Well the Mets have been the opposite of their usual "leave men on base" ways tonight, they have 5 runs on only 2 hits. Walks Kill.

Rockin' Doc Sep 24 2008 07:38 PM |

That's looza talk. Delgado found a hole on hole-less right side.

OK bullpen, you can make up for a lot with a big inning here.

Elster88 Sep 24 2008 08:26 PM |
I thought Gary was going nuts for no reason. That's a good hold there with Delgado running now that they show the replay.

On ESPN, Sutcliffe is explaining that the Mets should have known every pitcher that the Chicago pitcher was throwing because of the way the catcher was setting up and that if the Mets couldn't figure it out, "shame on them." Anything about this on SNY?
|
Elster88 Sep 24 2008 08:31 PM |
I guess if your name is Cedeno you have to be an asshole and dive into first.

No. I also don't put a lot of stock into what Surcliffe says.
|
Elster88 Sep 24 2008 08:34 PM |

bmfc1 Sep 24 2008 08:35 PM |
Elster88: If the catcher slid to one side or the other, it was a fastball. If he dropped down, it was a breaking ball.
|
HahnSolo Sep 24 2008 08:36 PM |
John Maine up in the pen!!!!

Elster88 Sep 24 2008 08:36 PM |

TheOldMole Sep 24 2008 08:36 PM |

metsguyinmichigan Sep 24 2008 08:37 PM |
These are the three guys I want up in this situation.
|
Rockin' Doc Sep 24 2008 08:37 PM |
I'm not a fan of Sutcliffe's announcing, but in this instance he was right. The Cubs catcher set up differently for a fastball than he did for a breaking ball every single pitch that inning. Jose could likely pick that up out of the corner of his eye or Beltran could likely signal in from second.
|
mario25 Sep 24 2008 08:37 PM |
No were gonna win it here

Zvon Sep 24 2008 08:50 PM |
SHIT CASTRO!
|
HahnSolo Sep 24 2008 08:51 PM |
This is just horrendous. You only get so many opportunities. And this bullpen is only going to hold the Cubs down for so long.
|
mario25 Sep 24 2008 08:52 PM |
Castro swung at 2 balls, Wright swung at ball 4 sickening

6th crucial strike out swinging by the Mets in the last 3 innings.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 24 2008 08:53 PM |
7th inning: 1st & 3rd, 1 out = 0 runs
|
Zvon Sep 24 2008 08:53 PM |
Two from Ayala?

Nymr the Mets need you. If you leave now you can't call yourself a diehard anymore. You're dying soft.
|
metsguyinmichigan Sep 24 2008 08:55 PM |

Running catch reaching out for Martinez. Um. Wow.
|
mario25 Sep 24 2008 08:55 PM |
Martinez with the nifty grab in short RF
|
Zvon Sep 24 2008 08:55 PM |
|
Whats more shocking is: 9th inning: man on third, no out.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 24 2008 08:55 PM |
Ramon Martinez has been a great player ever since he's been a Met.
|
TheOldMole Sep 24 2008 08:55 PM |
Martinez earning his keep.

Ramon Hernandez looks like a fully testicled Mike Lowell.
|
metsguyinmichigan Sep 24 2008 08:57 PM |
Suttcliff should just put his Cub hat on.

Excellent. This is you:

Rockin' Doc Sep 24 2008 08:57 PM |

7th inning - 3 strike outs. 8th inning - 1 strike out. 9th inning - 2 strike outs. Some contact would be most helpful. You have to force the defense to make some plays.
|
Nymr83 Sep 24 2008 08:58 PM |
I wish I had muscles like that. And I'd never smoke.
|
HahnSolo Sep 24 2008 08:59 PM |
Two out single and SB.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 24 2008 08:59 PM |
7th inning was the line-out DP inning actually, but I get your point.
|
themetfairy Sep 24 2008 09:00 PM |
Fuck!

|
Nymr83 Sep 24 2008 09:02 PM |
the Cubs are winning. the Mets are collapsing. A loss would mean a wild card tie with 4 to play
|
mario25 Sep 24 2008 09:02 PM |
crap hit...off the end of the bat
|
bmfc1 Sep 24 2008 09:03 PM |

Why couldn't we get a bullspit hit last inning? Wright, Church, Castro. Crap.
|
metsguyinmichigan Sep 24 2008 09:03 PM |
Can't blame the pen for this crap.
|
HahnSolo Sep 24 2008 09:03 PM |
And the Philllies dropped two in a row to the Braves. It was all right there for them.

holychicken Sep 24 2008 09:04 PM |
The number of times the Mets have ripped my heart out recently is beyond incredible.

It was all there--a g.d., motherf'in flyball by Wright or Church, and we're dancing off to sleep, dreaming of being tied for first by this time tomorrow. The Cubs said "here, take it" and they couldn't. Wright froze and everybody else did NOTHING. We may be seeing this game in our minds all winter.

mario25 Sep 24 2008 09:22 PM |
I feel for myself and all of the diehard Mets fans on this site that go through this BS.......It can never be easy. Even in 86 we had to win on a freakin fluke and the Mets were dominant that year. I know how you guys feel
