Tougher to predict what would constitute a satisfactory record during this stretch. I think the immediate goal is to end Sunday at least one game better than we are now however that's accomplished. IOW, at least a 2 game lead seeing as how the Phils have the tougher opponent. Phils-Cubs tied at 2 right now thru 6

Any day that the magic number drops is a good one. A day that it drops by two is an even better one. Expand the lead and reduce the magic number. That's the way to clinch. Pounding the Marlins this weekend while the Cubs do the same to the Phillies would also be very helpful.

The Cubs taking care of the Phils this weekend and the Mets taking care of the Brewers next week would also take a little pressure off that last week of the season at home. 7 vs the Cubs and Marlins while Philly plays Atlana and Washington at the end of the year worries me a bit. The bigger lead we have and the less the Cubs have to play for, the better IMO.

I'd like to track down the Brew Crew in winning percentage just to be safe, but seems like if we can do that we'll prolly also be in great shape for the division, so win-win. Just staying ahead of St. Louis in the WC standings does us good in fact.

I too would like to sweep the Brewers to match them in percentage but generally speaking, I would take 7-4 over the 11 games as satisfactory. 6-5 wouldn't really be good enough.

All wins are good wins, but establishing dominance that puts them in the submissive position come post-season would be double-plus-good.

Which means 7-4 (2-2 from here on in) is now a bare minimum and even then only if it's lose today then take 2 of 3 from Philly. A 7-4 record that includes losing 2 of 3 vs Phil would not be an ideal situation.

If the Mets bring the lead up to three during today's action, I could live with taking only one of three from the Phillies. It would leave us four games closer to the end of the season with the same lead the Mets have today. But of course I do want more than that. A win today puts the Mets only one game behind the Brewers, which could be helpful if necessary. And taking two or even three from the Phillies would go a long way to building that collapse-resistant lead that we'd all like to see.

Well, I'm not looking for collapse proof, just collapse resistant. If they could be at 7 with 17 to go again I'd be pretty happy, especially with all head-to-heads against Philadelphia over and done with.

3 up, 23 games left. Both teams have three day offs left. Mets' last off day though is on the 11th, the Phillies have theirs scattered in each of the final three weeks of the year. Mets Phillies 9/5-9/7 vs Phillies 9/5-9/7 at Mets 9/9-9/10 vs Nationals 9/8-9/10 vs Marlins 9/12-9/14 vs Braves 9/11-9/14 vs Brewers 9/15-9/18 at Nationals 9/16-9/18 at Braves 9/19-9/21 at Braves 9/19-9/21 at Marlins 9/22-9/25 vs Cubs 9/22-9/24 vs Braves 9/26-9/28 vs Marlins 9/26-9/28 vs Nationals Going to come down to who does the best against the dreck of the NL East.

Well, first it's going to come down to this weekend's head-to-head matchup. Once those three games are out of the way we'll have an idea of how nerve-wracking the following couple of weeks might be.
