American Idol Season 8

Enjoyed it a lot last night , I do like the early shows with all the terrible auditions , even though the only reason they are there is because they are so terrible.

Some Highlights and lowlights.

Bikini Girl got the new judge all riled up to the point that Kara DioGuardi called bikini girl a bitch , Simon and Randy of course loved her.

This lad thought he was Michael Jackson....hilariously bad

My favorite of the night was the tattooed rocker chick that sang "Barracuda" , thought she was brilliant.

Surely the biggest faux pas of the night must go to Seacrest for trying to high five the blind kid , when the kid didn't respond(didn't see him of course) Seacrest grabbed his hand and lifted it up to high-five..

Even though FOX were tugging at the heart strings I really didn't think that kid was all that good.

Total agreeance on Barracuda chick. She was great. I also liked the blond girl near the end, I forget what she sang but was the one with no family there. And I liked the girl named after Stevie Nicks.

Very surprised that Bikini girl was not terrible. Not great, but not as bad as one would expect.

Missed it last night (did catch the end of Ken Burns' "Baseball") but will prolly get sucked in eventually. I hate the audition shows for the most part.

I like the new judge , for the want of a better term she could be a female Simon.

I like the auditions shows but they do drag.

Couldn't sleep last night (no doubt obssessing over my song parody entry) and was lying in bed flippin' channels at 1am. Wife had dvr'd A.I. so I watched it (that's my story anyway...)

Barracuda chick was cool. Bikini girl is a dumb slut.

The thing I find interesting about the people that try out is they think that they are good. Who tells them this? Must be the people waiting outside for them that are stunned when their friends don't get the 'Golden Ticket'.

I don't know what to make of this season so far , too many people are getting into the next rounds on personality as much as their singing.

Some standouts for me so far are Adam(guy with died black hair) and Danny the guy that lost his missus .

Here is a leaked link of the 36 that gets through next week out of the 75 left.

The class I teach is supposed to run from 6 p.m. until 8:40. But so many of the kids are hooked on AI that I have to try to get things wrapped up early. They're willing to pass on the mid-class break if it gets them out earlier.

I've never watched this show, and I know it's popular, but didn't realize the kids were this hooked on it!

nothing quite like the spectacle of borderline talents going bughouse, as they desperately grasp at the tail of their dreams running away from them.

But of course, i also advocate for public executions on pay-per-view (as long as we are going to kill our citizenry anyway).

They suck. All of them.

The guy with the dead wife can be good, but even he sucked yesterday.

You could tell that the crazy Puerto Rican girl was embarrassed about how she came off during the episodes that have already aired.

That was pretty awful last night all around, although Dead Wife Guy is my favorite this season.

My three to get in tonight are...

Danny....thought Paula and Cara were going to take their nickers off and throw them at him last night.....he wasn't that good.

Tatiana , yes she's annoying but they spent fully five minutes talking to her after she sang, that's got to help her.

Little blond girl who sang I think third.

metirish
Feb 19 2009 07:14 AM

At the end I was hoping Tatiana would get through over the prick Danny , not for nothing but he came of as a dick last night.

Anyway it's shaping up top be a rubbish show.

Centerfield
Feb 26 2009 08:13 AM

I think last night pretty much proves I have no idea what constitutes "good music" anymore. If I ever did.

Except for a few performances, everyone pretty much sucked again. Two hours. Thank god you can fast forward DVR recorded shows.

I really didn't get the girl in the white dress they were raving about. The song sucked. She's not as hot as everyone says she is. And she does this weird thing with her arms when she sings. I have no idea what that is. It looks like something Mr. Miyagi would make you do to teach you karate.

I didn't like the guy who sang the Stones song either. Granted he's got an amazing voice, but the guy is such a tool I don't see how anyone can vote for him. I felt like I was watching Rolling Stones, the Musical.

I did like the chick who sang Alone. A little tough on the high parts, but really cool voice.

