Starting to get the wheels rolling for our annual off-season parody challenge. If you're in, please post here so I can add you to the list and start to figure out seeding.

I liked it in previous years, when the players were able to choose from the list they indirectly selected, and the list contained ONLY PLAYERS.
Edgy MD Nov 03 2008 07:35 AM |
I support that rule too. It's a rule I made up.

Stress? Angst? You think this is American Idol or something? ;) BTW, I am IN. This is the year I finally break 500. I have spent all off-off-season writing songs for every person to ever have played for the Mets.

I propose each entrant be assigned a given Mets team and must compose that season's "Let's Get Metsmerized". Chicken is obviously ready for anything between '96 and '02.
themetfairy Nov 03 2008 11:44 AM |
Actually, that would be a cool tiebreaker.
SteveJRogers Nov 03 2008 02:32 PM |

Zvon Nov 03 2008 02:42 PM |
I'll givERaGO.

themetfairy Nov 03 2008 02:43 PM |
Yea! That means we'll have you around more this offseason :)
seawolf17 Nov 03 2008 02:49 PM |
I love the "Metsmerized" tiebreaker idea. As Parody Czar, I'm implementing it. And we'll go back to the Top 500 Mets, five per person. Should we include coaches and managers, or just players?

themetfairy Nov 03 2008 02:58 PM |
I'm happy that the tiebreaker idea appeals to you, my Czar I wouldn't want to include coaches - that's a little too esoteric, IMO. If we were to include managers, what if we limit it to the top ten? Just to give everyone a shot at getting a parody-worthy skipper.
Rockin' Doc Nov 03 2008 03:31 PM |
I have come to the conclusion that the parody contest is far more enjoyable as a spectator than it is as a competitor. I look forward to reading everyone's submissions, but I don't intend to participate this year. I guess I've become lazy in my later years.
seawolf17 Nov 03 2008 05:20 PM |
That's 18 competitors so far. We'll let this sit out there for a few days and I'll start figuring out seeding and set up the brackets and the random list.
seawolf17 Nov 03 2008 06:07 PM |
At first glance...
Gwreck Nov 04 2008 09:09 AM |
Yeah, sorry, I'm out this year.
Fman99 Nov 04 2008 02:00 PM |
Let's rock then. Do I have to play-in again this year? Or has that not yet been determined?
seawolf17 Nov 04 2008 02:08 PM |
Let's hold off until we see if we can grab another pair of folks.
Edgy MD Nov 04 2008 02:17 PM |
I think we should ask our resident bloggers to announce this in their blogs and see if it brings in any new members.
themetfairy Nov 04 2008 02:33 PM |
I'm up for anything. But, if we're voting, I think I'd prefer the established single elimination format.
Fman99 Nov 04 2008 07:02 PM |
No I prefer one and done and head off to the loser lounge, for those delicious shrimp cocktails.
Willets Point Nov 04 2008 07:11 PM |
First round could be done in group play. Six groups of 3 contestants each with a round robin in the group. Only the top two from each group advance to the next round. The tie-breaker would be the percentage of cumulative votes. Or it could be less complicated. I just like the idea of everyone getting two shots before they're expelled.
Edgy MD Nov 05 2008 07:57 AM |
The bracketmaker site has a lot of double-e options.

Nope. Its the difference between wanting to play AL or NL baseball - different skill sets and different kinds of players. I just want to know which game is being played. And the question still hasn't been answered, so please don't include me on the list until it has been. Let the "host" answer. After all, it is his game. EDIT: On second thought, count me out. It looks like it will be more fun to stand on the sidelines and score the entries using the same standards to which I held my own entries. (I posted them last year) Later
seawolf17 Nov 05 2008 06:10 PM |
Then we'll need a new 18th player.
sharpie Nov 06 2008 01:46 PM |
You don't necessarily need an 18th. You could have a play-in between 16 and 17.
seawolf17 Nov 06 2008 02:10 PM |
True. Looks like that's the way it's leaning.
Zvon Nov 11 2008 01:08 PM |
If you can't get an 18th, to make it a smooth 16 I'll withdraw from the contest.
themetfairy Nov 11 2008 01:20 PM |
I'd rather endure a play-in round than see Zvon drop out.

LOL. I saw that I was ranked ahead of you and I thought "man, how did they find out about my strict off-season training regiment?" I even changed my diet for this!
seawolf17 Nov 12 2008 11:21 AM |
I thought I went off last year's seedings/bracket. Did I mess something up?
Edgy MD Nov 12 2008 11:27 AM |
I don't know your technique, but I'm a former champ, tend to lose (when I lose) to eventual champs, tend to win first round matchups.
seawolf17 Nov 12 2008 11:34 AM |
I took last year's seeds and wiggled 'em based on how everyone performed last year.
seawolf17 Nov 12 2008 11:36 AM |
Also - I'm assuming these are current lists?

You know, for some reason I didn't think you were in it last year, so I just added you to the bottom of the seeding and somehow missed you when I went through the list. My bad.

Thatsa good, because mine had some data discrepancies that I was wasting good time trying to clear up.
seawolf17 Nov 18 2008 10:21 AM |

We'll give 'em one more day to check in, and I'll have your players listed here by tomorrow night.
holychicken Nov 20 2008 01:47 PM |
Did we decide last year that trying to do this during the holidays was a bad idea because of everyone coming and going at odd times?
sharpie Nov 20 2008 01:50 PM |
I can't imagine that we'll get much past the first round before Christmas. But since the first round invariably takes a while then having it done in December makes sense. We certainly won't have any til after Thanksgiving.
themetfairy Nov 20 2008 02:01 PM |
I'm in a play-in round, and I'm good for getting that round out of the way as soon as possible.
seawolf17 Nov 20 2008 02:16 PM |
We'll start the first round right after Thanksgiving, and then go from there. If we wait until January for the rest, that's fine.
themetfairy Nov 20 2008 02:39 PM |
Is the first round the play-in round? Or can we have a play-in round before Thanksgiving if both parties consent?
Centerfield Nov 20 2008 03:17 PM |
And I thought the baseball post-season had too many breaks. Let's get on with this. I want to see some parodyin'...
TheOldMole Nov 22 2008 03:54 PM |
Did I miss something? Looking in the wrong place? I don't see any players assigned.
Edgy MD Nov 22 2008 04:47 PM |
Problem with the play-in is that the survivor of the play in --- or whoever beats him or her --- advances with more players in their satchel, having survived a further round.
Valadius Nov 22 2008 05:55 PM |
27
seawolf17 Nov 22 2008 05:57 PM |
Not if we just eliminate the loser's players entirely, or if we assign a tiebreaker-style setup for the play-ins and just assign a topic for both posters.
themetfairy Nov 22 2008 07:19 PM |
As someone with a play-in round, I'd prefer not to have an assigned topic for what could be my only matchup. I'd rather pick a 6th number, or just figure that the play-in round winners have an extra opportunity to pick up defeated opponents' players.
Willets Point Nov 22 2008 08:56 PM |
I agree, I was going to write the same thing. It's a nice tradeoff.
Edgy MD Nov 22 2008 09:57 PM |
No complaints then.
TheOldMole Nov 23 2008 09:07 PM |
I don't understand any of this. I thought all the topics were assigned. I don't know what a sixth number means.
themetfairy Nov 23 2008 09:55 PM |
We're going back to the Old School format this year. You'll be assigned a list of players. You write a parody about one of the players for your first round. If you win, your next parody can either be about one of your unused players or your vanquished opponent's unused players.
Fman99 Nov 24 2008 04:39 AM |
Sweet.
sharpie Nov 24 2008 08:53 AM |
