Key to this game is beating up on the Nationals' rookie pitcher before they can beat up on our AAA pitcher.
HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 08:08 AM |
I assume we put Murphy in left in the 2 hole and drop Church down.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 17 2008 08:08 AM |
I was thinking of dropping Church off of a building.
Vic Sage Sep 17 2008 08:22 AM |
if you dropped him off a building on State Street, in Brooklyn, Sarah Palin would be overjoyed... apparently, she hates the separation of Church and State, so their merger would no doubt delight her.
bmfc1 Sep 17 2008 08:41 AM |
Vic: Nicely done!

I'm going to see her at 1 p.m. today. I'll ask her.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 17 2008 12:02 PM |
Well, didn't get close enough to ask questions. I had airport duty, which means you're there as the plane arrives and talk to the official greeters and such.
bmfc1 Sep 17 2008 02:01 PM |

Murphy will save us.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 17 2008 02:15 PM |
Tonight's Nationals starter is Shairon Martis, a 21-year-old righty from Curacao. This will be his third start and the first at home. He lost 2-0 in Atlanta on September 4, and 2-1 in Florida on September 12. In both starts, he lasted exactly 5 innings. In that second start, he struck out 9 Marlins, walked 3, and gave up 2 hits.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 17 2008 02:20 PM |
Hey wow, he's got a website: http://www.shaironmartis.com/

Damn , he must be good.
sharpie Sep 17 2008 03:56 PM |
His website needs to be updated. Still has him as a minor leaguer. You would think his promotion would be big news on that site.
Gwreck Sep 17 2008 05:11 PM |
KABOOM
mario25 Sep 17 2008 05:13 PM |
JOSE!!!!
metirish Sep 17 2008 05:15 PM |
In case like me you were wondering why so many people in the small crowd are wearing green caps here's why.
Gwreck Sep 17 2008 05:16 PM |
KABOOM! x2

