Memories of Molina and Nixon

Do we have anything? Thirteen appearances and no PotGs between them.

Nixon was a crook. He did appear on Laugh-In, though.

Wait, what?

Nixon was going to provide some veteran leadership or something. Molina I had forgotten about.

Is Molina gone? I missed that.

The Nats announced his minor league contract and invite yesterday in a five man press release that included two Gustavos.

Corey Patterson
Jorge Sosa
Gustavo Chacin
Jose Castillo
Gustavo Molina

Gotta be some kind of record.

When I heard the Mets had obtained a catcher named Molina, I had to listen carefully to WFAN to find out which one.
Then I heard ......

Nats appear to be revving up their motors for ... well, sumthingorother, I not quite sure what.

They were in on the Teixeira stuff and are supposedly in on Manny.
They've already worked out a pretty big deal w/the Marlins for some NOW players, and here seem to be picking up a bunch of once-promising guys (Patterson, Sosa, Chacin) hoping to catch some lightning in a bottle.

As for Molina/Nixon memories ... ummmmm, I don't have any.

Both wore No. 6 last year!

A number more than any other that indicates you're riding on greasy skids.

I'd be happy if Jorge Sosa made the Nats.

Jorge saved the Mets season (for a few days anyway) with a pitching performance against the Nats in September 2007.

Bottom of the 6th, Nationals Batting, Behind 3-5, Mike Pelfrey facing 7-8-9

7) R Fick: Walk
8) J Flores: Single to CF (Line Drive); Fick to 3B/Adv on E8

Jorge Sosa replaces Lastings Milledge pitching and batting 8th; Shawn Green replaces Mike Pelfrey playing RF batting 9th;

D'Angelo Jimenez pinch hits for Jonathan Albaladejo batting 9th

9) D Jimenez: Strikeout Looking
1) N Logan: Ground Ball Double Play: SS-1B (SS-2B)

0 runs, 1 hit, 1 error, 1 LOB. Mets 5, Nationals 3.
Manny Acta knows what he can do.

That's why I wished him well. He had a number of nice games for us, probably would have been better had he not been overused.

One of those guys who came in with low, if any, expectations and performed better than we thought for a little while.

If I never hear the name Molina again, it won't be enough....

I will never not think of what my FAFIF partner Jason wrote as regards Gustavo Molina and who he wasn't related to:

]I was surprised -- and, oddly, a little disappointed -- to find Gustavo isn't, in fact, part of the seemingly inescapable Molina catching clan. Perhaps "molina" means "receiver" in some Spanish dialect, much the way someone named Cooper can bet he had an ancestor who made barrels. Or perhaps it will mean that one day.

As for Trot Nixon, in the final game in Milwaukee in early September, Gary Cohen mentioned the long line of seven-hitters the Mets had used in the course of the year, a dozen or more. Keith Hernandez went about naming them, no mean task. Eventually, he worked his way to Trot Nixon. Gary calmly responded, "Yes, Nixon's the one," which cracked me up this (or any) election year.

It's fair to say I remember almost nothing about their respective on-field accomplishments.

I have a faint memory of Nixon not looking very good playing the field.

Trot's best game for the Mets was his first one on June 15th vs. the Rangers at Shea.[/url:klsxc0ou]

2 for 3 with a 2B, R, 2 BB and 1 SB

We still lost the game. He never really did anything after that.

Anybody have a Claudio Vargas memory?

I have a slight memory of him pitching a good game one time , or at the least a decent five innings.

The Mets could do better with two Ambiorixes.
