Division Series
There is no difference in scheduling for the NLDS this year.

The top AL team will have the choice of the "A" series (starting October 1) or the "B" series (starting October 2).

(Edit: It's now confirmed that the top AL team gets the "choice" of when to start their series, therefore the NL schedules are the same for both sets of games in the division series.)

Remind me: if both AL and NL CS end early, are we obliged to wait until the dates shown here for WS?

Gwreck
Sep 04 2008 10:01 PM

Yes. All of these dates are fixed.

Last year the ALDS teams had the choice, so it should be the NLDS year to choose.

If, as we hope, the Mets make the playoffs and the Yankees don't, there should be less competition for the prime-time starts. (The Cubs might mess that up for us, though.)

A larger pct of games are going to be in prime time anyway on account of the extra days off which they built in for TV purposes starting last year.
That said, I HATE those extra off days - and it really bit them in the ass last year when only 2 series of the possible 7 went beyond the minimum leaving lots of holes in the sked.

Wait, this can't be right:

Sat Oct 18
NLCS Game 6 (if necessary)
NLCS Game 7 (if necessary)

Clearly a typo. That's AL Game 6 and NL 7.

I thought so too, but the NLCS starts before the ALCS this year, again, which makes it unlikely that they'd allow Game 5 of the DS and Game 1 of the LCS on consecutive days.

I did see somewhere the rumor that they would start only two division series games on the first day but I haven't confirmed that with solid info.

Bump with the confirmation that the NL division series are the same this year.

I just got the e-mail telling me I wasn't selected for NLDS tickets.

The only thing I've received from the Mets so far today is "Vote for Wright and you could be a VIP winner"

Gwreck

Nothing, again. Keep your fingers crossed. I think I got into game 7 of the NLCS in '06 on something like the third-chance drawing.

If the Mets have to play the Brewers on Monday, would it be a day game or a night game?

I remember that the tie-breaker in 1999 against the Reds was played at night, but I seem to recall that last year's game against the Phillies, had it been necessary, was going to be a day game. The Rockies and Padres did play a day game last year.

TransMonk

I recall last year's COL/SDP game being at night. BB Ref shows the time the game started as 5:37PM, but does not denote what time zone that was in, but I'm assuming MST.

I would think that ESPN would want a primetime game, especially if it's the only one and New York is playing.

Gwreck
Sep 24 2008 02:27 PM

I think it depends in large part on how much travel would be required A. for the visiting team to get to the tiebreaker game and B. Where the winner/loser would have to fly to after the game.

If they play at Shea, the Brewers would be coming in from Chicago and the winner would be returning to Chicago for a day off (Tuesday) before playing the Cubs on Wednesday.

Seems to me no problem doing it at night.

Now, if a rainout forced a makeup on Monday, and then a tiebreaker on Tuesday, the tiebreaker would probably be a day game.

I'm told that "winner" emails are now going out for the NLCS.

Benjamin Grimm
Sep 26 2008 10:09 AM

Ooh, really?

I never got my "loser" e-mail...

Is it possible...?

Gwreck

Winner emails go out first, then loser emails. Keep your fingers crossed.
