We lose a Notre Dame grad yesterday and a Duke grad today. The element just got a little less sophisticated. After two years, even in the trade announcing his dealing, we weren't able to spell his poor name correctly.

Never forgiven for struggling in 2007. Was definitely better last year. First No. 60 in team history. One guy I'll think about when debate comes to "bullpens are too specialized" and/or "play to your strengths" and/or "should we give this veteran relief pitcher a 3-year deal?"

Not sure he would have been as vilified if Feliciano hadn't ended up with a similarly ridiculous platoon split, from the same side. He might have been used properly, and thus more valuable, if he wasn't redundant. Good luck, Show.

I admired him as a Cancer survivor who conquered the beast. I wish him luck in his new environs.

Seems to me he pitched just fine in August and September of '07 as well -- he just earned a bad rap (deservedly) that he was completely unable to shake (undeservedly).

Final game ever at Shea Stadium, got the 'L'. "GAS CAN SCHOENEWEIS!" screamed the helpful man sitting behind me as he departed the mound and then for seemingly hours thereafter. Watched him in the same week get lit up by the Brewers and Cubs in May '07, probably the week he established his unshakeable reputation. In the latter game, Aramis Ramirez flew him to the moon and let him pitch among the stars. Like a lot of Met relievers, just undependable enough to not ever fully trust if ultimately not nearly as bad as their reps would have it. In retrospect, the [url=http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=280712121:15id22ix]one-hitter[/url:15id22ix] on which Pedro and four relievers (Muniz, Heilman, Schoeneweis and Wagner) combined in July looks like one of the most Amazin' of all Met pitching efforts.

Was very likely the most frequently misspelled name in Schaefer voting. (We do also get a lot of votes for "Degado" and "Felicano.")

Had a better second season than his first as a Met , felt terrible for the guy towards the end with his new born child very sickly in the hospital and the abuse raining down on him like a heavy thunder type rain.Show was a very sharp dresser , some say the sharpest on the club.

Really just your average big-league reliever. I have no idea if this replacement guy is going to be any better or not. Probably not. The problem with Schoweneweis, in addition to trying to spell his name and the truly rotten first 1/2 year he had, were as much the club's as his: 1 - being signed to a 3-year deal. Never understood the thinking that led to that after they seemingly moved away from the trend by letting Bradford go. 2 - thinking he would be effective against both RHBs & LHBs when there was little track record to suggest that was likely to happen

This is how unfair the life of a relief pitcher is. I can't come up with one positive memory of Schoeneweis (though I realize many should be there). Always seemed to take it like a man after bad outings.
