I'm Green

I am proud to announce that for the first time in probably ten years, the recycling man stopped at our house today. We signed up to have our stuff picked up instead of throwing it out or randomly taking it to the drop off site.

He left us three extra boxes; I guess we drink a lot.

Great for you , when I lived upstate NY(Westchester county) I had two green recycling bins that they took once a week. In the Bronx I just put it in separate clear bags.

In our city, the city issues everyone a large trash container and a recycling bin. The city runs three different trucks during weekly curbside pickup. One is for household trash, on is for recyclables, and the last one is for lawn waste.

It works well and recycling has just been a normal partof our daily routine for the past 20+ years. It is so second nature to me that it bothers me to travel and visit other communities where bottles, cans, and newspapers are simply thrown in with the garbage for disposal.

Our county picks up recyclables every other week. The green can is for paper, the yellow can is for cans and bottles.

And I thought times were tough when my hometown anounced that you could burn trash in your back yard barrel on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. Nobody hung clothes out to dry on those days.
