Ah, for fuck's sake, Mets.

Santana not looking sharp here in the 1st.

Charlie Manuel ejected , he looks huge next to the ump.

seawolf17
Sep 07 2008 06:35 PM

A few questions.

How tiny is that home plate umpire?

WTF is with the kid with the PSP who was sitting behind the Phillies dugout? Get the eff out of there before you get drilled by a foul ball and it's some kind of effing national tragedy because you're brain-damaged.

And how the heck was Wright safe at third on the play?

And can Jimy Williams get thrown out right after Charlie Manuel gets thrown out? That'd be great.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 07 2008 06:36 PM

Sweet!!!! Toss Williams, too!!

About time we started getting some breaks.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 07 2008 06:38 PM

CARLOSSSSSSSSSSSSS (Both of them!)

seawolf17
Sep 07 2008 06:39 PM

And with Rich Dubee heading out to the mound, the Phillies have tied a National League record for most non-playing people in uniform on the field in one half inning.

3-1 good guys.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 07 2008 06:39 PM

Delgado has 63 rbi in 65 games? Wow!

Zvon
Sep 07 2008 06:41 PM

Finally some favorable excitement.

L8r Charlie. No doubt the bat hit Costes glove.

I think Wright was out there, but great slide gets him the call.
Big hit by Delgado.

We got game.

3-1 Mets after one.

Nice of ESPN to end their football round table a good 15, or maybe 20 seconds prior to 1st pitch.
I was beginning to think they were going to confine the game to a small box in the corner while the main screen showed 3 more hours of Berman and the other lunkheads crying over the Tom Brady highlights and jerking off to the Brett Favre ones.

OK, I'm done ranting now.

Wright was lucky as hell on the call at 3rd but that play also set up the rest of the inning with Beltran following and all.

I think Charlie M. was pissed off on the catcher-interference play because he thought the ump got talked into by Wright.
Def the correct call though.

]Setback could end Wagner's season
09/07/2008 7:10 PM ET
By Anthony DiComo / MLB.com

NEW YORK -- The game may have been simulated, but the results were quite real. And now the Mets must again cope with the notion that they may be without Billy Wagner for the rest of the regular season.

Wagner cut short a simulated game Sunday afternoon after feeling discomfort in his left elbow, and will visit with a team doctor on Monday to determine his next step.

"We were hoping that he would be pain-free," general manager Omar Minaya said. "But after he threw his last pitch, he did feel some tenderness. Hopefully, we'll see what that means when he talks to the doctor."

Scheduled to throw roughly 20 pitches between halves of Sunday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Wagner ended the session after throwing an errant breaking ball and feeling what Minaya described as "discomfort" in his left elbow.

Wagner was unavailable for comment following the simulated game.

On the disabled list since Aug. 5 with inflammation in his left elbow, Wagner played catch earlier Sunday morning and deemed himself fit for active duty -- barring a setback.

"I feel like I'm as good as I'm going to get," Wagner said before throwing the simulated game. "I'm sure the more I throw, the more the rust comes off, but I think they want to take it slow. They want to be able to make the best judgment for the team."

This is the second time Wagner's rehab has been delayed in this manner, the first coming when tightness in his left arm marred a simulated game in Pittsburgh. Wagner had not attempted another simulated game in the interim, instead playing catch and throwing regular bullpen sessions. And now, with only three weeks remaining on the September schedule, another period of rest and rehabilitation could take Wagner to the end of the regular season.

"We're going to be conservative," Minaya said. "We've been conservative, and we'll continue to be conservative. He's been showing great signs, great progress. He's been throwing the ball pretty good."

Yet now there's a possibility that he won't be throwing again for some time.

Unbeknownst to the Mets, that action has triggered "Pac-10 rules night" at Shea. Hamels will now pitch from 30 feet away and the Mets bullpen will be required to conform to the pitching motion of a men's over-40 league.

Indeed.

Coming in to this series I wanted at least two wins, but I would have settled for one.

I wish it had come earlier, but I'm glad to have it.

It will be tough (but entirely possible) for the Phillies to outplay the Mets by 3 games without any head-to-head. But the Mets are in a much better position than if they had lost tonight's game.

I'm going to bed very content tonight.

Rockin' Doc

Santana would likely be a contender for the Cy Young if the bullpen hadn't squandered numerous potential wins. He is sporting an ERA of 2.00 for the season at Shea.