FEAST
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2008 05:22 PM |
Reyes, Church, Wright, Bletran, Delgado in the first two games of this series: 3 for 37, all singles.
Gwreck Sep 17 2008 05:29 PM |
We could really stand to win this game. Philly's batted around the in first inning and is up 4-0.
mario25 Sep 17 2008 05:31 PM |
Does anyone else but Manuel think A.Reyes is any good....I honestly would rather have Castillo if Easley is on the shelf
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2008 05:55 PM |
Knight's run should be charged to the 1st base ump.
metirish Sep 17 2008 05:55 PM |
Castillo is hurting Jerry said , needs "time to heal".....Mets up 4-1
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 05:57 PM |
Yep I'd say Beltran is on fire.
Gwreck Sep 17 2008 05:57 PM |
KABOOOOOOOM
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2008 05:57 PM |
I don't want to sound ungrateful, but damn! we could have used just one of these yesterday.
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 05:58 PM |
Beltran did yesterday! It's just Milledge was positioned on the warning track.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 05:58 PM |
That's what I'm talkin about.
mario25 Sep 17 2008 06:03 PM |
Awesome, the bats are alive!!!!
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2008 06:05 PM |
Today he wasn't playing high enough.
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 06:07 PM |
No. No. No. Too high. Too high.
TransMonk Sep 17 2008 06:25 PM |
Sorry, I'm late. Lookin' good so far...I was expecting worse.
OlerudOwned Sep 17 2008 06:29 PM |
Knight apparently pitching to the "Francouer Strike Zone" this inning.
mario25 Sep 17 2008 06:39 PM |
Church needs a night off.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 17 2008 06:57 PM |
I've been at class all night, and I confess I was a little worried jumping in to check the score.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 06:58 PM |
Anderson should get the RBI, because it wasn't a force-out double play.
TransMonk Sep 17 2008 07:10 PM |
That should be such a humorous question. I wish I could be confident in saying yes. On edit: However, the Nats young'ns trying to steal 3rd on ball 4 with 2 outs and getting thrown out helps.
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 07:16 PM |
It's rough when a team is down 6 in the fifth, gets into the bullpen, and thinks "We've got them right where we want them.".
mario25 Sep 17 2008 07:25 PM |
The Mets need to add on.....BADLY
themetfairy Sep 17 2008 07:26 PM |
If they blow this game then the fucking season is just over!
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 07:31 PM |
It's not right to feel so good about Only two runs an inning by the bullpen.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 07:33 PM |
Boomity boom boom
themetfairy Sep 17 2008 07:33 PM |
Vamos Carlos Beltran!
TransMonk Sep 17 2008 07:33 PM |
Carlos says, OK! KABOOM!
mario25 Sep 17 2008 07:35 PM |
Carlos good-Church bad
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 07:36 PM |
Church is bad. Right. Gotcha. Loud and clear.
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 07:38 PM |
Agreed.
HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 07:41 PM |
I think he's still hurt. He's tried giving it a go, but I don't think he's anywhere near 100%.
HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 07:42 PM |
Instead of Heilman, can we put 10 defensive players out there and let them hit off a tee?
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 07:45 PM |
lol
holychicken Sep 17 2008 07:48 PM |
It is incredible how a 4 run lead in the 8th is so uncomfortable.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 07:51 PM |
Anybody want to put down Church now?
TransMonk Sep 17 2008 07:52 PM |
Best defensive rightfielder I can remember in a while. SAved a run and got an out in a rally there.
mario25 Sep 17 2008 07:53 PM |
He is great in the OF and he has been really good at the plate except this last 2 weeks.
themetfairy Sep 17 2008 07:53 PM |
I saw him make two superlative catches tonight. He deserves some sips of Schaefer for that.
Fman99 Sep 17 2008 07:54 PM |
Phew.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 07:55 PM |
And Beltran nails the inning down.
mario25 Sep 17 2008 07:55 PM |
Agreed, we could still have Shawn Green out there!!!
holychicken Sep 17 2008 07:58 PM |
How close was that to making me freak out? Gamecast makes it looks like Beltran probably hit the wall catching it.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 07:59 PM |
Two steps, and then hit the wall.
HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 08:05 PM |
Fasten your seatbelts.
themetfairy Sep 17 2008 08:05 PM |
Onto the bottom of the 9th!
Fman99 Sep 17 2008 08:08 PM |
Feh. Bad throw by Wright.
HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 08:09 PM |
Ugly, lazy throw at that.
Rockin' Doc Sep 17 2008 08:09 PM |
Snap out of the funk Wright. Your team needs you down the stretch.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 08:11 PM |
A grand slam ties it.
Fman99 Sep 17 2008 08:11 PM |
Double Feh. Walk to Dukes and it's 1st, 2nd, no out.
Rockin' Doc Sep 17 2008 08:12 PM |
It seems like nothing is ever easy for this bullpen.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 17 2008 08:13 PM |
What other team can do this again and again and still be contending for a playoff slot?
Rockin' Doc Sep 17 2008 08:13 PM |
Oh yea, Feliciano is in. Please, please, please get someone out. Please!!!
metirish Sep 17 2008 08:14 PM |
WOW Delgado...
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2008 08:14 PM |
No more baserunners and the tying run can't come to the plate.
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 08:14 PM |
Delgado comes through!
HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 08:15 PM |
Nice play by Delgado. And shouldnt AndyHernandy have made that closer?
TheOldMole Sep 17 2008 08:15 PM |
Two away....
HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 08:15 PM |
And a nice pick by Feliciano to get the second out.
Fman99 Sep 17 2008 08:16 PM |
Another nice play as Pedro2 looks the runner back on the comebacker. One more out.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 17 2008 08:17 PM |
Tying run will bat.
Fman99 Sep 17 2008 08:18 PM |
Dang.

HahnSolo Sep 17 2008 08:19 PM |
Unearned runs. Thanks David.

themetfairy Sep 17 2008 08:19 PM |

No. It's much more than slightly maddening.

The elusive final out....
TransMonk Sep 17 2008 08:20 PM |
To be fair, it was a decent pitch by Feliciano that turned into a lucky hit for Nieves.

Thank God. We absolutely NEEDED this game.
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2008 08:27 PM |
I think I'm going to give all 25 pitchers we used tonight a .01 score in PoTG
mario25 Sep 17 2008 08:29 PM |
K-Rod needed badly in 2009.....
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2008 08:31 PM |

I disagree but that's an argument for another day.
mario25 Sep 17 2008 08:37 PM |
Or another stopper out there....somewhere Eddie Kunz???
Elster88 Sep 17 2008 09:11 PM |

I'd rather have 3 guys for the same amount of money. One dude isn't going to fix this mess.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 17 2008 09:14 PM |
I'd like a few swing-and-miss guys.
bmfc1 Sep 18 2008 11:11 AM |

I agree with the fact that we need three guys, but where are you going to find middle relievers you can rely on?
