Good Looking Prospect

August 19, 2005 - On Irish Night at Shea Stadium, Jae Weong Seo threw eight shutout innings to lead the New York Mets to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Nationals. One borough to the west, a Korean American couple gave birth to their first son and, perhaps fittingly, gave him an Irish name. Ryan, which means “little king” in Gaelic, checked in at 5:38 p.m. and had pretty much claimed lordship over the family by the time Seo escaped first and third, one out in the 8th. The little guy likes to eat, sleep and make Pirate faces. He says Braden Looper makes him nervous. He has a full head of hair, hands that seem disproportionately large, and eyes that, like Irish ones, will steal your heart away.

(I know, it should go on the other board, but I'm a proud papa and I want to boast.)

Mazel Tov to you and Mrs. Fielder on the birth of your son.

Now that he's had a full weekend to rest on his precious little duff, get that kid out there practicing. The Mets need him NOW!!!!

And if he thinks Braden Looper makes him nervous, tell him to be grateful he wasn't around when Jack Hamilton was the Mets' closer.

I have never raised a kid, but won't it have the opposite effect as far as posting frequency?

Is Ryan's mother Latvian, and are hundreds of thousands more little CF's due soon?

Not necessarily. When you're up at night with an infant, you look for all sorts of diversions. D-Dad discovered American Gladiators, for instance, in the pre-Internet infant days..

Plus, during the day, you're not going anywhere when that kid is asleep. The computer is welcome contact with the outside world.
