Why is it a Reyesy night?

]Why is it a Reyesy night?

Just hoping base hits and stolen bases and runs rain over Atlanta from the leadoff spot.

Brewers are in a complete freefall.

Sep 20 2008 05:19 PM

So much for the no hitter....

Valadius
Sep 20 2008 05:23 PM

Why are we still throwing Pedro out there? Why? The man has a 5 and a half ERA. We're trying to make the playoffs. What's it gonna take? Do we have to watch his ERA go above 6?

SteveJRogers
Sep 20 2008 05:31 PM

Gary once again stating the myth that Beltran wouldn't be here if not for Pedro. Yeah, all that cash and years had NOTHING to do with it.

Sep 20 2008 05:32 PM

Pedro really has nothing left , it's hard reconciling this Pedro with the brilliance of ten years ago.

Valadius
Sep 20 2008 05:35 PM

I will be furious if this isn't Pedro's last start this year barring a Philly free-fall. What's more important - making the playoffs or not hurting Pedro's feelings?

SteveJRogers
Sep 20 2008 05:36 PM

I like Ron's idea of getting Parnell in the game.

KC
Sep 20 2008 05:36 PM

If the Mets make the playoffs, he really can't start a game.

Bullpen perhaps, or just cut bait?

Do the Mets have the balls to do either?

Sep 20 2008 05:39 PM

Who starts your game potential game four in the LCS?

right now its pretty set that you go Santana-Pelfrey-Perez-Santana-Pelfrey in a LDS, but are you desperate enough to try a 3-man rotation in the LCS given the state of the Mets bullpen? or do you have to throw Pedro out there? do you want to see Knight pitch? (i'm pretty sure Niese isn't postseason eligible)

Benjamin Grimm
Sep 20 2008 05:41 PM

Niese can be added to the post-season roster to replace a disabled player, like Maine.

I don't want to see Pedro get anymore starts either, but there aren't a lot of alternatives.

I do like the idea of Parnell in tonight's game as a long man, if necessary.

KC
Sep 20 2008 05:59 PM

I'm not speaking out of desperation, Ny83, I'm just saying I have no con-
fidence in Pedro anymore whatsoever.

Do you? Would you like to see him pitch in the playoffs? Answer without the
the courtroom, video game, and fantasy stats thing just once.

I love the guy and I wouldn't want him starting again this season , or in the playoffs.

I disagree. Sure, the cash was a huge part. But Pedro coming here was huge and showed the club was was ready to turn around.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 06:11 PM

Pedro escaped that one. Now let's get the offense in gear!

How come this week we are making stinky pitchers look like studs?

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 06:29 PM

Fish and Phils tied at two in the fifth. We need this one. Let's get some hits!

Sep 20 2008 06:35 PM

Jerry is a genius.

KC
Sep 20 2008 06:36 PM

Of course we could use Pedro's bat in the playoffs!!!

Sep 20 2008 06:36 PM

How about that!

Pedro! Just like last night, the guys who needed redemption got it!

Valadius
Sep 20 2008 06:41 PM

Where is Zvon? I'd love to see a picture of Jerry Manuel with the word "Genius" over it.

Pedro does it again!

KC
Sep 20 2008 06:42 PM

Pedro flashing leather too!

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 06:50 PM

Wright, Delgado and Beltran are gonna get us even right here!

TheOldMole
Sep 20 2008 06:51 PM

The kid stays in the picture.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 06:51 PM

Two bags from David!

Gwreck
Sep 20 2008 06:59 PM

...and then nothing from Delgado or Beltran.

Offense needs to wake up.

KC
Sep 20 2008 07:03 PM

Pedro is getting squeezed by Blue.

themetfairy
Sep 20 2008 07:07 PM

And the bad call at second leads to an Atlanta run.

Gwreck
Sep 20 2008 07:10 PM

Eh. Had the umps correctly called Anderson safe at first in the 2nd, the Braves would have had that same run there.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 07:12 PM

Church just as not been the same.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 07:14 PM

Phils are up by one. We need this.

KC
Sep 20 2008 07:17 PM

Weak AB by Castro.

bmfc1
Sep 20 2008 07:20 PM

I can't believe that Marlon is under contract for another year.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 07:26 PM

Hey, was that really Scott Schoenweis? Nice inning.

Gwreck
Sep 20 2008 07:26 PM

Mets offense: Unite and Assemble!

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 07:34 PM

Dammit.

Gwreck
Sep 20 2008 07:39 PM

Marlins are threatening -- LoDuca just worked a pinch-hit walk to put 1st and 2nd with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th.

That's a good thing, too -- because without any offense to speak of for the Mets tonight, it'll be tough for them to win.

Sep 20 2008 07:39 PM

See all those young girls in blue doing the chop?......fucking lame .

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 07:43 PM

I like Parnell!

Let's get it done right here!

Gwreck
Sep 20 2008 07:45 PM

This was the ONE time where Delgado NEEDED to bunt for a hit against the shift.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 20 2008 07:50 PM

Aw, heck. Let's go Fish.

Gwreck
Sep 20 2008 07:53 PM

Can't win if we don't hit.

Church looks terrible and needs a day off; I really want to see Endy get the start tomorrow.

bmfc1
Sep 20 2008 08:00 PM

Geez--bad call by CB Bucknor on a play at the plate that would have tied the score.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Sep 20 2008 08:04 PM

Bad loss. We seem to have zero CAHfidence and even less game when Pedro goes out there.

Adam Rubin of the Daily News reported this:

"Unprovoked, he brought up to reporters in postgame remarks his willingness to work in relief this October if the Mets wish."

I don't know, and maybe I'm making too much of that, but to me if this
team first mentality is where Pedro is right now I love him more than ever.

Know what ya got and roll with it.

A Boy Named Seo

I (heart) Pedro, too, but him in the pen sounds like kind of a bad idea. I know he doesn't have to hold back or whatever, but it's the first inning that's killing him this year.

2 things I didn't get yesterday watching Pedro:

1- why doesn't he stretch it out more in his bullpen session before each start? Throw an extra 15 pitches at 100% right at the end so he's "warmer". Maybe he has. I don't know.

2- he works too high in the zone way, way too often. Every target Schnide put for him was right at the knees and it seems like every pitch, Schneider's glove would drift up 6 or more inches to catch it. When you're throwing like 82 at the belt, what the hell does anyone expect'll happen? When he kept his pitches down, he got along way better.

Darling pointed out in the first inning that Pedro's arm slot was lower and I totally agreed. That made me wonder if he was hurting some and trying to find an angle that hurt less.

I'm sure FK will yell at me for bringing up yet another dead horse to use as a predetermined premise to this post, but if only Glavine had done what Pedro is doing right now.

True who the heck could the Mets have put in Glavine's spot in the rotation, and having Santana now gives the Mets more wiggle room rotation wise, but still; it is nice to see Pedro step up and acknowledge that he isn't quite helping the team every fifth day.

Why bring something up if you know that it's a dead horse?

And the difference between Glavine's disaffection and Pedro's 1) public acknowledgment that he's not what he used to be; and 2) his empathy with the fans cause the fans to perceive the two of them very differently.

SteveJRogers
Sep 21 2008 12:28 PM

I felt the need to trash Glavine in comparison to Pedro. I was saying that I'd know I'd get flogged for flogging a horse that died a year ago.
