Santana Trade Tracker

With the Minor league season ending, it's about time to check back and see how the players we gave up for Johan are doing.

Obviously Gomez has a month to go. The Twins also just called up Humber for the September roster expansion.

(I'm not sure why the extra space between the tables shows up).

Look at Gomez's OBP--with that speed!--yeesh.

Nymr makes a good point. Gomez is still very young, and probably should have spent another year in AAA. I don't think that he'll turn out like Reyes, but he has more talent than his numbers reflect and should improve off of this.

Whatever future Humber has will be in the pen, I think.

Mulvey hasn't embarrassed himself, but I think he needs one more year in the minors. He looks like he could be a decent back-of-the-rotation guy eventually.

Guerra was the most highly rated prospect of the four, and has to be considered by far the biggest disappointment. He still has time to get back on track, but his stock has plummeted.

Guerra having a wee bit of a problem with his control, huh?

The problem with Gomez isn't just the OBP but that he needs all those infield hits and bunts just to get it to that point - and that there's almost no power to go along with it.
There's potential there and it's certainly not too late, but I was never w/those Met fans who seemed to be going overboard over him last year while trashing Milledge in the process. I'd still bet on Lastings in the long run (who's only 7 months older).

"Guerra was the most highly rated prospect of the four"

Well, sort of. Highest potential ceiling maybe, but he was/is so young, so raw, and so far from the majors that he'd win most votes in all categories from best future career to most likely to flame out at an early age and anywhere in between.
'Most Intriguing' prospect is probably the better term but, yeah, he didn't exactly take a step forward this year.

Humber finished up the year better than he started, but he's also about to turn 26 so that clock is ticking.

Mid/back of the rotation is probably the best guess for Mulvey.

Like the deal then, still like it now.

I figured I'd be hard pressed to find anything supporting that statement, but Baseball America did:

John Sickels rated Guerra #2 as well (F-Mart was first, Gomez 3rd). And the Mets now have several guys who had been rated below Guerra that look better than him now (Niese, Murphy, Evans, probably Kunz as well). It's impossible not to be happy with the way things have panned out.

Don't forget, you gotta include the fact that we managed to keep Pelfrey in all analysis of the deal. I gotta admit, I was totally wrong about how the deal would turn out, but then I'm always overly cautious about trades involving prospects.
