IGT - 9/15 Mets at Nationals
Centerfield Sep 15 2008 10:05 AM |
It was in Washington last year that I first felt like they may blow the damn thing. I dub tonight a BIG GAME.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 15 2008 10:06 AM |
We need Pedro not to suck. I don't mean, throw a 3-hitter and whiff 10. Just not to suck.
|
HahnSolo Sep 15 2008 10:10 AM |
Agreed. But my confidence in Pedro is pretty much shot.

If Pedro can't give a good showing against this team then I fear for this season , still the Nats are sure to be pumped up to face the Mets.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 15 2008 10:29 AM |
By the way unlikely that Easley will play tonite or for several days. He tweaked something while costing us Saturday's game with that DP.
|

Castillo needs to seize this chance and get back in as a regular.

And he has to personally bat in about 10 runs. More if possible. And pitch a complete game.

The good news is that we scored 23 runs on these guys during the most recent two game series.

Nats hitting Pedro hard early doors , 1-0 Nats.

It is early but Lannan seems to be foolin the fellas
|
metsguyinmichigan Sep 15 2008 05:39 PM |
Doesn't seem like Pedro's gonna last too long, though I hope he was just shaking off some rust there.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 15 2008 05:42 PM |

And knowing they did that to Perez and Pelfrey gives one pause over the blood they could shed with 84-mph Pedro out there.

How in the heck is Anderson Hernandez batting .340? What is that, 120 points higher than he did with us?
|
bmfc1 Sep 15 2008 05:46 PM |
How about Castillo's range? He's good for at least six inches, either way!
|
metsguyinmichigan Sep 15 2008 05:51 PM |
The Schneid's been swinging a decent bat for a while now. Decent in relative terms, of course
|
Elster88 Sep 15 2008 06:05 PM |
Castillo is a good fielder. Let's not fall to the lowest common denominator of beating on the whipping boy.
|
Elster88 Sep 15 2008 06:06 PM |
This guy Lannan ought to win the Cy Young. Sick.

It's not Jerry's fault. And it wasn't Willie's fault last year. 1 hit today. No bullpen any day. What do you want him to do?
|

Keith and Ron killing Mock for throwing off-speed stuff with a six run lead , fine, but I never hear them critical of met pitching in similar situations.

Agreed. We search to get outs from somebody, then get them from Rincon and he immediately gets yanked.

It's not just that he's throwing off-speed stuff, it's that he's doing so w/a 3-2 count in situations where a walk is the best way to get a team behind by a bunch back into the game.

At this point I'd try Leroy Parnell.

I believe that Manuel, like WWSB before him, often ovwermanages the lefty/righty matchups and goes through too many pitchers most nights. Still, I have to feel for him when you consider his limited options in the pen. Most any game I can imagine Manuel and Warthen considering their options in the pen. Manuel - "Johan's pitched a hell of a game tonight, but he's up to 112 pitches and I really don't want to wear him out too much tonight. The Braves have a pair of lefties due to open the inning. Who should we send in for the 8th?" Warthen - "Well, you can go with the Show or Feliciano." Manuel - "Great. Show can't get anyone out and Feliciano never gets the first guy he faces. Might as well put Pedro out there while there is no one in scoring position." Feliciano give up a bomb to the first batter. Manuel - "I told you, he never gets the first man he faces. Have Smitty get ready for the righthander." After surviving the 8th without further damage and having burned Smith and Schoeneweis along with Feliciano in the inning, Jerry considers his options for the 9th Manuel - "Now what? We're still up a run. All we need is three outs." Warthen - "Stokes is unavailable after the heavy shelling he took in the 8th last night, but we still have lots of options. Heilman, Sanchez, and Ayala are all rested and ready to pitch the 9th. Manuel - "Just shoot me now."

Little Frayed tonight FK? Geez, that wasn't meant to imply anything, I was just remarking that Castillo made the last out in the last two games.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2008 09:31 PM |
NO, it was bashing the easy target (complete w/stupid nickname) because him being the culprit is the pre-arranged story-line and whether it's true or not is a non-issue.
|
metirish Sep 16 2008 04:27 AM |
Castillo made a very nifty play on defense early in the game to start a DP.At the time a huge play.

Yeah cause there aren't any derrisive nicknames for struggling Mets around here. And again, how was what I said blaming the last two losses on him, I was just stating the obvious in a factual statement.

|
Frayed Knot Sep 16 2008 06:45 AM |

Right, the coincidence of him making the last out was why you brought this up in the first place. And it's why you just happened to throw in the stupid nickname and the contract to boot, as if any of this is even the slightest bit relevant in a game where he got on base twice more than Wright, Beltran & Delgado combined and the staff gave up 5 two-out runs.
|
SteveJRogers Sep 16 2008 08:38 AM |
||
You are putting WAY too much stock in a piffy, innocuous statement written in frustration. Of course if it had been Murphy, or even Jose Reyes who made the final outs of both games I would not have made a comment about their future with the team (or Reyes' big contract). But because it was Castillio who has had a bad, injury riddled year, been given butt kisses all year by the SNY commentators, and will be with this team for three more seasons, yeah my comment had some edge to it. It wasn't meant to lay the blame of the games, or the past week at his feet.
