Yes, that's right.

Ramon Castro was activated off the DL, bringing the total active roster to 36 players. We could conceivably even hit 37 if Maine comes back before the end of the year. Your breakdown:

5 Starters (includes Niese)
13 Relievers
4 Catchers
7 Infielders
7 Infielders

I'm surprised Castro didn't pull a hammy getting activated.

That would be Alou.

Nah, Castro waits a few weeks and a few thousand double cheeseburgers first.

Got to big the biggest September roster we've ever carried, no?

When did we all turn on Castro? May not be the most conditioned athlete around, but I'm still very pro-Blastro!. There is no way Schneider and Castro shouldn't be in a straight platoon right now, look at Brian's lefty splits.

.179/.286/.179

He's slugging his batting average against lefties. That ain't good.

Does two well-earned cracks about Castro's tendency to get hurt mean "we've all turned on him?

I don't think there's a single person here who doesn't prefer him over the Schneid against lefties, and probably more than a few who prefer him against righties as well.

The only thing keeping him out of the lineup is injury-ness, not a lack of advocacy.

Just taking the piss with Castro , wish he would stay healthy is all.

I really do think he needs to lay off the fried foods. Nothing better for the back and legs then losing seventy pounds.

On the pregame show on Saturday, Jerry said that Castro wasn't quite ready to catch but they could use him as a pinch hitter.

Then you'll have to explain to me why Luis Castillo batted as the tying run in the ninth on Sunday.

Good question.

As I said in the IGT, I was expecting Easley, but at the time I wasn't aware that Damion was unavailable.

Maybe they were out of second basemen? Had Argenis Reyes appeared yet? Either way, it's not a good excuse. I'd have put up Castro and tried to tie the game, and then taken my chances in extra innings with the best second baseman I could find. (Ramon Martinez, perhaps?)

No, Reyes had not been used.

With Church up with one out and two runners on, we had the following hitters
due up against lefty Mike Gonzalez:

Church (L)
Castillo (S)
Schneider (R)
Pitcher's Spot

On the bench, we had:
Tatis (R)
Evans (R)
Castro (R)
Cancel (R)
Molina (R)
Martinez (R)
A Reyes (S)

plus Easley (unavailable).

I thought Tatis was the right choice for Church's spot, but clearly it should have been either Evans or Castro in Castillo's spot.

People don't return from "pops" quickly. I suspect Easley is done for the year.

Saw the replay when I came home, it looked like he swung at ball 4.
