Who the hell is Ramon Martinez and when did he become a Met?

Sep 07 2008 11:18 AM

Not to be confused with Pedro's older brother who is retired at the present moment and you could look it up.

This one split the 2008 season between Las Vegas (LAD system) and New Orleans and was called up with the rest of the horde last week.
He'll be the logical replacement if/when they want to give Reyes a rest.

Ramon played in SF for most of his career, and was a favorite of Dusty Baker.

No TV?

TransMonk
Sep 07 2008 12:09 PM

MLB.TV has the Phillie broadcasters. What a crock!

On edit...now they have switched to SNY...as it should be.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 12:13 PM

No Burrell?

Good.
Dunno if you guys heard but I hat that guy.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 12:15 PM

I get the Phils on TV thru Comcast.
I don't mind these announcers at all.
They are very good.
All very imformative baseball talk, no fluff.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 12:21 PM

Nice first half by Pedro.
Lotta off speed stuff.
Curves working for him early on.

bmfc1
Sep 07 2008 12:25 PM

EI and mlb.tv have the Mets guys.

bmfc1
Sep 07 2008 12:30 PM

Joe D. struck out 369 times in his 13 year career--Howard has K'd 184 times thus far this season.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 12:41 PM

Phils plate 2, Dobbs double over Tatis head the big hit in the inning.
Ruiz 2 out RBI single was big too, Pedro allowing the 8th spot hitter to drive in a run with a line single to left.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 12:51 PM

Hope the Mets get to hittin the ball today.
They are looking patient.
They are having Moyer throw a good number of pitches.
But Moyers hitting his spots and we are gonna have to hit the ball.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 12:57 PM

Ha.
What an awsum lead off bunt single by Cancel.
That was just a picture perfect bunt.

Sep 07 2008 12:58 PM

Wow, does Gil Jr. look like his dad!

I wish I could see that. How old is he now?

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 01:08 PM

Carp.
Wright has a good at bat but can't keep it going.
Moyers almost up to 60 pitches after 3.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 01:14 PM

I'm going to peg Gil Jr. for his late fifties. His son Gil III, if I recall correctly, was in trouble a few years ago, but got off with probabtion for a manslaughter rap.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 01:17 PM

Greg Dobbs has a slappable Gregg Jefferies face.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 01:18 PM

Now I really want to slap.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2008 01:19 PM

Shitballs.

Anytime the offense wants to show up this series, it would be appreciated.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 01:21 PM

When I saw Dobbs was in for this series I just knew he was gonna be trouble.
He's usually just off the bench to pinch hit, and very good at that.
Charlie Manuel had a feeling Dobbs would be big and decided to start him.
Damn.

HahnSolo
Sep 07 2008 01:22 PM

The last remnants of my confidence in Pedro have disappeared.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 01:23 PM

OMG.
That had to be caught.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 01:25 PM

The phrase is "Yo la tengo," Nick.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 01:26 PM

I know Evans was coming in and should have had the easier play, but he didn't see it at all. Nor was he calling it.
Reyes, with the more experience, should have made that play.
He pulled off too early.

HahnSolo
Sep 07 2008 01:26 PM

Hate to say it, but September 2007 is rearing its ugly head again.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 01:27 PM

Pedro has had plenty of help. Giving up on him doesn't put the Mets in a better position today.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 01:27 PM

0-6 Phillies.
I don't like this at all.

The way this year has gone there is almost no way this year can be viewed like 2007.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 01:32 PM

That was a great pick by Howard.

I know it's hard when you're down like this, but you have to wait Moyer out and get some guys on base. The Mets are never good at that.

holychicken
Sep 07 2008 01:36 PM

This is just bad. The offense is terrible right now. Two pitchers in a row making them look like fools and they get to face Hamels tonight. They need to wake up in this game. Score some runs, damnit.

I agree 100%, but with the Mets having a four game lead going into this series, if the Phils overtake em again and go to the post season in our place you just know how the media is gonna spin it.

