On Election Night, when you park yourself in front of the TV to watch the results come in, what channel will you be primarily watching?

I won't be near a TV until late on election night, so I'll listen to the local NPR station for election coverage. I'll do some channel flipping once I get home, but I personally expect a victor to be decided by that time.

MSNBC - Keith Olbermann

Comedy Central.

I'll probably watch MSNBC.

I haven't watched Presidential Election night in eight years! In 2004 I was on a prison ship on Election Night sailing from Naples to Palermo.

They are. Colbert and Stewart will have a live show at 10:00 Tuesday night.

Was that like a Robert Redford thing in case Bush got re-elected?

CNN, MSNBC, the big 3 networks, I'll probably be all of those places. Comedy Central for part of the time if its over by then. Parked in front of the tv with the missus and the lad. Same thing I've done since 1972.

We'll prolly watch Channel 13.

FoxNews, because I think they're least likely to call the thing for Obama prematurely and I'd like to prolong the bad news as long as possible.

I tend to be a flipper.

Obviously the road to the ultimate outcome is interesting but I can overdose pretty quickly on the insta-analysis stuff and with so many outlets competing for fractions of market share none of them are shy about flooding the screen with guess-work passed off as knowledge.
So I'll hunt and peck for some pearls of wisdom in amongst the layers of blather.

If I were able to work the PIP feature on the TV I would watch two different channels.

Anyone here can help me on the PIP?

I have the HDMI cable and then I have the DVD player hooked up , what do I need to hook up to get the PIP working.

I have those yellow/red/blue wires that came with the TV.

I'm usually working. Last couple elections they's assigned me to the GOP gathering in the big downtown hotel here in Grand Rapids. It's kind of fun, as there are televisions throughout the room, most of the local candidates are there and they post the tallies from the local contests. Lots of cheering, balloons, funny clothes.

"I'll get the results in the morning" although I have a pretty good idea right now that the presidential election will go to McCain/Palin. I really only care about the state senate election and ballot initiatives that won't be on tv anyhow.

Nymr83
Oct 31 2008 07:22 PM

you're just kidding, you really think McCain will win? I'm one of his few supporters on this board and I think 10% would be an overly generous estimate of his chances.

and you'd be suprised, with all the airtime they have to fill you WILL be hearing about the lower down the ticket elections and any interesting ballot measures (like any gay marriage stuff)

what state are you in and which ballot initiatives are you interested in?

metsguyinmichigan

I think it's a toss-up. Zogby now as McCain up by one.

A Boy Named Seo

Zogby poll's kinda wonky according to Nate Silver. That said, popular vote-wise it's still close enough, but the EV projections line up nicely for Obama right now. McCain's gotta pull some fancy shit out of his arse to win.

I'm nervous as hell just the same, but I believe that.

Nationwide polling isn't meaningful, because the popular vote doesn't determine the presidency. If McCain was tied or up in at least 4 of the following: PA, VA, CO, OH, FL -- we could call the race a toss-up.

Benjamin Grimm
Nov 01 2008 05:26 AM

Yeah, Zogby has been out of synch with the rest of the polls. Some of McCain's supports choose to have faith in that one and ignore the rest, but as Gwreck said, the state-by-state polls show that Obama's chances are much more than 50-50.

The one thing that worries me (as an Obama supporters) is that he now has Aaron Heilman and Pedro Feliciano making campaign appearances.

If that's true, I find each more credible than Joe the Plumber.

Joe the Plumber doesn't have to have any credibility at all. The big deal about that exchange wasn't the plumber, it was Obama's "spread the wealth" response." If Obama had stuck to typical rope line banter, he wouldn't have ignited the issue.

That said, I think the Secret Service carries photos of Heilman and Feliciano to make sure they don't get anywhere close!

Yes, you are correct. Joe the plumber doesn't have any credibility at all. Which is why it amazes me that McCain has clung to him so hard. Allowing Joe to speak at campaign stops is plainly idiotic. There is only one person who would be worse for McCain to bring out and that would be W.

metsguyinmichigan wrote:

I wasn't talking about the exchange...although if I was, Heilman and Feliciano would have more to say about "spreading the wealth" than Joe. I thought Obama's response to Joe's original question was honest, thoughtful and detailed, especially since Obama was the only one involved in that conversation that was saying anything close to the truth.

metsguyinmichigan wrote:

Let's be honest...Obama didn't ignite the issue. Joe did by asking a hypothetical question posing as the genuine article, then McCain jumped all over it in a desperate attempt to secure his fractured base.

I think that exchange still helped Obama more than McCain.

Is that a joke? I was pretty sure that all baseball players (with the exception of Jim Bouton, and look how unpopular he is in MLB circles) were card-carrying members of the GOP.

It's a joke. My point is that Heilman and Feliciano would be the kind of guys who would help Obama blow his big lead.

ESPN did a story about professional athletes and the front offices of various clubs, and who they're giving money for. Derrek Lee of the Cubs was the big Obama supporter that they found.
