New cell phone help!

OK, Poolers. I need your help.

It's time to upgrade my cell phone. More and more sources are sending texts, which I don't like, but must accept as something that isn't going away. My 4-year-old phone doesn't have a keyboard.

So I'm looking at upgrades in Verizon, and they have just an insane selection.

But it boils down to Blackberry or regular phone with keyboard.

The Blackberry costs an additional $30 a month, which is a lot. I'm worried that I won't use the Internet features enough to justify the extra expense, or, that it will go the other way, and I'll be one of those Crackberry addicts that is constantly fiddling with their phone, which I find annoying as hell.

Any of you guys in a similar situation? What did you choose?

Thanks!

Do you use and/or does your phone have T9 text entering?

I text a lot and I can assure you that you don't need a keyboard for texting and that the T9 functionality works just great. It takes a little getting used to, but once you get it you can fly.

I raised a similar question here a month ago or so. I haven't moved on anything yet but at the moment I'm leaning toward the new google phone thru t-mobile. I can be talked out of that tho.

I got to see that phone last week through a guy I know from work , he's in that biz and said it was ok , nothing special but lots of memory and great for viewing real time TV. but this guy works for Apple so of course he loves their phone.

The Google phone was kind of lumpy and has that slide out key board.

MGIM , I wouldn't waste your money on a Blackberry unless it's something you can fully utilize , would you be using all the features that offers?

Love my Blackberry Pearl. If IPhone was on a Verizon format, I'd gobble that thing up.

See, that's a good question, becuase I've survived without one so far, but might use them once I have them.

I could probably do as much with the text feature of the regular phone as long as it has a better keyboard. We're just starting to do more and more.

But do I need to have constant access to my e-mail and web browser? Probably not.

It's all moving so quickly that I fear locking into something now and getting stuck for two years. But that could happen with anything.

The extra $30 a month is a lot.

That's exactly my issue. I thought that maybe whacking my landline phone would cover it but that's a kinda compromise too. I think foregoing child care though might also do the trick.

I switched to Verizon last year and got what is now called the Alias (at the time it was the schU-740. I guess that didn't roll off of people's tongues....). I LOVE it. It has a QWERTY keyboard, so I can e-mail rather than text. It has GPS. It does have a web browser - not a great one, but it's good enough for the road. And it is so small that it fits into my pocket easily.

I don't know if it's what you're necessarily looking for, but it fits my needs.

Alias was one of the phones they showed me in the store!

Ordered a Blackberry Bold today to upgrade from Pearl. My third Blackberry,
I had one of those brown ones with the first color screens for a long time.

I was messing around with someone's at work today and just had to have it,
I'm a gadget whore, it better come Monday or else.
