Is that a gun in your pocket or are you ... ?

Apparently in the case of Plaxico Buress he was happy to see someone which caused the gun in his pocket to go off and wound himself in the leg.
Treated overnight in the hospital and released. Wasn't going to play Sunday anyway (hamstring) but this pretty much sealed the deal.

Details on causes/severity still sketchy.

I never thought of him as a straight shooter.

When they get around to handing out jail time, (Yes boys and girls, he DID commit a felony) they should reserve some jail space for Antonio Pierce, who helped him try to hide the gun. That makes his accessory (to a felony) after the fact.

This is getting better:
From the NY Daily News website:

Plaxico Burress is expected to be charged with criminal possession of a weapon after shooting himself in the thigh Friday night. The felony chage results in a mandatory 3.5 year prison sentence.

"He went for his gun and fumbled it. And now it will cost him," a police source told the NY Daily News. Details continue to emerge, such as Antonio Pierce berating Plaxico for bringing the gun to a club. Pierce also stashed the gun for Burress and didn't call 911 at Plaxico's request, so he could face charges as well. Cops only learned about the incident after the Giants quietly reached out to them to report it. Nov. 30 - 8:05 am et

Isn't stashing a weapon used in a crime almost as bad (if not worse) than
possesion? The two bozos sound like they're cooked.

Benjamin Brafman the attorney for Burress had this to say.

] We are in contact with the New York City police department and the New York City District Attorney's office, making arrangements for Mr. Burress to address these legal issues as early as tomorrow [Monday]. He will responsibly address these issues in short order. Yes, he's addressing this in a serious, professional manner. He's an adult. He recognizes that there are legal issues that he's going to have to deal with and we intend to do this as responsibly and expeditiously as possible. "Not going to go into any detail at all. We're not going to comment on any detail at all. We're going to make arrangements for him to appear when required and address as the responsible professional that he is. "I've spoken to the police. I intend to speak to New York County District Attorney's office later today and we will make arrangements for Mr. Burress to be present when required. He's not running away from this. He intends to deal with this responsibly and we hope it works out in the end and I would ask that the public, the Giants, the media and everybody else withhold judgment. He's presumed innocent, hasn't been convicted of anything and we have a long road ahead of us. "He's OK, he's physically OK and thank god it was not a serious injury. I'm not going to go beyond that.

Oh now Plax is going to act like an adult and be responsible , great.

Was talking to a guy today who said he had a friend at the precinct that was handling the incident.

According to this guy, his friend the cop said that after Pierce dropped Burress off at the hospital (Pierce did not stay, simply left Plax there and took off), Pierce then delivered the gun directly to the Giants security staff and came clean about the whole incident.

Also - apparently RB Derrick Ward was also with Burress and Pierce.

NYTimes says this morning that it was Bradshaw not Ward that was with Burress & Pierce at da club.

Right position, wrong guy.

Plaxico Burress showed up for his free agent negotiations wearing an MFY cap. Clearly that was the biggest crime of all.
