Mets re-up with WFAN

The prior agreement had run out at the end of the year and there was thought that changes might be on their way.

But it's not. And although the length of the deal is apparently still a state secret the place to find your Mets on the radio in the foreseeable future will remain unchanged from where it's been for over 20 years.

That's good. Not that I have any love for WFAN, but I do like their strong signal. As someone who lives 72 miles (as the crow flies) from the Empire State Building, I want the Mets on an AM station with a strong signal.

(If you're curious how far you are from the Empire State Building, or any other place on earth, find the latitude/longitude coordinates of both locations here: http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm and then plug the locations into the online form here: http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html )

Yes, good news.

I've asked this question before, by the way: The Mets games are broadcast on the "WFAN Mets Radio Network" meaning, I'm pretty sure, that smaller stations can tag along for the game broadcasts. And though I've picked up Mets games before on local stations, like upstate, nowhere can I find a lst of those local stations.

Anyone have one? It's be a nice thing to print out and keep in my glovebox.

I ranted about that for years.

You'd think they'd want to advertise their radio partners rather than keep the list a state secret.

My guess is that it's still just WFAN, WADO, and a couple of upstate towers that relay and boost WFAN's signal.

I just Googled "Mets radio network" and found a 2007 page that listed these three stations:

* WFAN 660
* WADO 1280 Spanish
* WOFX 980

That's hardly a network.

No wonder they're too ashamed to list it.

Good news , the few times I have tuned to ESPN radio for Rangers games the reception even in the Bronx was not as good as the FAN.

I think some of us probably remember a nice long list of stations that were
part of the "radio network" but I think that all went unnecessary when the
team was on a clear channel station at 50,000 watts.

I'm getting vuja de here, we've covered this haven't we?

MLB.com's internet broadcasts probably had something to do with all teams' radio networks shrinking.

As well as the deal with XM, or now SiriusXM.

BTW, anyone know when the deal with WPIX/WB/CW/Whatever we are calling ourselves this year 11 is up?

That was the fear factor, that 1050 would be the fall-back position and their signal is MUCH weaker than that of 660.

Or, if not 1050, they and the Yanx might have switched stations since both 660 & 880 are owned by the same conglomerate. But since CBS-880 is an all-news station the pre & post-game deals are more likely to get the bum's rush so they can get back to their regular programming as quickly as possiible.

I have XM so I do get the nice clear feed of Mets games in the vehicle.

Though I can get WFAN pretty well on a clear night, after sunset, even up here in Syracuse (328 KM as the crow flies as per the links that BG listed above).

Ron Darling is the guest host today with Francesa , anyone tune in to listen?

Neil Best today said that Joe Benigno is the favorite to land the job with Francesa full time.
