This is on MetsBlog:

The Mets have traded Scott Schoeneweis to the D’Backs for RHP Conor Robertson.

The 27–year-old Robertson was 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in nine games with Arizona this past season.

Robertson is 29-13 with a 2.82 ERA in 217 career-minor league games, during which he struck out 382 batters in 305 innings.

Who's paying Schoeneweis' salary?

Good.

I'd like to see Sanchez and Feliciano go too, after all the duds they put up last year. But that seems increasingly unlikely. Especially Feliciano who is the last lefty standing out there.

Brother is MFY David Robertson.

Had some pretty impressive K numbers in the minors, but doesn't really throw all that hard.

]The athletic right-hander throws his fastball in the high-80s, low-90s and he gets late downward movement on the pitch. Despite not having plus-velocity, Robertson gets a lot of swings and misses on his fastball because of the movement. He has an excellent slider that he throws in the mid-80s and gets a lot of swings and misses on. Robertson indicated that he has also been working on improving his change-up and adding a cut-fastball this season.

Still struck out about a dude per inning at the higher levels, but they did seem to figure him out the more than the youngin's did.

Younger and cheaper, but not as left handedy as Schoenweiss.

This looks like a) addition by subtraction and b) a salary dump. Oh yeah, maybe Connor will pan out, too. He has some good minor league numbers and a high K ratio.

Tyler Yates' stunt-double.

I wish him the best , I think the whole "addition by subtraction " thing should be reserved for assholes and not seemingly good guys like Heilman and Schoeneweis.

Good point. He wasn't the greatest but he gave a darn.

Mets will pay $1.6 million of the $3.6 owed him.

I can't imagine the Mets won't go right back out there and get a different experienced lefty.

That would be a first. They could share a flat and never see each other.

You can't say I didn't give him graphic support.

According to BP circa 2008, he gets by on a deceptive delivery.

i would be suprised. they have Feliciano and the guys were redundant, so unless they're going to get a Dennis Cook type who can get everyone out it wouldnt make sense, and i don't see a player like that out there

Nobody can get everybody out.

Cook faced a disproportionate number of lefties and pitched less than an inning per appearance in every season with the Mets.

I'm sure there are plenty of lefties out there who are more effective against lefties than righties, but more useful against righties than the Show was.

I don't know what lefties are available right now. Other than Feliciano, I don't know if the Mets have any lefties even at the AAA level right now. No non-tenders popped up that I saw.

Ricardo Rincon?

Joe Beimel and Will Ohman are still on the market, either of whom would be a decent LOOGY option. Alan Embree and Brian Shouse are also available, but I'm not sure getting older is the right course of action.

I believe Embree inked with the Rockies already.

Rincon, IIRC, committed some transgression in the final weeks last year that assured he wouldn't return.

It's this belief in paucity that makes people sign Schoeneweis for three years. Among fringies, reclamation projects (Oscar Villarreal?), foreigners you've never heard of, and failed middling prospects re-asserting themselves out of the pen and available for a minor league contract, the right person is out there.

People are just now getting non-tendered. Guys like Mike Stanton and Steve Kline are out there --- and no, I'm not arguing for either of them.

San Francisco went $8 million over two years for Jeremy Affeldt. He's as good as anybody out there, his splits are indifferent, and he's as capable of throwing more than one inning. If he costs only $8 million over two years, the Mets will be fine.

If they're smart.