My favorite was the redhead who sang Bette Davis Eyes. In fact, I think I might be in love.

metirish
Feb 26 2009 08:17 AM

Agree with just about all of what you said...the show pretty much blows though...Paula is a wreck ...I thought the guy that sang Coldplay was at the least OK ....overall though the song choices are terrible....agree with the last guy too...

Seriously though WTF is Norman Gentle doing there?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Feb 26 2009 08:37 AM

He's a novelty act, though novelty acts sell records too, and I'm not sure he wasn't one of the three best last nite.

But you hafta figure the way they sucked off Drama Club Jagger that he's gonna advance; and I'd guess the next two best-looking ones go after that (the scruffy hawaiian guy and the tattoo sleeve skank who can't dance). That'd be my prediction.

Centerfield
Feb 26 2009 08:55 AM

Am I the only one that liked that redhead who sang Kim Carnes?

John Cougar Lunchbucket

No, I think she was alright, and didn't quite understand why the judges wanted to bury her.

Not bad , I liked the chick that sang Heart....but what do I know , it so obvious who the judges want to bury and go thorough , their two favorite guys sang last the first two shows....

seawolf17
Feb 26 2009 09:19 AM

The chick who sang Heart was outstanding. Really incredible. Rolling Stones: The Musical guy was over-the-top dreck.

The Coldplay guy was "at least okay"?!?! Awful, awful, awful. My ears started bleeding. Dreadful show last night except for the redheaded 16-year-old, who can effing wail. She should find her way through.

Norman Gentle makes me laugh. I hope he has enough votes to make it through, because he makes a mockery of the whole show.

My votes: Allison Iraheta (Heart) & Kris Allen (Man In The Mirror), with Mishavonna Henson or Norman as the wild card.

Prediction: Rolling Stones/My Chemical Romance wannabe guy, Heart girl, and then it'll come down to Norman and Megan Corkrey (blondie), with Megan sneaking through.

I have been told by a couple of Idol nuts that the final spot is referred to on the interwebs as the "pimp" spot, where the producers/judges place their favorites so they can be showered with praise, no matter how average their performance (see Danny last week and Adam last night).

I liked the Heart girl plus the red head, even if she did sing "Betty Daisy Eyes" in one place. Megan is ok too, but my wife wanted her eliminated just because of her outfit. And, hey, did anybody catch Megan's mom in the audience? Grandmilf in the house!

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Mar 04 2009 10:57 AM

I forget they had a blind guy too. What are they gonna do when he goes up against the Dead Wife guy?

Blind Guy wasn't really any good last nite, but he'll probably advance along with Lil Rounds and, I guess either, the dark-haired chick who was in the middle or the fella who sang that fucking awful Delilah song (but sung it well). I would like to kill the homo bastard who wrote that song.

I would also like to kill the homo bastard Nathaniel but he'd probably get off on the attention.

The patronization of that poor ugly Puerto Rican homo bastard was just shameful.

metirish
Mar 04 2009 11:23 AM

Last night was the best of the three rounds of twelve , the judges could not be more patronizing if they tried...Paula probably doesn't mean it but she's a wreck , I thought she was going to say to Scott that even though he's blind he can sing...giving kudos to the Puerto Rican guy for taking diction lessons was just wrong......don't fucking go there looking for talent then.....I think he has a chance of going through , mostly the judges were positive with him and the tears from him can only help. Lil Rounds is a cert to go through and I liked Ju'not , replacement chick was HOT , has a chance....Nate should be shot and that's that.....wild card show is tomorrow?

I don't think he's a great singer by any stretch but I can see Blind Guy becoming a huge star, and he wouldn't have to win Idol to do it.

I believe 2 are to take the fall for last night's Michael Jackson butchering.

I'd send home Kris (boring guy with the guitar) and the Fat Oil Rig Guy (even more boring), but I'm pretty sure America will keep Kris around and send home Jasmine or maybe even Lil.

