Don Wakamatsu and the Breeding Ground of Oakland

Oakland has now bred managers for two division rivals --- with both Seattle's Don Wakamatsu and Texas' Ron Washington coming off of Oakland's coaching staff. They will also now have eight bench coaches in eight years, with four of them becoming managers, including Terry Francona and Ken Macha.

Wakamatsu is a 4th generation American of Japanese descent whose father was born in one of the internment camps his grandparents were assigned to during WWII.

Wakamatsu was a college teammate of Barry Bonds.

His name is very similar to the Japanese verb wakarimasu, which means to know or to understand.
