Scott Holman Again

Scott Holman again
I can’t believe I got Holman again
Every time I buy some cards I wind up seeing his stupid grin
I can't believe I got Scott Holman again

Scott Holman again
Another one, I must have ten of them
Why can’t I get Straw or Seaver or Mookie Wilson,
I just end up with Scott Holman again.

Scott Holman again
Why they printed so many of his cards is beyond me
Scott Holman again
And I know that each and every one will find me
They will find me...

Scott Holman again
The guy has racked up like three career wins
He’s the type of card I can’t trade with my friends
I’ll be stuck with Scott Holman again

Scott Holman again
Just as soon as I’d forgotten all about him
Scott Holman again
And then Edgy makes me write a song about him
I so hate him...

Scott Holman again
Every time I buy some cards I wind up seeing his stupid grin
I can't believe I got Scott Holman again
I can't believe I got Scott Holman again

Hold them votes until Corner posts.

Crap, I was working on a song about Jose Oquendo (set to "Lady Madonna") with the same concept of my always getting his baseball cards. Lucky it was my #3 song.

Wouldn't these be less likely to get lost if they were in the 'Song Parody' fourm?

Let's move 'em later. I kinda like 'em on the first page.

A nice opening entry from The King. Let's see how HC responds.

Yes, the plan is to move them after the vote. This way they get more seen.

Sorry for the delay. I generally can't get on the computer during the work day. Better late than never.

Screwball Pitcher

Ever since he was a young boy
He lived to throw that ball
From St. Vincent to Vallejo
His pitches fooled them all.
We ain't seen another like him
The kid named Tug McGraw
That flaky long haired lefty
Sure throws a mean screw ball!

Signed as a free agent
Just wanted a chance to play.
In '65 he came here,
And joined the pen at Shea
Proved that he was ready
When Stengal made the call.
That flaky long haired lefty
Sure throws a mean screw ball!

He's a screw ball pitcher
The ball has such a strange twist
A screw ball pitcher
How's he do that with his wrist?

How do you think he does it? I don't know!
What makes him so good?

Get good games from the starters
Then you send Tug in to relieve.
Keeps saving games and says
"Ya Gotta Believe!"
If the Mets just keep winning
They'll be playing in the fall.
That flaky long haired lefty
Sure throws a mean screw ball.

Orioles thought
They could win the whole thing.
But the Mets just went
And took away their rings.

Traded Tug to the Phillies
After one bad year.
Pitching for the enemy
But Met fans they still cheer.
As a cagey vet'ran, helped the
Phillies win it all.

That flaky, long haired lefty
Sure throws a mean screw ball!!

Bravo HC!

Just to clarify -- I'm singing to "On the Road Ag'in." Is that correct?

Very good both of you!

So true about some guys that you see their faces over and over again when you rip packs of cards, only it's never the player's cards you really want.

I was singing 'On the Road Again', too. Those both kicked ass. Help me out with HC's song, though. I want to properly enjoy those words.

"Pinball Wizard."

Centerfield II

Yes. On the Road Again.

Sheesh, can we vote a tie. This is a tough one - each with their strengths.
Let me think a while.

Looks like I'm going out in the first round. I tip my cap to you HC.

Where's my hitting coach...I need to fire someone....

Norrin Radd

i think we're going to be singing "sweet adeline" down at McSorley's...

Duan

that was fantastic HC.

Norrin Radd

while i loved both, HC's is like a good stand alone song, while CF's feels like a concept album, unfolding before my eyes.

given equal quality of execution, i'm going for the grander idea inherent in Cf's pensive contemplation of the baseball player as collectible artifact.