Anoop = sucked.

Blind Guy = eh.

Adam Lambert = Better than 'Satisfaction' but still not nearly at the level Paula's moistness would indicate. Totally over the top by the end. His David Cassidy looks are going to take him to the final 3 anyway.

Megan = BILTFH

I haven't watched much this year, happened to catch a few minutes last night.

Is Adam the guy who sang Black Or White? I could see that guy singing in an early 90's metal tribute band but that's about it. The judges couldn't get enough of him.

Megan - the blonde with the tattoos on her arm? I agree with your acronym, I think.

Mar 11 2009 09:19 AM

I'd be shocked if Lil got sent packing , is kris the one with the blonde wife? , I think he'll say....Anoop was the worst....funny that anyone who tried singing Jackson in the auditions or in Hollywood got chastised for having the nerve to even try him

Paula is a nut job , up dancing all night , at times it looks like Cowell is trying to calm her down.

Oh I agree about Megan...she's quirky hot...

Centerfield
Mar 11 2009 09:44 AM

My problem with the show is that so many of them are annoying.

Roughneck, Anoop, Dead Wife Guy, Blind Guy, married guy where he and his wife have matching aprons, and Can't Speak English guy are really really dorky. Out of the bunch only Dead Wife guy is likeable. Can't Speak English guy creeps me out a lot. Now I know how chicks feel when ugly guys leer at them.

Lil is annoying and so is Megan.

I'm rooting for Dead Wife Danny and Redhead Allison.

The judges' "save" will only be used on one of these four: dead wife guy, Adam (who looks like a cross between a gay Greg Brady and Joanne Worley), Lil, and Scott. Those are the four who they reserve their slobbering praise for.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Mar 18 2009 10:18 AM

You noticed that too?

It's almost funny how clearly she seems to understand that her one and only route to fame is behind those fleshy love balloons. At this rate she'll come out for the finals and instead of singing just shake.

I don't think anyone was very strong last nite. I'd like to stab Eyeliner Adam for that bullshit he pulled with Ring of Fire, but you know he will survive.

I'm picking borning Kris to go again this week.

seawolf17

I also noticed that all of a sudden she's not "Megan Corkrey" any more, she's "Megan Joy."

I'd yell at her to stop jiggling her boobs on purpose, but I kinda like it. The tattoo is distracting as hell, though.

That Adam guy needs to GO. That "Ring of Fire" was dreadful. I loved Randy Travis's reaction to him, though. Gave me a good laugh.

Not sure why this was on when I walked in the door tonight, but that Megan Joy chick was singing and I wanted to jump through the TV and make out with her. Some Bob Marley song that they trashed her for, but I thought for this show, she had a pretty unique and sorta quirky voice.

Then I changed the channel. Go Megan!

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Mar 31 2009 10:49 PM

Get in the bang Megan Joy line. And yes I thought she was better than the judges said this week even if she;'s not any good.

But jeez, they're so in the bag for Lambert, not to mention the "save" they have in their pockets that we may as well vote the next 4 out next week and just get to the finals already.

Apr 01 2009 06:41 AM

You'd have no shot at Megan, my arse would be in the way.....I find it hilarious that the judges chide the contestants for giving a performance that" looks like you are pretending to be someone else" and for not being "original" , all the while they are up there singing other peoples songs.

Megan is one singer that is different with her quirky voice yet they clearly do not want her there and every time a judge starts of by telling her that they like her it's clear that they don't.

I liked her take on the Marley song.

No more Megan .....really Anoop needs to go....Cowell got in his nasty parting shot at Megan.....how many pairs of glasses does the douche Danny have....really don't like him now. I expect him one day to blurt out after he sings " hey don't forget that my wife died"....

I'm glad Megan's gone. I don't remember the last time a hot chick bugged me that much. I thought her singing sucked. She danced funny. And last night's over-zealous smiling and waving put it way over the top. I couldn't wait for her to get kicked off.