Santana would likely be a contender for the Cy Young if the bullpen hadn't squandered numerous potential wins. He is sporting an ERA of 2.00 for the season at Shea.

I'll trade a division for a Cy Young anytime.

I went to the game with two friends and the mom of one of my friends. It was a great Ladies Night at Shea - lots of cheering and not too much nail biting. A good win :)

AG/DC - "I'll trade a division for a Cy Young anytime."

I feel pretty confident that Santana would as well.

Meant to say that I'll take a division.

Went to the game as well. Extremely satisfying to see the Mets get Hamels.

Tons of moronic Philly fans in the upper level. I *was* encouraged that for the most part, the response to them was to simply do the "Let's Go Mets!" chant even louder.

Funny story: the seats that I picked up for the game -- front row of the upper deck -- were the same exact two seats that we had for NLCS Game 7 in '06. I now consider the seats sufficently exorcised.

Things I'll miss about Shea -- emphasized this game: the upper deck shaking during the big moments of a big game.

Where were you sitting? In the day game, we were in Upper Box 709A, Section 3, seats 1 through 3.

That is so, so true. Hopefully they built that into the design of CitiField.

We were in Box 761A, Section 15, Seats 3-4. I didn't watch my tape of the ESPN broadcast yet to see if we were shown on TV but we brought the "K" cards for Johan.

took my 7-year old son, despite it being a "school nite".
perfect nite... great seats, great weather, and a Mets win. He learned to keep score, he asked me if Reyes was a "good 2-strike hitter" (answer: no), he didn't whine for souvinirs or more food (like his sister), he was totally into the game. This is the first time it was just him and me... he's been to a few games before, but always with the whole family.

I think I've started something.

Oh, and he even asked me why the crowd was cheering "MVP" for Delgado. I explained to him that, despite the fact that his numbers are inferior to teammate Wright in nearly every way, and that unlike Wright, Delgado played like crap for the 1st half of the season, that many fans think Delgado is the team's most valuable player because he's had a great 2nd half, while Wright has been fading. He said "well, David's probably tired now because he's played the whole year, while Delgado has only played 1/2 a year."

I told my son he had a very good point. *

I was at both games. It felt like the longest fucking day of my life. And I mean that in a very good way.

My wife and I took the kids last night. A buddy of mine had a Diamond View Suite, so we figured it would be a relatively easy way to go to the game with a 7 week old baby. And we wanted to get her to Shea before it closed its doors. She didn't seem impressed. Just slept, and nursed, and cried as if we were at home.

My son (just turned 3) loved it though. He waved his arms in excitement the entire bottom of the first. He's at the point now that when he hears that familiar three-part beat, he knows to chant "Let's Go Mets!"
(The MVP confused him, he continued to chant "Let's go Mets" anyway. At least, I think he was confused, unless he's been talking to Norrin's son and trying to make a statement). He didn't seem to like the luxury box though. He kept pointing out to the crowd saying "Dada, let's go there." I missed Delgado's second HR because he had to pee.

The only down part was that he was really looking forward to singing "Take me Out to the Ballgame" but instead they had some kid playing a banjo or something. Stupid move by the Mets. You can't take that away from a crowd. I felt bad for the kid because he got booed but, you know, it sucked. Lazy Mary was still fun though.

Damn CF - I would have loved to have had the chance to say hi to you!

You forgot to mention the guy with the beer gut and horrible voice who sang "G-d Bless America" right before Mandolin Boy played "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." Sorry the kid was booed, but he was boo-worthy.

It was Greek Night.... the kid was playing the balilaika (a Greek mandolin). I was sitting near him. His playing was fine, but the mike was causing feedback and they didn't get a decent sound level til halfway thru the song.

But even if it had gone off without a hitch, it was still a stupid idea.

on edit: and what about me C-Mom... you didn't want to say hello to me? Just CF? just cuz he's got a cute little baby? well, the heck with both of ya.

But you do have to understand that I especially wanted a peek at this little cutie -

Even if it had gone off without a hitch, booing a kid is low klass.

I checked the "Going to the Game" thread and thought everyone was going in the afternoon. I love that picture of Stella, she looks cute...not as cute as Vic, but still cute.

Booing the kid was not cool, but absolutely, 100% predictable. That's why it's a bad idea.

The God Bless America thing was weird too. I would think that if you're going to sing in front of 50,000, you'd maybe, I don't know, tuck your shirt in or something.

Cute doesn't do her justice. Stella looks positively regal, like she's waiting for all of us to do her bidding.
