Met/Philly skeds down the stretch

Washington x 2
Atlanta x 3
@ Wash x 4
@ Atlanta x 3
Cubs x 4
Florida x 3

[u:61aa461375]Philly[/u:61aa461375]
Florida x 3
Milwaukee x 4

- Philly has 13 home & 6 on the road compared to our 12 & 7

- Each has 6 (3/3) against the Braves

- So if we call the Brave games plus our 4 vs Cubs and their 4 vs Brewers a wash, it comes down to:
Us = 6 Washington + 3 Florida
Them = 6 Florida + 3 Washington

So slight advantage to us - and maybe slightly moreso if those late games don't matter so much to the Cubs or if Zambrano and/or Harden aren't healthy.

Of course we had a favorable schedule last year too.

Eerily similar schedule , them playing the Brewers before we play the Cubs hopefully helps us , both those teams are scuffling and the Brewers need to start winning now.

Yeah, I was thinking similarly. Depending on how the NL Central breaks, the Phillies could be playing games that are meaningful to the Brewers while the Mets, later, play games that have less meaning to the Cubs.

I think it's somewhere between optimistic and pessimistic to have the Mets win 11 of their remaining 19 games. (A .579 percentage.) If they do that, the Phillies have to go 13-6 (.684) to force a tie and 14-5 (.737) to win the division outright.

If the Mets can go 13-6, the Phillies are in real trouble. They'd need to go 15-4 (.789) to force a tie and 16-3 (.842) to win the division.

If last year taught us anything at all, it's way to early to count chickens. But the Mets can pretty much control their destiny by playing well.

They just have to do it.

The 4-game set in DC has me a little nervous.

I think all 19 games will be worrisome to some degree.

At least the Mets have done well in Nationals Park so far this year. They're 4-1, including a three-game sweep in August.

I worry about the offense taken long stretches off, not getting walks, things likum that.

I like how platooning at four positions makes us harder to scout.

that brewers/phils series has some HUGE wild card implications. that'll be a pretty crucial series, perhaps deciding which 3 teams are going from the NL central & east.

Yes, especially if the Phillies narrow the gap a little bit in the next three days. If so, they'll be in a position where a four-game sweep of the Brewers puts them in the wild card lead.

The one silver lining in what otherwise would look like a disaster is that a Philly sweep (or near sweep) of Milwaukee would improve our WC fall-back position even as it imperils our division lead.

There's no reason we can't take 8 of 12 from ATL and WAS over the next 2 weeks.

Anything less would be disappointing with the way this team has been playing.

Damn the wild card. I want the Brewers sweep the Phillies, preferably in a humiliating and demoralizing fashion.

Of course! But if the opposite happens, the dark cloud can have a silver lining.

a sweep by either team can be huge.

milwakee sweep = Philly is virtually out of it.
Philly sweep = mets better be sweeping the nats + if the mets aren't, we'll be watching the OOTS for two games.

I'd much prefer a team being eliminated, though that would probably mean we're playing the brew crew the first round.

No Sabathia for the Philly series. He goes tomorrow against the Reds.

just looking at Milwakee's probables, looks like the phils are missing Sabbathia. that's really disappointing.

It'll be:
Sheets vs Happ
Parra Vs Moyer
Bush vs Hamels
Suppan vs Blanton

just on pitching matchup alone....
game 1 brew.
game 2 phil.
game 3 phil.
game 4 brew.

There's one gut feeling I wish had been wrong.