I think I was bound to dislike her since I feel like the judges picked her over the Bette Davis Eyes redhead that I really liked. Whatever. Goodbye Megan and her huge boobs.

May 21 2009 07:49 AM

Anyone still watching this?

I have to admit I really enjoyed last night's finale. I can't believe some no-name can go on a reality show then end up singing as the front-man for Queen and Kiss on the same night. Amazing.

At times my wife and I sat there wondering if it was suddenly 1985 again.

I thought all along that it would be Gokey or Kris Allen. Both are the type that the people who vote would like. Adam, I thought, was just too weird to win over the younger fans.

I'm just glad it wasn't Gokey. I've never soured on a contestant like I did with him. I liked him in the beginning, but as time went by, his act got old. I mean, he can sing, but he just looks like a tool out there.

On the other hand, no one has ever grown on me through the course of the show like Adam. I hated him in the beginning, but the guy can flat out sing. And he may be a flaming weird drama queen, but he's a likeable one.

For reasons I can't quite understand, I've always like Cyndi Lauper. I wonder how Captain Lou is doing these days.

Couldn't agree with you more . My wife and I watched every week. We hated Gokey......he was just very annoying. Kris to his credit got better as the weeks went by and I got to think that Gokey's fans voted for him after he got the boot.

I liked Adam a lot but maybe a whole section of people out there just wouldn't vote for him. Pictures have been surfacing for weeks of him kissing men and yyybbb....Kris on the other hand is safe I suppose....still I liked them both the Adam seemed genuinely happy for him.

Kiss and especially the Queen segment rocked.

Bikini Girl with the huge new boobs....thought Seacrest handled that great...Kara stripping to her bikini was a WOW moment.....

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 21 2009 08:24 AM

Exactly. It's not as if the winner and runner-up hadn't had the exact same amount of National Branding over the last 3 months

I was rooting for Glambert by the end only because I suspect he coulda been really subversive and destroyed the whole thing by revealing at the end it was all an act, or maybe by turning up in some beastiality videos or something. Plus when he wasn't destroying songs he was capable of singing them well.

It's obvious Brian May should kick out Paul Rodgers and go make a few billion on a summer tour with this kid.

Kris put me to sleep from the beginning. And had very little soul for a guy who sung as many soul songs as he did. The best thing he ever did was apologize for winning.

On a more general note the show has probably jumped the shark. The 4th judge added nothing but irritation, and the addition of the judge "save" was a joke. Why can't they just dial 1-800-IDOLS-01 like the rest of America?

There was an article on MLB.com asking ballplayers what song they;d sing on AI. I'm trying to still be pissed at the guy who said this but I sorta agree.
]"I think it would be Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.' I like that song and it's a song that I know every word to. That's just a song that when it comes up on the radio, it's a song that I will always sing along with."

Isn't the winner of this whole shebang contractually obligated to record and promote the "winner's song" bit?

Considering that's 6 months-to-a-year out of the guy's life (and suddenly-hot career), and that the runners-up (Clay Aiken, et al) get as much of a press bump just from being here, isn't winning the thing a lot more of a white-elephant prize than it's made out to be?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 21 2009 10:30 AM

Absolutely. I think I read once that the Top 10 have to participate in these awful summer tours, and that was one reason one of the promising singers bailed on it a few years ago.

I think Cowell and Simon Fuller own the top ten and that they sign papers to record any possible record with them.

Frayed Knot
May 21 2009 11:27 AM

I remember reading an article a couple years back which was giving advice to winners and would-be winners of AI

Step 1: GET OUT OF THE CONTRACT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE

IOW, the deal the winner essentially agreed to simply by participating and winning was very pro-show owners and not so much pro-artist. Nothing too shocking there as many new-artist deals screw the artist over. The difference here is that this "new" artist already has a sizable dose of fame he/she can parlay into some big bucks but are restricted from doing so on account of what they're locked into for the near (or maybe not so near) future.