One hit.
All we got is one freakin hit.

COME-ON GUYS!
HIT THE BALL!

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Sep 07 2008 01:56 PM

Hey, anyone mind if I pull down the "1" signaling Pedro's final start?

Jayzus already

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 02:02 PM

Moyer with his 1st K of the game in the 6th. Pitching a one hitter.
This just boggles my mind.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2008 02:03 PM

MLB.TV not staying with the commercial-less SNY for the rest of the game.

Instead they will try to get me to by a SHARP Aquos TV for the 173rd time this season. They need more than one sponsor.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:07 PM

One bunt single isn't going to get it done even if Pedro '98 was out there.

And this offense has another game tonight. Pedro doesn't.

Offense.

A Boy Named Seo
Sep 07 2008 02:09 PM

I'd rather watch Guiseppi Franco than these horse fisters on "Loudmouths".

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 02:09 PM

Moyer bats in the 7th so he will pitch the 7th.

Heilman in and he walks Moyer to lead off the inning.
Unbelievable.

Chris Young pitching a no-no vs. the Brewcrew.
In the 8th there.

Aaron gets the DP grounder.
Nice.

Then Victorino hits a soft single to center and thats all for Heilman.
Feliciano comes on.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:09 PM

Heilman not waiting for his relief.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Sep 07 2008 02:10 PM

I agree the offense owes us a lot more than they've given us. They've been awful lately.

OTOH, Pedro has been terrible too.

The Mets are ringing up those appearance numbers by using the same complement of guys down by 6, down by 2, tied, up by 1 or up by 6.

Bobby (*cough*) Parnell.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2008 02:13 PM

Yeah, down by 6 late, I disapprove of using so many bullpen arms in the first game of a DH.

Losing the early game will make the late game as much of a must win as we've had in a while.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:21 PM

It's official. The Mets are looking vulnerable to lefties.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:23 PM

That single by Easley bounced once on the outfield grass.

A small victory.

We do have extra arms out there but I am a little surprised at the selection used to mop up this one.
I shouldn't say mop up I guess, that's defeatist.
We can explode for 6 easy.

If we would at least hit.
Hey, there's a hit.

A bunt and infield single for our 2 hits.
Woot!

Sep 07 2008 02:30 PM

Just getting here. AHHHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHHHHH.

What, we can't score a single run against these punks?

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:31 PM

Bullpen is giving us the kind of effort that we might have needed more in the nightcap.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:34 PM

Parnell up in the pen.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:42 PM

I thought Victorino caught that ball.

In fact, I subsequently thought that when it bounced toward Golson, it was still in the air and would have been an out had Golson come up with it.

Runs. on. the. board.

AG/DC
Sep 07 2008 02:44 PM

Suddenly, it's Phillie's outfielders playing like suckers.

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 02:44 PM

Evans doubles and Wright drives him in. Nice.

Beltran drives in Wright with a double and gets to third on an errant relay throw.
Thats what we need.

Evans has had some really nice at bats this game.
He alone has forced the Phillie pitchers to throw a total of 28 pitches.

SteveJRogers
Sep 07 2008 02:47 PM

Heading to Shea for the night cap. Hopefully that was a "portent" of things to come tonight.

And the ninth this afternoon.

SteveJRogers
Sep 07 2008 02:48 PM

Wright has to stop playing like Alex Rodriguez and more like, well, my derisive nickname around here. He has to be that type of player that all he does well is beat you.

Well considering he is getting close to Jeter in terms of marketing and face time. Even has his own charity organization, so why not do the total package and stop coming up small in the big spots, and doing the "ARod" numbers in moments that "don't matter."

Zvon

6-2.

At the close we have Jurrassic Park music?
lol.

Are they trying to say Shea is a prehistoric Stadium?

Very disheartening loss.
They knew what they'd be seeing from Moyer.
Shoulda got to him.

The highlight of this game was seeing Julia Stiles as she walked by. And she's not even that cute. But I respect her as a fan.
