I back up matsui
I'm feilding at 2b
I'd love you to love me
I'm more than just 'n ex-yankee

I back up matsui
I'm feilding at 2b
I'd love you to love me
Wearin' orange and blues, my name's upon my shirt
I put in all my hard work, but you say that i'm a yankee

Didnt i, didnt i, didnt I hold up my end?
Oh, didnt i, didnt i, didnt I play fine?
Playin on a team, hated by its fans, you know it feels unkind.
Oh, didnt i, didnt i, didnt I 'ppear i'm tryin?

TEACH BOBBY

Do you remember back in Y2K? (Oh-Oh-Oh)
Approx-i-mate-ly ev-e-ry fifth day (oh-oh-no)
How Bobby Jones would make us hide our eyes,
Elicit groans and often prompt our sighs?

Remember how they had to send him down? (woe-oh-oh)
Not much hope he'd turn his year around (no-oh-oh)
He was giving up earned runs galore,
'Til he received the Norfolk Miracle Cure!

Beat Bobby, Beat Bobby
Give up the lead
Al-ways indecisively nibbling
The league knew his stuff, we had seen him enough
To pass judgment

Teach Bobby, Teach Bobby
Get him to heed
The les-sons of Nine-teen Ninety-Seven
When he was good, and we knew that he could
Throw a curve...

Wow! His miseries eventually'd end (woo-hoo, woo-hoo)
Zow! Quite the unforeseeable trend (new-ooh, new-ooh)

Dee-cent starts...
Showed some heart...
Wi-ld Card...
And now it's on to Game Four!

[Instrumental and Choral Break]

This new Bobby Jones, him we'd watch with glee (ah-ah-ah)
Acknowledging his Fresno ped-i-gree (oh-oh-oh)
Surrendered nothin', 'cept a two-base hit,
A couple of walks — man, that was it!

Sweet! Bobby, Sweet! Bobby
Sweet! Bobby J
Shea roared when you dwarfed Barry's Giants
You were The Man, dom-i-nat-ing San Fran
For the clincher

See Bobby, See Bobby
See Bobby ... hey!
Using guile and guts and the strike zone
There on the mound, not messing around
Anymore...

Given that it's been some 66 hours since both parodies were posted (and 48 is the prescribed time limit), I am taking the Vietnam-era advice of former senator George Aiken: Declare victory and get out. On behalf of Bobby J. Jones and First Class, thank you to marathon for the spirited battle and thank you for your votes.

Onto the next round...

I still don't know the player 'Thon is writing about, muchless the song upon which the parody is based.

i want you to want me - cheap trick

miguel cairo.

i like being obtuse in my parodying...

the cover, by letter to cleo, is what i was listening to when i made my song. which, i think, only helps my opponent.
