Regarding Ike hitting Galveston:

"Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single family one- or two-story homes will face certain death."

Rarely are they so unambiguous.

Galveston is a city built on a sandbar
This is not going to be pretty.

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea winds blowin'
I still see her dark eyes glowin'
She was 21 when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea waves crashing
While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun and dream of Galveston

Isaac's Storm

A book I read a few years ago about a hurricane hitting Galveston.

The Isaac/Ike parallel is a bit eerie.

They've now modified it to the more ambiguous:

]ALL NEIGHBORHOODS...AND POSSIBLY ENTIRE COASTAL COMMUNITIES...
WILL BE INUNDATED DURING THE PERIOD OF PEAK STORM TIDE. PERSONS
NOT HEEDING EVACUATION ORDERS IN SINGLE FAMILY ONE OR TWO STORY
HOMES MAY FACE CERTAIN DEATH.

In other news, there's a 100% chance that the Mets may win tonight's game.

Did you like that book? I read "Thunderstruck" by him and have "Devil in the White City" in a to-read pile.

It was okay. Of his books, I've read Isaac and Devil. I read Isaac first, and found it pretty interesting. Devil, though, was more of a disappointment. I wasn't really sure why Larson was telling the particular story that he was telling. He seemed to be sensationalizing a bit too much for my tastes. I don't know if I'll read him again, unless I find one of his books on the $1 table and buy on impulse.
