IGT 09/02/08 Mets at Milwaukee; Meet Jon Niese
Benjamin Grimm Sep 02 2008 02:58 PM |
We all know that there have been games when the Mets have inexplicably been stymied by a rookie pitcher that we've ever heard of. (Some will say that that's a particular Mets jinx, but I'm not prepared to jump to that conclusion.)
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 03:24 PM |
New York Mets:
Benjamin Grimm Sep 02 2008 03:25 PM |
Nice to see that Beltran is able to play.
Centerfield Sep 02 2008 03:28 PM |
Hopefully it's not out of necessity. Both of our other two optios in CF (Endy, Church) are LH hitters.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 03:32 PM Re: IGT 09/02/08 Mets at Milwaukee; Meet Jon Niese |
849, no? Niese Parnell Ramon Martinez Ricrado Rincon Al Reyes Brewerfan.net game thread has the very same conversation happening as you lead with: Major league debut? They got us right where they want us!"
Benjamin Grimm Sep 02 2008 03:40 PM Re: IGT 09/02/08 Mets at Milwaukee; Meet Jon Niese |
I guess I was overlooking someone. (I'll say it was Rincon.) That leaves the Mets big off-season acquisition, whoever he may be, poised to be the 850th Met.
holychicken Sep 02 2008 03:56 PM |
Wasn't it someone here that recently posted something about the Mets actually faring relatively well against rookie pitchers?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 04:00 PM |
We are the Knights who say Niese.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 04:10 PM |
Speaking of Knights, did Brandon get into a second game, or is he capable of a Chan Ho Park one-and-done distinction?
Benjamin Grimm Sep 02 2008 04:26 PM |
Just that one game so far.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 06:15 PM |
Pleased to meet you, Meat.
metsmarathon Sep 02 2008 06:15 PM |
well, his era can only get better!
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 06:19 PM |
OK, good strategy, walk everybody to get the lefty.
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 06:21 PM |
Got the ERA down below infinity
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 06:27 PM |
A bit hairy, but not too bad overall.
Methead Sep 02 2008 06:29 PM |
Nice job getting out of that jam there.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 06:32 PM |
Nice Tatty.
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 06:33 PM |
Let's upgrade Tatis's home church to a cathedral. Get the man to stay motivated.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 06:35 PM |
Tatis!!! Tell you what, he's been our least-expected most valueable player. I'm not sure what the criteria to get the Comeback Player of the Year Award is, but he's deserving.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 06:36 PM |
No bunt opportunity for Neise (for my own selfish pool reasons, I cared)
Nymr83 Sep 02 2008 06:43 PM |
is there an award for each league? because i think Josh Hamilton wrappe dit up a while ago in the AL
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 06:47 PM |
The Media Guide says that Niese is 6-4. No way!
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 06:53 PM |
Yup. Both leagues.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 06:54 PM |
I think Hamilton's year would have been last year, because he put up decent numbers for the Reds. Good question, though. Hmmmm.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 06:54 PM |
Nope. His start was pretty much an emergency, and was sent packing the next day.
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 06:55 PM |
Ump! Get out of the way when Carlos crosses home!
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 06:55 PM |
Ka-friggin-blammmmmO.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:00 PM |
Best time to get hot as well.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:02 PM |
Settle down there Jon Boy.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:04 PM |
Its a shame GameDay's batters don't match the actual player. Looking at the scrawny batter on the screen, and realizing Fielder is up is pretty funny.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 07:09 PM |
Got out of that jam. I like this kid.
Rockin' Doc Sep 02 2008 07:13 PM |
Cancel must have lost his mind as he gets caught trying to steal second to end the inning. At least Reyes will lead off the 5th. Maybe that was part of the plan all along.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 07:16 PM |
Cancel has what we used to call "deceptive slow" as opposed to "deceptive speed."
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:16 PM |
ERA is now 3.00
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 07:17 PM |
Now do the math, Jeets.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:17 PM |
Kind of like Mike Piazza looking like he was running faster than he actually was.
Rockin' Doc Sep 02 2008 07:19 PM |
It looks like the Niese train has jumped the track. It's getting real ugly, real fast.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:20 PM |
Ouch...
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:20 PM |
Any word on pen activity?
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 07:22 PM |
Bubble bursting....
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 07:23 PM |
And it's Figgy. All of my projections down the drain!
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 07:25 PM |
Getting Figgy with it!
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 07:32 PM |
Crazy inning.
Fman99 Sep 02 2008 07:32 PM |
Guiseppe Franco. Cunt.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 07:32 PM |
Big lead....pissed away. Wonder if Jerry will give more of the recent call-ups a shot to ride this one out. Figgy's a starter, right? He might get some more innings.
soupcan Sep 02 2008 07:35 PM |
Since when is a 4 run lead for the Mets a 'big lead'?
seawolf17 Sep 02 2008 07:39 PM |
Hey! It's Carlos and Carlos on a bad green-screen Puerto Rico commercial during America's Got Talent!
Rockin' Doc Sep 02 2008 07:39 PM |
Damn newbie. Apparently Niese wasn't familiar with the Mets way of doing things. Usually it's the bullpen that squanders the lead rather than the starter.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 07:48 PM |
Nats aren't helping us tonight.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 07:59 PM |
Call a Parra-medic!
