ELM ST is a clever little horror film, with a lot more on its mind than it would otherwise appear.

There are a hundred great quotes from that movie.

That's very true. However, I think that actually adds to its rewatchability. Whenever it's on (which is often), I normally make sure I watch the Aretha Franklin part and the car chase through the mall, and before I know it, I've watched the whole thing. Four fried chickens and a coke.

totally. it's a series of set-pieces, so you can pick it up at any point and get some entertainment. Aretha, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway, and the BBs themselves all give highly entertaining performances; and car crashes this excessive are always fun.

i don't know why that's a defining criteria, but ok, here's 2: - Freddie: "I'm your boyfriend now, Nancy!" - "One, two, Freddy's coming for you. / Three, four, better lock your door. / Five, six, grab your crucifix. / Seven, eight, better stay awake. / Nine, ten, never sleep again..."

I don't know if I saw "Nightmare" or not. I remember my friends all liked those kinds of movies, so I went along to a few of them, but those Jason/Freddy etc. movies are all a blur to me now, and probably were then.

it would be wrong to vote against The Blues Brothers, because not only is a great film, but a Crane Pooler was instrumental in it being made.

As between these two, I'm going with the Blues Brothers.

"It's 200 miles to Chicago, we've got half a tank of gas, two packs of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses."

It's a no-brainer.

Yeah, but the thing about Nightmare was that it was better than "those kinds of movies" -- terrible marketing and sequel pile-ons diluted the franchise to a point where Freddy was indistinguishable from Jason, but this first movie was clever, had a good plot, wasn't so stupid, etc etc. And it really scared ya!

I always liked Jason movies better, but that might have been because we thought there was a better chance of seeing some skin.

Of all the movies you guys have put up for vote the past week or so, Blues Brothers is the only one I would bother to watch again, even all these years later.
