I meant a Duck ] Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter, who last spring publicly angled for the Mets' managing job when it began to appear that Willie Randolph might be fired, Friday was named skipper of the Long Island Ducks. Ducks principal owner Frank Boulton announced that Carter, 54, will be introduced at a Monday news conference at the team's Central Islip ballpark, making Carter the fourth manager in the Ducks' nine-year history. He will replace former major-league pitcher Dave LaPoint, who managed the team the past two seasons. The Ducks said LaPoint will remain with the organization. The team's coaching staff will be named later. Carter managed the Orange County (Calif.) Flyers to the championship of the Golden Baseball League this past season. It was the second consecutive year Carter guided a minor-league team to a title, following a Florida State League crown for the Mets' St. Lucie farm team in 2007. Haha, got me too. I also was like "what did that goofball say now?" Thats a nice step up the ladder for Carter. (the ladder that he has been adding extensions to via his piehole)