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 08:05 PM |
Steal home, Carlos.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 08:10 PM |
A rare good inning for Duaner Sanchez. Popup, popup, groundout
Fman99 Sep 02 2008 08:15 PM |
I love the fact that we don't have to root for Mota anymore. He still stinks.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 08:26 PM |
Damn. Some late innings runs would be perfection right about now.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 08:32 PM |
He called you a cunt. Would have liked to see Nick the Stick get a gigantic hit there. Anyway, I'm gay for Stokes. Hell of a pickup he's turning out to be.
Gwreck Sep 02 2008 08:34 PM |
AL comeback player of the year -- sorry, Josh Hamilton -- is Cliff Lee of the Indians.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 08:35 PM |
Oh good, Eric Gagne!
Elster88 Sep 02 2008 08:36 PM |
Geez Carlos B. try and hit it harder next time.
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 08:39 PM |
Not this time.
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 08:43 PM |
I don't think I've ever seen a runner take out an ump BEFORE he reaches the base.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 08:43 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Sep 02 2008 08:44 PM |
What a play by N.D.
HahnSolo Sep 02 2008 08:43 PM |
Well that's a break. Nice play by Endy there.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 08:44 PM |
When Endy says you stop at first, you stop at first, dammit! Do not mess with Endy.
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 08:44 PM |
What a throw.
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 08:46 PM |
I only have the Brewers TV and they thought it was a bad call at 2d. What did SNY say?
metsguyinmichigan Sep 02 2008 08:47 PM |
Other than allowing the inherited runner to score, the pen has done well tonight.
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 08:47 PM |
Meanwhile, the 'O' has been shut out since the 3rd
Elster88 Sep 02 2008 08:47 PM |
He was out. It was clear on one of the outfield cams. He also wasn't running hard the whole time.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 08:52 PM |
Harry Coyle...errr Bob Ueker? Or is he just radio?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 08:53 PM |
They got struggle time, they got outstanding time.
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 08:56 PM |
Brian Anderson, who isn't bad, with Bill Schroeder.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 08:59 PM |
Weeks busted it out of the box only to make a really shitty turn at first and then drop into a lower gear between first and second. Then he slides feet first but reaches for the bag with his hand. Yost should fine him.
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 08:59 PM |
Reyes' relay throw on the DP was comically slow--I think he could have run to 1st and beat Fielder there.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 09:00 PM |
Another Brewer running the bases like shit. These guys don't deserve a playoff slot.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 09:02 PM |
Hey pretty good game we got going here.
Elster88 Sep 02 2008 09:03 PM |
I'm starting to think David is a good fielder.
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 09:04 PM |
Not for nothing, but has Wright been a superhero on defense the last month or what?
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 09:06 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Sep 02 2008 09:06 PM |
Nicely done, Daniel.
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 09:06 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Sep 02 2008 09:12 PM |
Yup! I want to pistol-whip every Met fan I hear spouting off the idea of moving Wright to 1st as the main cog in their "solution" to some perceived team problem.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 09:07 PM |
What do you say we take advantage of this break.
HahnSolo Sep 02 2008 09:07 PM |
The horrendous decision to bunt is softened by terrible defense by Milwaukee.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 09:08 PM |
Yea, extra frames we go. While I critique a selection of Bill Moyers' works and pay attention to this game at the same time!
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 09:08 PM |
That's a fine idea. (And not just because I have to be up in 6 hours.)
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 09:09 PM |
Brilliant.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 09:11 PM |
Not fully exploited until Reyes crosses the plate I say.
SteveJRogers Sep 02 2008 09:11 PM |
Nicely done, now 3 more outs, and I'm back to Moyers.
Elster88 Sep 02 2008 09:12 PM |
Please also handle the people who think Wright is having a bad year.
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 09:13 PM |
I'm more OK with bunts like this, where the hit is first goal, and the sacrifce is the residue.
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 09:18 PM |
Brews fans have been bitching about Yost NOT PH-ing for Kendall, especially now that they have an extra catcher aboard w/the callups.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 02 2008 09:20 PM |
Send the fat kid back to Nashville.
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 09:21 PM |
Shouldn't Kapler be teaching an SAT course or something?

metsmarathon Sep 02 2008 09:28 PM |
whew!
Nymr83 Sep 02 2008 09:29 PM |
Ayala strikes out Weeks to end it! (with a dropped 3rd strike of course, this is the Mets after all)
bmfc1 Sep 02 2008 09:29 PM |
YES!!! Good night folks.
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 09:29 PM |
7 scoreless innings out of the pen.
Gwreck Sep 02 2008 09:29 PM |
I think Wright gets tomorrow off. He needs it.
AG/DC Sep 02 2008 09:30 PM |
Just how I wrote it up.
themetfairy Sep 02 2008 09:30 PM |
Whew!
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2008 09:34 PM |
I bet he doesn't. Days off Thursday and Monday ... we're in a pennant race here.

You know, I forgot about that Thursday off. Still, I wonder about a 2-day rest being good for him.
Nymr83 Sep 03 2008 01:07 AM |
2 out of 4 is good enough. i'm not resting any regulars with a penant race and 2 days off this coming week.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 03 2008 01:44 PM |
So what did we think of Niese?
soupcan Sep 03 2008 01:52 PM |
Parrot.
