I thought he beat his wife not his kid? I distinctly remember when he was a Ranger the fans at yankee stadium chanting "beat your wife Everett, beat your wife" (sadly i'm not kidding.)

Actually it was the wife who beat the kid. Everett had 3 kids the oldest of which was his but not hers. So wifey apparently was mistreating that kid and one of the other Met wives noticed the marks. Everett is still playing with the Long Island Ducks.
