The time has come

My son and his girlfriend have found an apartment in town and will be moving out of our house and into their place over their break from college. They'll take their kitties along too. Empty next syndrome x 10. Two kids, 8 cats. I guess I've weathered a lot of pain the past year and a half and I'll get through this too, but right now it feels like a hole has been ripped in my chest.

Just echoing fairy -- hang in there. I know how tough it is. But the next phase of life, when it comes, is the best phase of all: grandparenthood.

I was young and pretty when I first became a grandfather. And Loretta Lynn was a grandmother at 29.

awwwww. The thing is, unless your kids really put it off forever, you always think you're too young -- and then when you see that baby, you realize you never wanted to be anything else. I know Cooby has a while yet -- but it is something to look forward to, and something to take a little of the sting out of that empty nest. Doesn't help with losing the kittens, tho.

Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement. I hope to be a grandma (Grammy is my favorite moniker) sometime in the next few years, but neither my daughter or my son have immediate plans to marry. :( Metfairy, what a nice thing to say, that I am young and pretty...wow! Gavvie is still here and she deserves a lot of attention, I'll try to give it to her and there will be kitties in our futures, I'm sure. A brother and a sister, prolly.

I can see their reasoning.
