Let's Go SHaMs! (7/15/03)

Just looking around, I found this: I thought this was funny, for me. But I never awarded the prizes or crowned a champion! I will format this post, then go check who won.

Let's Go SHaMs!

Wide BeeGee
Since the Mets have essentially become a minor league team, I'm going to pretend the rest of the year is like the Minors and stage a private "second half" championship. Right now we're 0-0.

Whaddaya say we kick it off with predictions for the SHaMs (second-half mets):

What will the W-L record be (note: there's 69 games in the second half)? What place will we finish in?

Who will be the SHaMs' winningest pitcher?

Who will get the most saves?

Who will lead the team in:
HR
RBI
BA?

Who will be the SHaM MVP?

Get your answers in soon! The winner gets a huge showcase of cash and prizes*

*excluding cash, prizes and a showcase

OhSheaCanKC
You forgot "how many games will they win the wildcard berth by?"

cal koonce

29-40
Glavine
Almonte (Benitez traded, Weathes traded, who's left?)
Floyd
Floyd
Wigginton
Reyes

metsmarathon
35-34, next-to-last
trachsel

ring

floyd
floyd
reyes

floyd

Norrin Radd

1) W-L record = 25-44
2) Finish = Last Place
3) most wins = Glavine
4) most saves = Franco
5) most HR = Piazza
6) most RBI = Piazza
7) highest BA = Piazza
8) SHaM MVP = PIazza

Archie Goodwin

1) W-L record = 29-40
2) Finish = Last Place
3) most wins = Trachel
4) most saves = Franco
5) most HR = Clark
6) most RBI = Wiggy
7) highest BA = Phillips
SHaM MVP = Wiggy

Norrin Radd

by "most hr/wins/saves, etc", you mean the most IN THE 2ND HALF, not most for the season... correct?

LF

Record: 30 - 39

Finish: 4th

Winningest pitcher: Glavine

Saves: Stanton

HR: Floyd

RBI: Floyd

BA: Piazza

ShamVP: Piazza

JonathanArcher

What will the W-L record be: 35-34

What place will we finish in? Fourth

Who will be the SHaMs' winningest pitcher? Glavine

Who will get the most saves? Stanton

Who will lead the team in:
HR: Piazza
RBI: Piazza
BA?: Phillips

Who will be the SHaM MVP?: Piazza

Yancy Street Gang
30 wins.
5th place.
Wins: Trachsel.
Saves: Franco.
HR's, RBI, MVP: Floyd.
BA: Wiggy.

Wide BeeGee

Yes, NR: Only second-half stats count in SHaM-land

My pix (I suck at this stuff):

Record: 31-38 (4th)

Winningest: Trashpail

Savingest: DelMonte

HR: Cliffy

RBI: Cliffy

BA: Bono

MVP: Piazza

The Hot Corner
Record: 31-38 - Good for last place
Wins : Glavine
Saves: Stanton
HR: Floyd
RBI: Piazza
BA: Piazza
MVP: Floyd

Gold Glove

Record: 34-35
Finish: Fourth, the Marlins come back to Earth and get ready for another fire sale in the offseason

Wins: Trachsel - Glavine should continue to struggle at Shea and the Mets have now decided not to trade Trax for prospects
Saves: Franco - Ring and Almonte serve in middle relief while Franco gets his last hurrah
HR: Cliff Floyd - Without Burnitz and without Piazza for probably another a month, Floyd doesn't have much competition, unless he has surgery, if so, I'd go with Piazza.
RBI: Ty Wigginton
AVG: Mike Piazza - if he has enough at-bats, he'll probably have the highest batting average. If not, I'll go with J Phillips.

MVP of Second Half: Cliff Floyd

Wide BeeGee

I just checked the standings. the SHaMs are in first! GO SHaMs!

NL East

SHaMs 0-0 .000
Braves 0-0 .000
Expos 0-0 .000
Phillies 0-0 .000
Marlins 0-0 .000

OhSheaCanKC
Crapfart, I forgot to vote. Gimme everything Archer says
except Traxmax for pitcher.

The Hot Corner

Wide - "I just checked the standings. the SHaMs are in first! GO SHaMs!"

Well, that didn't last long.

Wide BeeGee
We're still in good shape for the Wildcard.

Looking back, the SHaMs really sucked ass.

Record (they wound up playing only 68, not 69 games)

26-42 (.382) Ouch!
Worse than the most pessimistic guess (and winner of this category, Norrin Radd)

Overall SHaM Division standings:
Florida 42-25
Atlanta 40-29
Montreal 34-34
Philly 34-36
SHaMs 26-42

What place will we finish in?
The answer was last.
4-way tie: Koonce, Radd, Goodwin, Yancy

Winningest SHaM?

Trachsel in a runaway with 8 wins
Winners: 5-way tie -- Wide, Gold Glove, Yancy, Archie, marathon

Most SHaM Saves?
David Weathers edges Mike Stanton 6-5
We had no winners; HotCorner, Archer & LF split 2nd place

Home Runs
2-way tie between Tony Clark and Jason Phillips - 6 each
(Wiggington 5, Reyes 4, Floyd 3)
Archie Goodwin with the Clark call!

RBI
Jason Phillips edges Wigginton 36-30
No winner but Archie & Gold Glove tie for 2nd.

Batting Average
This is hard to figure precisely from available info, but let's give it Jose Reyes, whose average between July 13 (end of the Mets season) and the end of the SHaM seasson jumped from 250 to 307. Phillips 312 to 298 would prolly have been next.
metsmarathon wins!!!!

SHaMVP
Phillips (6-36 ~290ish) prolly wins this; but you could also make a case for Reyes (4 HR, ~300 average).
Koonce picked Reyes, so he gets a point here

Final CPF point standings:
1. Archie Goodwin 3.5
2. Norrin Radd, YSG, Gold Glove, metmarathon, Koonce 2
3. Wide, Archer 1
4. LF, Hot Corner, Jonathan Archer 0.5

Archie Goodwin, come claim your prizes!
