Facing Harden tonight, who's great while he's in there but throws as many pitches as Ollie getting through 5 and rarely last much longer. Plus Lou has no incentive to push him any longer.

I half-expected an Endy for Church switch.

I may have to change Ramon Martinez's nickname from Afterthought. I swear when he came up last night, it was the first I remembered his being on the team since he did such a swell job pinch-running last week.

Must we do this? Instead of playing baseball, can't the Mets and the Cubs all go to the mall together and have a nice dinner in the food court?

Argenis Reyes gets his first hit in about five weeks and the next day he's booted from the lineup. He must be wondering, "What more do they want from me?"

I wish I could just ignore it. Why can't I just ignore it? I just want to stop paying attention. That's all. Why won't I let myself do that? Do I have some kind of problem? Is it multiple problems?

I don't know if the chain or the mall still exist, but when the phrase food court comes up, I think of Taco Viva at the 163rd Street Mall in Miami Beach.

Benjamin Grimm
Sep 25 2008 02:39 PM

I won't be able to ignore it as much as I'd like to. I'll be checking in on the score but I'm NOT going to sit and watch this game. An inning or two at most, but that's IT.

I'll be at middle school back to school night tonight. The one thing in this world that's possibly more tortuous than the Mets.

2 hour Survivor Premiere. Plus I think we get a new Office as well.

You know, in case you're looking for other alternatives.

bmfc1
Sep 25 2008 03:53 PM

Cancel (not Castro) replaces Schneider in the lineup. See the revised first post. No Derrek Lee. No Alfonso Soriano. No Aramis Ramirez.

KC
Sep 25 2008 04:19 PM

I'm gonna watch, watch parts of the Brewers game too I imagine.

I'm not on the Survivor boat, I'm on the Mets boat -- and I have multiple pro-
blems -- but the Mets aren't one of them.

Win quick, the rain's coming and so is a doubleheader somewhere down the
line so I'd really like to not see the pen. Actually, you'll all see through that
because none of us want to see the pen.

Met fairy, it is quite obvious to me that you have never been to either a dance recital or a elementary school Christmas program.

If the Mets continue to lose out the season, I will comfort myself with the thought that neither of those events will ever take up any of my time again.

Small comfort, I know.

It's cool that Church gets a gift there. He needed it in the worst way.

I was just thinking how appropriate his theme song applies:

Mental wounds not healing

Feliciano gives up a seeing-eye single and here comes the signal for Smith. No more LHPs left anymore.

Isn't three feet the rule? I think the rule is that the runner establishes a line as he runs and then can't deviate from that line by more than 3 feet. But that might be dated information.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 25 2008 08:51 PM

It would take an umpire with huge stones to have called him out for that.

Frayed Knot
Sep 25 2008 08:53 PM

Elster's answer is pretty much on target.
Because you're coming towards home somewhat from the direction of the dugout rather than 3rd base that is your line and Church's dodge around the catcher was barely off from that.
The fact that he ran past it and then came back to slap the base isn't a problem.

Yeah, and it wasn't terribly blatant.

And Elster, you don't have to avi stuff. We all know you're a meanie with
a type-delayed conscience lol.

OE: didn't read FK's post

I think it actually would've been the wrong call by the rules in this case. Not that that ever stopped Angel either.

I get to sleep well tonight. Thank you for throwing me this little bone, my dearest Mets. Until you next break my heart, au revoir!

According to the official rules of MLB:

7.08 Any runner is out when—
(a) (1) He runs more than three feet away from his baseline to avoid being tagged unless his action is to avoid interference with a fielder fielding a batted ball. A runner’s baseline is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely...

I'd say Elster is correct in his interpretation.

All I can say is thank you [insert deity of choice]!

That and I'm glad to be home and dry.

Pedro did a point/wave to both sides of the stadium. I think he was aware that it could be his last start, ever.

I was thinking that both Cancel and Martinez should have been hit for. Guess not.

I also thought that Aguayo was an idiot for sending Church and was screaming "nooooo!" even before Church's great side.

Bunting is for losers and I agree that Jose could've just stolen that base himself. No need to bunt with Murphy up there. Hell, if we *really* needed to bunt, he should've just put Endy up.

Risk/reward ratio sure seemed more in our favor by just sending Reyes -- or hit-and-running.

And, um, Ricardo Rincon? What's that about?

Just how deep and dark a doghouse is Aaron Heilman in right now?

I didn't even think of him. I like him and feel bad.

He got only one of the pen's 15 2/3 innings this series.
