From the '42' thread...

Once I know my way around Citi, I'm sure I will be using the rotunda entrance less and less.

I've been thinking a lot about this.

We've all been going to Shea for years and we all have our favorite routes, entrances and exits (to the stadium, to the parking lot, to the subway). I wonder how long it will take me to feel as acclimated and comfortable in the new place.

Subway not so much because what's really changed there? The round platform being gone was a shock and that's too bad but whatever.

I usually drive, enter and park in a spot that makes it incredibly easy to exit and not get caught in traffic. Will that entry and exit, let alone parking spot, still be there next year? Willl there be a better one? Will I be able to find it?

What willl be the best entrance to the stadium to get to my seats? Which restaurant might actually be good enough to make it worth my while to actually have dinner before the game? The Shake Shack has promise.

I'm sure we all take some pride in the fact that we have been Mets fans for so long and know the place so well. Now all of a sudden we're on the same footing as the 'casuals'. It's irritating but kind of exciting in that we get to explore and get to know a new place.

I think its going to be really odd for at least the entire first season.

Since I no longer live in New York, I'll never know Citi Field the way I knew Shea. At most I'll go there 2 or 3 times a year. Back in the 80's, at my peak, I'd go to around 25 games per year.

The analogy I make is to when I first got a place of my own. When I'd go to visit my parents, I'd still feel like I was going home. But they've since moved out of the house where I grew up. Now when I go to visit them, I'm in a comfortable and familiar place, but it doesn't have that feeling of home to me. I think I'll have the same feeling about Citi Field.

I find that the parking area in back of left field at Citi has been good for me, both for finding spaces and getting out (despite only one exit). I've parked there about 8 times since the Citi construction started. Should I continue to park there I am sure I will find a different entrance rather than the Rotunda to use.

That's where I used to always park - it seemed like I had no problems getting out the gate by the circle (which is no longer there)

I would park by the gate out past Gate E. (I can't relate to Citi Field references, at least not yet.) It's at the corner where the block with the chop shops meets the underpass, out near Flushing Bay. After leaving the lot, I'd make a right on, I think, Northern Blvd., then a left on Main Street in Flushing, and then from there I'd take the LIE home to Long Island.

Later on, I'd skip the parking lot entirely and just park under the overpass.

Now, coming from Pennsylvania, I've been leaving the car in Manhattan and I either take the 7 from Grand Central or the LIRR from Penn Station.

Maybe, once Shea is gone and the parking lot is bigger again, I'll consider driving all the way into Queens. But the Manhattan thing has been working pretty well.
