Woke up with Chris DeBurgh 's Don't Pay the Ferryman in my head. 11 hours later and I can't shake it. I'm going mad.

WOW , I have not thought about that song in years.....that album was played to death in our Youth Club...obviously I had no say in the music....and the video was on heavy rotation on Irish TV...good song, brings back memories.

In the aftermath of Live Aid, with Bob Geldof getting a lot of (relatively unfair) criticism that his interest wasn't with his own highly depressed country, a "Live for Ireland" concert took place, with all Irish acts --- headlined by U2 of course --- and the odd Celto-English act like the Pogues. In Tua Nua, Christy Moore, Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, and of course Chris DeBurgh, singing a modest US hit "Don't Pay the Ferrryman."

Well the joke was on me when I heard the recording. Apparently the Irish loved that song more than anything else --- passionately screaming the backup parts to the otherwise light arrangement.

I later learned that there were few enough radio stations in Ireland at the time that, when a song hit number one, it hit number one, and everybody from 5 to 95 would be singing it.
