Making a Difference

My grandson, Arick (8) and his friend Sirina (11) started an organization this summer -- to promote seat belt safety. I helped them set up a website (www.sitclickdrive.org) where, should you be interested, you can read about the organization and what they've done.

Anyway, this Saturday was Make a Difference Day in Saugerties. Arick and Sirina had a Sit Click Drive booth -- Sue (Arick's mom) and I helped out. There were booths for organizations that were committed to making a difference, entertainment, and the giving out of awards to kids who've made a difference in the community this year.

All the other booths were big organizations -- Planned Parenthood, SPCA, gymnastics and martial arts schools, the Sheriff's department, and so forth...and these two little kids and their home grown organization.

We knew that Arick was going to get two Make a Difference Awards. One for the Sit Click Drive seat belt safety work, and one for going to entertain old people in a nursing home with his martial arts school.

But what we didn't realize was that he and Sirina were going to get the major award of the day. The Mayor made this big speech about Sit Click Drive, and how Arick and Sirina had started it, and the whole history of the organization, and what a difference these two kids had made. Then he called them up to get their plaques.

I can't begin to tell you how proud we were.

And the whole awards presentation was wonderful -- great to see and hear about kids who are making a difference. I'll post pictures later.

You have good reason to be proud, mole. Keep up the good work, Arick and Sirina.

He looks like such an old soul in a young body. You can see his intelligence in his eyes.

He's looking for a weakness to exploit.
