I have always hated this holiday.

It's confusing to kids: "Don't take candy from strangers, except on 31 October, when you can have anything anyone offers."

It's extortionate.

It ran counter to my family's blue-collar machismo of never accepting handouts.

It's an excuse for violence.. Maybe the 'burbs got tp'd houses and egg splatter, we had flour socks loaded with cue balls and busted windshields.

My daughters are cute in thier costumes, though!

I have always loved Halloween.

Free chocolate. 'Nuff said.

I have a little Halloween headband to wear tomorrow. That's the extent of the dressing up I plan on doing.

We did the 'weenie thing dressed as the Baseball Furies from the Warriors. All good parents dress 2-year-olds as a face-painted gangbangers.

Lorcan went to Day Care in a Zebra costume , looked very cool. Pictures to come.

For work, i dress up as someone who gives a shit. Its the same costume i wear every day.

for after work today, i'll do my usual "Al Borland"... flannel shirt, carpenter jeans, toolbelt, and a name tag that says: "you can call me Al".

I get to walk around with a hammer and demand candy.

I love this holiday.

Funny, I'm going as Toby Borland.

That's great , were you at a parade?

Edgy DC

Every day is a parade with the Lunchbuckets, standing in the street like that and all.

Apparently, the judges awarded them a million points that day.

If he was at the Phillies parade, we'll have to get out our pitchtorches and forks.

Scene: Target, early last month.

Me: Okay, buddy, which costume do you want this year?
MiniWolf (points to Scooby Doo costume): Dooby dooby doo!
Me (checking the $50 price tag): How about something else?
MiniWolf (points to Abby Cadabby costume): Abby!
Me: How about something slightly more gender-appropriate?
MiniWolf: Elmo!
Me (checks $20 price tag): Done!

Exeunt.

The Elmo image isn't coming through.

I think the rest of us didn't want to say anything, lest they turn out to be teenagers or something.

Yup. That was actually one of those write-it-then-delete-it-before-I-hit-submit posts.

Eggzelent.

I always wonder about people crying about the end of Sesame Street when there's a threat to the public television budget. Doesn't Children's Televison Workshop have the most enduring merchandise licenses out there?

Those two girls are in their twenties , the second one has a kid herself. I should say they are both wonderful and our son likes them a lot.
