I never would have guessed Sanchez would be due a raise that large.

The fact that arbitration - or even just the threat of it - relies heavily on service time means that one more season under a player's belt almost automatically triggers a sizable jump in pay.

]FLUSHING, NEW YORK (TICKER) —The New York Mets on Tuesday signed outfielders Ryan Church and Angel Pagan to one-year contracts, avoiding an arbitration hearing with the two players who are coming off injury-plagued seasons. Church, 30, who signed a $2.8 million contract, was limited to 90 games last season - his first in New York - due to a concussion suffered during a collision at second base in a game at Atlanta on May 20. For most of the rest of the season, Church experienced migraine headaches and dizziness associated with the concussion, the second of his career. He finished the year with a .276 average, 12 home runs and 49 RBI. Pagan, who is still recovering from surgery to repair his torn left labrum, signed for $575,000. The 27-year-old outfielder hit .275 with no homers and 13 RBI in 31 games with the Mets prior to injuring his shoulder on May 7 at Los Angeles. In other moves Tuesday, the Mets signed lefthanders Tom Martin and Casey Fossum and catcher Omir Santos to minor league contracts. All three were invited to spring training next month.

D'ya think that is THE Tom Martin?
If so, that guy's gotta' be older than Mole and me put together.

Maybe its time for my comeback.

Omar, I'll sign to be cannon fodder in the bullpen for only $2 million for 1 year. My agent, Scott Boras told me there's another (secret) team interested in a 2 year, $5 million deal.

Yes, it's the Tom Martin who was here in 2001. He'll be 39 in May.

Church signs a one-year deal for $2.8 million.

Pagan signs a split contract which will pay $575,000 while he's in the big leagues.

I keep forgetting about Pagan.

The remaining two arbi cases have been filed and neither seems like it'll be a gap too big to bridge via negotiation.

* Maine is asking for $3 million. The Mets offered $2.2 million.

* Feliciano filed for $1.95 million. The Mets offered $1.35 million.

Heilman settled for $1,625,000, so I think the price on Sanchez looks a lot like the going rate.
