that a possible DP ball?

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 27 2005 06:22 PM

That was an exciting inning for Padilla.

GYC
Aug 27 2005 06:23 PM

Too slow. And Padilla K's Matheny to get out.

k, i see this now.
Kool.
Padilla gets out of it.
Amazin.
NOW LETS HIT.
..............................Beltran....time 4 a blast

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:24 PM

The one to Wright wasn't really--it was hit hard and started to eat up Wright, but he got it out of his glove pretty quickly and the throw to Matsui was a bit off. If he made a better throw, maybe, but Cruz is pretty quick.

DeFelice had to tag out Alou, so nothing doing there.

Padilla K's Matheny on a nice sinker to get out of the inning!

Gutsy job by Padilla, who REALLY shouldn't have lost Fonzie. Alou, maybe, but Fonzie's a shell of his former self now.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:27 PM

Schmidt threw 111 pitches.

he done.

Damn.
Lets crack their pen.
I dont care if they say its a good pen.
Smack dat ball.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:28 PM

Eyre in and he K's Matsui to start the inning.

Now would be a good time to get hot, Carlos.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:30 PM

I don't think Carlos likes being told what to do.

He smacks a liner to left for an out.

Floyd pops it up to end the inning on the first pitch.

Well, ladies and gentleman, things don't look good for the Metropolitans.

I think Reyes' bases loaded popup will be the turning point of the game for us.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:33 PM

shit.
yea, one clutch hit and ill shutup about beltran for at least a 4 day period.
But he has to get a groove. Now is the time for all good hitters to........blahblahblah.

So we got Wright , Jacobs, & Diaz to start the 9th.
Could be worse. they are all hot bats lately.
Lets start our MetMantra thing for hits in the 9th.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:33 PM

Two outs for Padilla, then a single past Matsui for Vizquel.

It'll be Benitez in the ninth.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 27 2005 06:35 PM

WRIGHT
JACOBS
DIAZ

The Holy Trinity. Let us pray.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:35 PM

And Niekro pops up to Diaz to end the inning.

Pretty solid performance for Padilla, all in all.

Come on, Mets. Let get something going!

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:39 PM

The Father strikes out looking on a high cutter. Up to the Son and the Holy Ghost now.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:40 PM

Fuckshit.

This game sucks.

"Vintage Jason Schmidt" my ass. He didn't get past 92 mph all night and we hit everything pretty hard. AND he only had 4 K's while walking 5.

He got lucky.

Come on, Diaz.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:41 PM

And the Holy Gost doubles down the left-field line. Mere mortal Jose Offerman in to pinch hit for DeFelice.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:42 PM

double for Diaz :))))))

aint over yet.
It would have bugged me if benetez 1-2-3rd us

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:44 PM

OFferman tries to hit a home run and misses completely on a fast ball by Benitz.

3-2 count.

Frayed Knot
Aug 27 2005 06:45 PM

Woodward to hit rather than Castro?
Ramon has to come in anyway.

GYC
Aug 27 2005 06:45 PM

Woody! Come on Woody!

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:45 PM

And he walks. Woody in for Padilla.

seawolf17
Aug 27 2005 06:45 PM

Nobody I'd rather see in this spot... than Chris Woodward.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:47 PM

a walk!
okay, this is gross, but its the 1st pic i could find of crossed toes

GYC
Aug 27 2005 06:47 PM

Screw Benitez.

Aug 27 2005 06:48 PM

Aug 27 2005 06:49 PM

Hey, if you'd told me we last Sunday that woulda gone 5-1 in the first six games of this trip, I'd have taken that.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:49 PM

Well, this game was frustrating.

Schmidt didn't have good control and looked very hittable but we couldn't get anything going and wasted a good outing by Glavine.

sigh.

Tomorrow's yet another MUST WIN game.

Zvon
Aug 27 2005 06:51 PM

well, good game people. We were in it to the last pitch.
I really wanted this game and the streak to continue, but Ill take what they give me. Phils lost, Fish won, Asstros play tonight.

Now we go out tomorrow and start a new winning streak.

metirish
Aug 27 2005 06:54 PM

Benitez gets save # 250 of his career, looks like the Mets left the hot bats in the desert, or more likely they have come up against better pitching.

Rotblatt
Aug 27 2005 06:55 PM

I gotta say, having Reyes (.30? OBP), Matsui/Cairo (.29? OBP) & Beltran (.32? OBP) in a row at the top REALLY doesn't do much for me.

Reyes, Beltran, Wright, Floyd, Diaz, Jacobs, Castro, Cairo/Matsui makes a lot more sense. Especially since Beltran has never hit for average and is not hitting for power now either. His only game right now is getting on base and running.
