Any feeling regarding bumping up against Thanksgiving and people's availability to vote?
|
seawolf17 Nov 24 2008 12:52 PM |
That's why I'm figuring we wait until after the weekend. Gives everyone a chance to work out their songs.
|
themetfairy Nov 24 2008 12:59 PM |
That's fine. By mutual agreement, Greg and I will start our play-in round next Monday.
|
G-Fafif Nov 24 2008 01:00 PM |
The 16-17 bracket has agreed to come aboard a week from today, 12/1, in deference to the holiday.
|
G-Fafif Nov 24 2008 01:01 PM |
As you can see, the Fairy and I are so in sync that we'll probably choose the same song.
|
seawolf17 Nov 24 2008 01:03 PM |
Like soupy and I did last year.
|
themetfairy Nov 24 2008 01:10 PM |
|
Plus we'll trash talk each other all week, as is our usual modus operandi ;)
|
Fman99 Nov 24 2008 02:40 PM |
For the other play-in, I can agree to wait until 12/1 also if Mole is OK with it.

|
Fman99 Nov 30 2008 08:31 PM |

A Boy Named Seo Nov 30 2008 08:42 PM |

|
Edgy MD Nov 30 2008 09:17 PM |
"Beans and Cornbread." Go.
|
seawolf17 Dec 01 2008 05:24 AM |
This took a long time to get going, but now that it's on, I need to get my ass in gear.

It's been villianously undermined by Nomo Hideo.
|
Fman99 Dec 01 2008 10:36 AM |
Just to throw it out there, for those participants posting their entries. It would be helpful to post the artist and song you are parodying, besides just linking it to YouTube, since some people cannot access that particular site at their workplace.
|
themetfairy Dec 01 2008 10:54 AM |
Actually, I'll disagree with that suggestion.
|
Fman99 Dec 02 2008 10:45 AM |

PM is fine. Do I win my play-in by forfeit at this point? Mole is a day late, and possibly a dollar short.
|
Edgy MD Dec 05 2008 01:55 PM |
Next?

sharpie Dec 05 2008 02:11 PM |
If we want to start the regular rounds next week I'm ready if Seo is.

seawolf17 Dec 05 2008 02:18 PM |
Okay, Mole's out. Let's start the first round. I'll update the brackets.

I'm sorry, all. I really meant to do it this year, but 60 term papers arrived on my desk at exactly the same time, and my mind has kinda turned to jelly and I lost track I apologize, and will try to arrange my schedule better next year.
|
holychicken Dec 08 2008 07:08 AM |
Uh, the CPF Parody Classic is serious business. Much more important than "term papers." Get your priorities in order!

Considering our propensity for discussion and archiving, I don't think that Facebook would be a sufficient substitute for this place. I find Facebook to be a good place for lightly keeping in touch with people. But I don't think it would work well for extended discussions.

Define this please. I don't know who said it but I find the concept quietly intoxicating.
|
Rockin' Doc Dec 13 2008 08:25 PM |
You are quoting Metfairy. Maybe she can explain it to you. I'm not really a facebook person.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Dec 13 2008 08:36 PM |
Facebook allows you to communicate with people much more passively than you could in real life: You can hear only as much from them as you allow and say only as much as you want.
|
themetfairy Dec 13 2008 08:41 PM |
Lunchbucket explained the concept well. You can leave someone a quick "touching base" kind of message there, comment on a picture or a link that they post, etc. It has helped me retain contact with some people, but it's generally of the quick hello type of variety.
|
SteveJRogers Dec 13 2008 08:50 PM |
|
There are also a ton of quick hits that look straight out of the Aporos of Nothing thread! And many times they fall under the THAT IS TOO MUCH INFORMATION category. A co-worker of mine is on Facebook and summed it up like this: You know, it's great that you enjoyed those pancakes this morning, but come on, does everyone need to know that?
|
Zvon Dec 13 2008 09:51 PM |

whoops, I missed this. I'll PM you and we'll set this up.

|
metsmarathon Dec 23 2008 10:13 AM |

|
seawolf17 Dec 23 2008 10:50 AM |
Get 'em up. We'll treat the holiday like a weekend -- if we're short on votes, we'll keep it open. We've been getting at least 20 votes for all the other contests, so we'll use that as a benchmark.
|
holychicken Dec 23 2008 11:33 AM |
Tonight it is then.

themetfairy Jan 05 2009 01:11 PM |
Where's the Parodies?
|
G-Fafif Jan 05 2009 03:32 PM |
Assuming the 8-9 bracket has been certified by Seawolf and the Minnesota State Canvassing Board, I'll be ready whenever Marathon wants to head to the starting line.
|
Willets Point Jan 05 2009 09:13 PM |

um, yeah.. i just kinda fret about it for a few weeks, pray that some stroke of inspiration hits me before people get too made at my foot-dragging, try to whip something into shape in a few days, and at the end just get frustrated and mash as many sortof-rhyming words together, and secretly hope that i don't have to do it again until next year. but don't let that stop you from voting for me...

i seem to be getting killed. deservedly so. what i posted was probably the third or fourth song candidate that i came up with for this round... about 15 minutes after i gave up on my prior attempt. the first few lines of that one were beginning to look like a winner, but when you're flying over the middle of the country with nothing but an ipod and only one player on your parody list that you remember a damned thing about (um, like, name, position, and the team he played on both before and after his stint with the mets), its really hard to fill several lyrics-heavy stanzas.

I might not use that phrase, but presumably for the love of the game.

Declare a forfeit and move on with it, I say.

May I propose some rule changes without having my head handed back to me on a pike?

John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 01 2009 08:34 AM |

yes. I'm for whatever solution gets it moving again. Forfeits or replacement players, makes no diff to me.

Yeah, I hope the missing parties are ok but I don't think they have

Thank you. My proposal would be to set a firm deadline, and anyone that doesn't comply gets their head chopped off and set on a pike! Just kidding. I wasn't thinking of solving the current delays, although the range of solutions are fairly obvious. I have an idea for next year's contest, assuming there will a next year's contest. My proposal would affect the core setup and would make some fundamental changes to the contest. My suggestion would be to predetermine the theme player for each matchup. So, for example, if I was charged with making up the brackets, my proposal might be applied as follows: #1 seed vs. #16 seed (Ken Singleton) #8 seed vs #9 seed (Hubie Brooks) #4 seed vs #13 seed (Armando Benitez) #5 seed vs. #12 seed (Jeff Torborg) This method would somewhat (though not entirely) diminish a contestant's ability to complain that his or her assigned themes are less desirable than those of his or her opponent. Also, it would be easier, fairer, and more fun (this fun part is obviously my opinion, and more vulnerable to debate) to vote on a matchup where the two contestants worked with the same subject matter. So there you have it. There it is.

As a participant, I don't like pre-assigned topics. Part of the fun of the exercise is the freedom to choose among your different players.

Changes to the parameters or rules are for next off-season discussion

I figured it would come to this matchup anyway. Post when ready, JCL.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 04 2009 11:55 AM |
OK, now I gotta go find it...
|
d'Kong76 Mar 04 2009 12:53 PM |
JCL: we should ban Vladius for a few months, and start a rumor about him too. That'll show him <<<

Valadius Senior is a Met-auction attending big shot --- not to be mocked.
