Key to this game is beating up on the Nationals' rookie pitcher before they can beat up on our AAA pitcher.

I assume we put Murphy in left in the 2 hole and drop Church down.

I was thinking of dropping Church off of a building.

if you dropped him off a building on State Street, in Brooklyn, Sarah Palin would be overjoyed... apparently, she hates the separation of Church and State, so their merger would no doubt delight her.

I'm going to see her at 1 p.m. today. I'll ask her.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 17 2008 12:02 PM

Well, didn't get close enough to ask questions. I had airport duty, which means you're there as the plane arrives and talk to the official greeters and such.

Sometimes the candidate comes over and fields a few questions, but not today. McCain and Palin came in separate planes. Palin was with her husband and who I think might have been the middle daughter.

Actually, it's been kind of a cool day. Earlier in the morning I was able to spend time with the president of the Orlando Magic, who is a Grand Rapids native. He's donating money to build a middle school sports program.

As for the Mets, they'll win tonight. That lineup is too good to be that bad for that long. Plus, the Nationals pitchers are too bad to be that good for that long. I'm predicting a pounding. We'll be back in first by a half-game by the end of the night.

Murphy will save us.

There's some real smelliness at the buttend of that lineup but I guess that's what we're gonna look like from here on out.

Tonight's Nationals starter is Shairon Martis, a 21-year-old righty from Curacao. This will be his third start and the first at home. He lost 2-0 in Atlanta on September 4, and 2-1 in Florida on September 12. In both starts, he lasted exactly 5 innings. In that second start, he struck out 9 Marlins, walked 3, and gave up 2 hits.

Anderson should get the RBI, because it wasn't a force-out double play.

Will 6 runs be enough of a lead for the bullpen?

That should be such a humorous question. I wish I could be confident in saying yes.

On edit: However, the Nats young'ns trying to steal 3rd on ball 4 with 2 outs and getting thrown out helps.

Elster88
Sep 17 2008 07:16 PM

It's rough when a team is down 6 in the fifth, gets into the bullpen, and thinks "We've got them right where we want them.".
