Don't Expect To See John Maine

During the game last night or maybe it was the night before they showed Maine sitting in the bullpen yakking with Smith , Gary wondered if we would see him in that nights game. I thought to myself things are more than desperate if they bring him in for some key outs.

Manuel last night seemed to have put paid to any thoughts of Maine pitching again this season.

Despite the medical people telling him that Maine pitching would not cause additional harm to his shoulder Manuel doesn't want to risk it for Maine's sake and indicated that Maine would not get in any games.

"I just don't like anybody pitching young with anything," Manuel said. "That's just my hang-up. It's nobody's hang-up but mine."

"Let me put that this way, I think that John Maine worked so hard to come back and be a part of this. For me, the reward is to activate him. Now, how I use him might be questionable."

As with the talk of (name here) on 3 days rest, I'll believe it when I don't see it.

If there is no chance of him being used, he should have had his surgery THREE WEEKS AGO!

Sometimes, I wonder what the fuck is the problem with the Mets and their medical staff.

If he'll be fully recovered from the surgery either way in time for spring training, then the three-week delay doesn't matter. I don't know if that's the case, though.

that's a reward? to raise his hopes up of being used, and then crushing him by not using him?

Maine said there is no doubt he will be ready for spring training.

regarding Manuel not using him.

"That's what he said to me, too," said Maine, who still feels pain from the bone spur in his right shoulder. "He's the manager. It's a tough situation for him. Just because I'm activated doesn't mean I can go out there.

Two different things here.
One is a medical opinion, the other a managerial decision.

John Maine, pinch-running for Ramon Castro this weekend at a theater near you.

That's a fair point. Just like with Church, the medical staff and the baseball staff (ie. Jerry) can't seem to get on the same page

it's also MAINE's decision, you can't force a guy to go under the knife if he doesn't want to.
